Couldn't Finish It

I love a Shark movie. Even a fairly bad one is worth checking out. Sometimes it's just a matter of low budget. I've seen a lot of terrible Shark movies, but this one is the worst. I even saw Toxic Shark about a Shark tbst shoots Toxic Waste.

But thus has good awful acting and some pretty terrible CGI. It's more so the acting though. All the actors are terrible. Take me right out of the movie. It feels super fake. Very standard "we're irresponsible young adults on vacation". I really hated this. Skipped around to just the Shark parts and it was still awful. Don't watch this. Even if you like sharks, it's a waste of time.

Poor Nicky Whelan and Shane West

Having to do this terrible movie, ok well it wasn't bad it could have been good if it was more realistic and better quality. This shark would have to be the worst I've ever seen ever worse than Jaws and that movie is like 40 years old. There was a scene the captains die, and she's like you need to get it, it doesn't even show him reacting and then the scene cuts and he's gone so dumb it is so slow for like the first hour then they all start dying but it happens so quickly like before they even get a chance to realise a shark is hunting. One of the guys washes up on the shore but he's got no injury appears in tact but dead, did he drown. Like I said I feel sorry for a good cast having to do this movie. WOW.

Trace Adkins vs. shark

I've seen enough shark movies to never ever want to be on the open waters. So when a new one comes out, much less one with Trace Adkins and Jeff Fahey, I feel like I am bound by law to watch it.

After getting dumped before the wedding. Jessie (Nicky Whelan) takes her friends Will (Shane West), Sunny (Porscha Coleman) and Brianna (Kelly Lynn Reiter) on the honeymoon she's already paid for. So where does Trace Adkins come in? Well, he's Harlan, a man no one will listen to, as he tries convincing the law and Professor Hoffman (Fahey) that a great white killed his daughter. So he does what you or I would do: he grabs a shotgun and takes off in his boat to shoot a shark in the face.

Spoiler warning: he does it.

Director and writer Justin Lee also made Big Legend, Final Kill, Hellblazer and his next movie will be The Most Dangerous Game, which has Casper Van Dien as Baron Von Wolf and man, that's enough for me. I'll watch it just for that.

As for Maneater, it has a CGI shark but some decent practical gore. And you know, Trace Adkins grim faced and unloading a bunch of shells into a big fish and while he sang "You're Gonna Miss This" he doesn't. I mean, it's an astounding scene and I was sure there'd be another shark or it would rise back up but nope. That shark stands no chance at all.

I mean, you can still watch it.

Maybe you should watch it, just for that.

Yessirree y'all, the redneck saves the day, gawdammit!

The acting and script in this much-hyped film is absolutely atrocious. Why Jeff Fahey signed up for it beats me, maybe he has money troubles.

We're led to believe that these people are stranded on this island, with no hope of rescue, but every time there's a wider camera shot there's loads of boats around!

The CGI shark is amazing, able to change it size and shape at will.

The island paradise this film is set in is supposedly off Hawaii, but could well be Bognor, as it's as grey, windy and dark as a British summer.

Our hero, Harlan, struggles to speak discernable English, and is to acting as freezing water is to an erection.

Sadly, yet another film in the 'why did they bother' category.

Sack the sound editor!

Was this a movie, or a cinematic music video?

The music was TOO LOUD! I couldn't hear a word the actors were saying, because all I could hear was some Mariah Carey wannabe, belting out vocals loud enough to wake the dead!

Even when there was no singing, the music in the background was unbelievably loud, drowning out everything.

For obvious reasons, turning the volume up made it worse. I couldn't get passed the 10-minute mark for this exact reason. I don't feel too bad though, as the film looked gash anyway...and after reading reviews on here, it's clear I dodged a bullet!

In summary: THE. MUSIC. WAS. TOO. LOUD.

Would give a ZERO if possible!

Movie was garbage! How did the main girl just watch her best friend try to help Shane west and the other friend by pulling the rope but not help pull the rope with her??? Dumb story and dumb acting and thought! I love a good B movie with no story line and a cheesy plot, but this is the biggest waste of time ever, and I've seen cloverfield. Hell, even paranormal activity wasn't as bad as this and I hate those movies. Please don't waste your time. I wish I was warned about this garbage before I watched it................................I repeat, please don't waste your time with this garbage. I feel sorry for whoever watched this bush league of a movie. At first, I thought it was ok bc 4 people died within 30 min, but even for me, it was wayyyyyyy too stupid.

The end of Shane West's career

I mean, what happened? This guy was Michael in Nikita, had a bunch of starring films and now all he does are awful DTV CGI films! He needs to start taking roles that are more risky. This has to be the ugliest shark in the history of cinema. The guy still looks great, has talent, but seems to be in it for the cash. He's the male Eliza Dushku at this point.

Hopefully better movies are on the way. It's been dud after dud and he could do better.

The location was the best part of the whole film.

The CGI shark is atrocious and there are entire CGI sequences like the floating dead body in the water that made this feel like it was an episode of LEXX.

Just so bad. SO bad.

As a woman in my forties like the lead actress was in this movie ... WHY would you portray her as a recent med school grad who is repeatedly called 'kid' by the main actor? She's not a kid. That's demeaning as heck. She is not a kid. I feel like the character was meant to be in her mid twenties but they cast someone who looks every year of their age and it was impossible to suspend belief that she was a jilted ingenue on what should have been her honeymoon with characters (her pals) who seemed MUCH younger. She took me out of every single scene. Especially the 'kid' nonsense.

Next, she's a med school grad but she doesn't even TRY to do any CPR at all when her friend washes up on shore after being hit by a shark tail. He's not bloody. Why wouldn't she do CPR? Then another friend comes with no leg and instead of using his belt as a tourniquet ... she leaves him to bleed out while she runs to get a first aid kit that she doesn't use at all ... and THEN uses his belt as a tourniquet. What. On. Earth!? Why did she go get that kit when his belt was RIGHT THERE!?

The only thing worse than the special effects was the acting. Just horrible. Right up there with The Requin as worst shark movie ever. Just. HORRIBLE.

I feel like a 1 is very generous...

Hahaha this was awful. I'm usually fairly generous with my ratings and reviews, but there's nothing good to say about this. Awful script. Average acting. The CGI and special effects are hilarious. May as well have been a high school film project.

Watch for a laugh!

Spoilers: Can we talk about how useless she was for a pre-med student. She didn't attempt CPR at all on Ty. She didn't assist with the retrieval of the other guy. Then when he washed up alive but bleeding out, she just casually strolled over, had a chat with him, wondered off for a medical kit. If she was my doctor I'd probably just make peace with the fact I'm about to die.

Lifetime caliber

Don't waste your. Time unless. You're a fan of lifetime and hallmark movies.

Acting is horrible.

The music behind the scenes and the music montages will turn your stomach.

It starts off bad, then gets worse.

Poorly written, badly acted and amateurishly directed , I can't believe I wasted $8 on PPV.

I have to write 600. Characters. And. There's. Nothing. More. To. Say.

Just drags on with music and boring writing. You'll be rooting for the shark. ................... Then there's the fake laughing, fake friends, fake shark, fake anger....... ..............................................................................................."......................................................................................................

This was a fun, clean shark movie!

I don't know what everyone is so mad about. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this film. The locations were beautiful; the camera work was clean and smooth; and the shark looked pretty good. It's nowhere near as bad as the reviews say.

As for the acting, Shane West was definitely the strongest actor here. But that doesn't mean the others were bad. They were all good, and I loved the dynamic of the friend group. I think people may be mad because it isn't full of nudity or sex scenes. But I found that to be quite refreshing. The characters looked (and acted) like real people. I was entertained, which is the whole point of a movie, and I will watch it again.

Massive Great White

I'm giving this a 6 because I was entertained throughout it. Now the shark didn't look the best, but I loved how massive and fierce the shark was. Plus the location of the movie was absolutely gorgeous.

The sharks attacks were brutal and very gory, which was pretty cool. The shark in this was actually killing for sport.

The plot was decent enough, a young woman's (Nicky Whelan) 5 friends surprise her on a trip to cheer her up. They meet a captain and his wife who take them out to a island paradise for snorkeling and camping, unaware that a eogue great white has staked its claim to the warm waters and is attacking people. After the captain and his wife vanish, the friends suffer an attack and must find away off of the island without being eaten. A local grieving father may be their only help as he hunts the shark down that killed his daughter in the beginning of the movie.

Overall, it was not a bad shark movie to end the summer with.

Waste of time

WOW ... he shot at the shark 31 times with a shotgun without reloading! ... Incredible!

The blonde star is at med school ... but she finds her friend on the beach, inconscient, and don't even try to check for his vitals or revive him ... the other one is bleeding out ... doesn't do anything for like 5 minutes before deciding to FINALLY make a tourniquet !

Perfect example or not doing home works before filming!

I wonder why I keep on watching those lame b-movies that all tries to be the next JAWS but are all unsuccessful to the task.

CGI is so bad ... don't try to find any logic to this movie, you'll bleed your brain out!

First off the concept isn't even original, almost the entire plot was stolen from Jaws with a little influence from Deep Blue Sea. The acting was horrible, the lines were horrible. It felt like Jaws on a $50 budget.

It was misleading and what the hell was the point of having and actress who was a doctor who didn't know basic first aid.

If I could give this a negative rating I would. I wasted an hour and a half on my life on this movie.

To be honest this movie doesn't deserve a 600 character review. I don't believe the director or producer had the audacity to the setup the end of this movie for a sequel.

The writers need to be fired and it's clearly obviously they didn't have the budget for a CG shark, I've seen better card board sharks in Baywatch.

Somewhat generic shark movie, but watchable enough...

Well, truth be told, I must admit that I was lured into watching the 2022 movie "Maneater" on three accounts. The first being that this was a shark movie; I do like shark movies, despite most of them being dubious. Secondly, the movie's cover looked interesting. And thirdly, this was a movie that I hadn't already seen.

Granted, I wasn't really harboring much of any high hopes for this shark movie from writer and director Justin Lee, as the majority of the shark movies out there tend to have overly dramatic and cool-looking covers, but the contents of the movie itself is rubbish. But I opted to give "Maneater" the benefit of the doubt.

Sure "Maneater" was watchable, but it was a rather generic shark movie, for better or worse. I mean, it could have been a worse movie experience, as many of the shark movies out there tend to be, but luckily writer and director Justin Lee managed to put together something that was enjoyable enough for what it turned out to be. Sure, you're not in a for a new "Jaws" movie here, but it was a fair enough attempt at a shark movie.

The acting performances in the movie were adequate, but of course for a movie such as "Maneater", then you know you're not in for award-winning movie performances. I was only familiar with Trace Adkins and Jeff Fahey in this movie.

Visually then "Maneater" was okay. Some of the shark scenes were quite good, while others had some rather questionable CGI animation going on. But all in all, the effects in "Maneater" were fair enough to carry the movie.

If you enjoy shark movies, then "Maneater" could be worth your time. I enjoyed it adequately enough.

My rating of "Maneater" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Makes Sharknado look like an Oscar winner!

This has to be one of the worst movies ever made.

The acting is really bad, the sound is all over the place, the CGI shark looks like it was generated on an iPhone and the story seems to have been written by a teenage Jaws fan.

The final shark scene appears to be a rip off from Deep Blue Sea done really badly.

I'm not a gun expert but that redneck's shotgun seems to have an infinite amount of shells loaded for a pump action.

The final scene is so cringeworthy I actual felt bad for the actor, not sure if he forgot his lines or was meant look like a rabbit in the headlights.

Basically this the sort of shark movie Homer Simpson would make.

Poorly written, cast, shot, directed...I could not find one single thing positive to say about the movie. Seriously how these godddddawful movies keep getting produced is beyond my comprehension. It wasn't thrilling, scary or remotely entertaining...yet I watched it because I love shark movies. This, however was so dumb and pointless. I wouldn't even go as far as to say it was mediocre. The film editing was bad. Honestly I was surprised to see Shane West in a film like this. The fact that they have a country music artist as a main character really says everything. Complete garbaaaage! I'm glad I didn't pay money for this.

What in the hell is this? They didn't do any research on anything. There's no way in hell a shark that big would even be that close to the beach. That water is way to shallow. Jaws was better than this for graphics too. I do not recommend. Acting was below par, cgi was bad, build up was lack luster. Super easy to predict. There's not much to save this movie at all. If you wanna watch a crappy movie about unrealistic shark attacks, then you're in for a treat. I don't mind bad movies but there was nothing of substance here. Hollywood... why? Open a book, research the shark. You can do way better than this.

Incompetent

I really have to stop watching movies like this. You get the occasional gems like VelociPastor and Zombeavers. But the vast majority are just awful. That is the case with Maneater.

The movie opens with a shot of someone swimming in the waters. Then all of a sudden, we cut to a close up of a shark eating someone. I was so confused, why did they just randomly switch scenes in the middle of the opening. Then I realized it was the same scene and the same swimmer. It was just done so incompetently that I couldn't tell.

Later in the movie, they have a shot of the shark, then repeat the exact same shot two seconds later. I couldn't believe it. Then again 20 seconds later!!! I almost didn't notice the last one because they mirrored (reversed) the image.

Those are just my favorite examples. Everything about this movie is terrible. No point in listing them out. (1 viewing, 11/19/2022)

Wow what was this?? College project? So so bad acting and the cgi ?? Omg if my Nanna would be blind she would do better effects..

Also this is so boring. Fell a sleep while watching.

Even the music is horrible.. Stupid decisions all over again and boom shark

I dont even care who dies or not. There is nothing you would get attach to.

Terrible. Terrible movie.. have to say couple times more terrible because character limitation so i can send this review lol.

Why they made this and did someone really got paid doing this?

So still too short so horrible, horrible, avoid it, don't waste your time like I did.

THE WORST!

This day and age with advanced CGI, you would think the next "shark" movie would be something to watch and put you on the edge of your seat...but instead, we got bad actors, horrible storyline and a shark I could have made better with paper Mache!

These producers need to get their head out of their rear-ends and gather up some real writers, actors who can actually ACT and hire an outside source to produce "shock & awe" CGI for the shark moments. The storyline was so broken up, I was like WTF is this?! These guys need to get it together and put quality first - you want to release a budget film, you're gonna get budget film ratings!

Absolutely Amazing

I know that this movie has horrible special effects, a really dumb script, and no value to our world, but damnit, it was awesome!! I was half drunk on whiskey when I ran across this movie on Amazon. Although it looked stupid and a waste of time, I gave it a shot. My wife even questioned my ability to think when I purchased it, but I wasn't going to be deterred. So basically, dumb people go out, make stupid choices, and die violently to a shark that is around 40 feet long and has a really bad case of chapped lips. I'm glad proud of my selection and was very excited they set up the sequel. I loved it!!

Entertaining one time viewing. A unique shark movie.

Though this movie won't be a ballad like Peter Benchley's Jaws, it's an entertaining survival film. I was well entertained and my eyes never wandered away from the screen.

The movie follows a group of individuals on holiday, each with their own problems but willing to forget them on this trip. They are unaware the location they are going to has been invaded by a rogue great white shark who has developed a taste for hunting humans.

I enjoyed this film far more than Beast 2022, which was a big let down for me. The acting is decent and more like the standard for a decent TV series these days. The photography is beautiful though, except for some instances of C. G. I. I think there is no mechanical shark like Jaws in this one, the special effects are all computerized.

Verdict: decent and enjoyable time-pass film.

absolutely terrible

I cannot express how stupid this movie is. First off how it is so unrealistic. Most shark movies are unrealistic but this one was just stupid.

The shark literally attacked someone within a 2 second walk to shore. It would've been shallow, yet a shark that big was able to come so close to shore and kill those people. The editing was horrible, the acting was terrible and probably one of the worst shark movies I've ever seen- especially for 2022.

It was obviously a low budget movie but honestly it could've been better. The storyline was not well planned out. I get the idea of the movie but the fact this huge rogue shark comes into water literally knee deep. The actors weren't good, and how stupid they were is just irritating and hard to watch. I know it's acting, but their ignorance and stupidness makes it a hard movie to watch.

Definitely don't recommend watching, music was loud, actors were stupid, editing was terrible, storyline is bad and it's genuinely just a hard watch. Don't waste your time.

Not bad enough to be good

If this movie were someone's high school final project, they would get an F. The script is ridiculous. If it were written with the intent of being so bad it's good, they failed. It's just bad. They made a point out of one of the characters being a medical student but anyone that has watched a medical show on tv has better medical training than this girl demonstrates. It is one of the worst movies ever made. I am solely writing more about how bad this movie is because I have to have enough characters for this review to be published. The CGI is some of the worst I've ever seen, the dialogue is beyond bad and the story is pitiful. Only watch this if you want to feel better about some really bad decisions you've made in your life because producing this pile of dung into a movie is going to comparatively be a worse decision for certain.
