Not my style but enjoy watching
carissanovick12 March 2022
I'm not really sure why there are so many bad reviews. I think people just like to be negative of other people's lives. I really enjoy the show and the design process in the rooms. It's definitely not my "style", but to each their own. She always shares some very budget friendly tips to use in your own home, but they usually have at least one design element from an expert craftsman that they visit with on the show.

Pretty show
wickedforgood-0871714 January 2022
I love the quiet moments in the show when you can hear the birds outside or soft music playing. It has such a nice feel for this kind of show. Beautiful filming as well. The creativity and content in this seem unique in a world full of home makeover shows. I really enjoyed every show I watched. I really loved the field trips taken to visit the craftsmen in their shops. If you are into home improvement shows, I highly recommend this one.

A diffrent take on renovation
mattern-scott7820 March 2022
People a bashing this, I have to say the show is more of a family story and less of the project steps. They are converting an old school house into a home. The style isn't to my liking but it's not my home, it's theirs. I love the ways they are involving everyone and everything and making it old but new. They are not Chip and Joanna and I'm glad, I don't want cookie cutter shows like Foxer upper, I like the new spin on renovation they do.

Strange aesthetic
meekob-3363622 October 2021
The process of how some things are created on this show was interesting. But their taste is strange. Note the unexcited expression on the brother in law's face when he sees their finished dining room. They hang old pictures of dead people looking into the camera all over the house and in bathrooms and bedrooms. Bizarre. The dated design going back in time didn't always work. Looked cheap. I also think the husband on this show appears essentially useless. The wife does all the creating and decision making. She definitely makes all the decisions. They show him fiddling with a drawer. He just sheepishly follows along agreeing with her and keeping her happy and in control. He seemed painfully out of his element. They have a strange dynamic. The school they convert into a home is massive. Seems a bit over the top that they need even a fraction of all that space. Then they stick all their sons in one room and barely separate the bedrooms with real walls or doors. And they get one bathroom to share. So the older boys and younger boys are all packed in one space. Yet the house is massive enough for them to all have a bedroom. Just an odd show on a few different levels.

I like it.
sgbessette3 April 2022
Not necessarily my taste in decor but not my house and I like to watch. Once in a while a little too much drama with the tears but it's reality TV and nice show. I like the tips Candis gives. I am remodeling a house and am going to try some of them. I cannot afford a designer so it's just me giving it a go. I look forward to the next season.

charming frauds
lampejill20 January 2022
Well before the dirt came out on this couple, I saw something was off. Candis thru a tantrum over someone cutting original wood trim, yet, she bastardizes everything else in the schoolhouse. Fireplaces are fake. Lights are made from cheap parts. Curtains are made from tablecloths and sheets. A fountain is made from an ugly old cattle trough. They tile over tile, fabric covered walls have ripples and tucks that should not be there, they hang a cheap blanket as if it's a fancy tapestry....it goes on and on. While quick camera shots and careful editting prevents the average person from catching the flaws and issues, to a trained designer or contractor's eye the quality of design and work is evident - it's bad. And on top of it, Andy just seems weird. His weak attempt at being "the cool dad" with the forced dad jokes, just makes him look even more like the poser he is. Neither have a college degree or background in the industry, yet they portray themselves as experts. They're not. Realize as you watch this show they are frauds who bite off way more than they can chew.

Charming and Artful
maritawallace17 August 2022
I've watched Home Work, season 1, twice and still find new views and tips for decorating "maximally". LOL. This such a charming and artful series. Coming from a large family myself, I appreciate how Candis and Andy involve their children in making their new home.

Annoying & Horrible Taste
dromernick17 March 2022
I feel like I'm watching 2 fakes.

She is not a decorator. Horrible work. He is not a carpenter.

How do they afford all those kids, a school building & then to turn it into a home? Construction costs & supplies are expensive.

Something doesn't add up.

Fun, Eclectic Designs w just a touch of Scandimo
rosemaryhelms28 January 2023
Candis adds a very eclectic twist when combining historic and modern design. She is heartfelt and genuine and her love for her grandmother and grandfather comes from a deep connection and her family values shine through and add human level to her family remodels.

I have a similar style and have been remodeling for 30 years like this and while it's obvious at times they are sticking to budget - you'd have to in a home that large! Always wanted to save a schoolhouse and have been talked out of it!

Victorian, Edwardian and antiques aren't for everybody but the quality of the furniture is unmatched in todays MDF, flat box, throw away society.

Keep being you Candice - can't wait for a 2nd season. I hope Andy doesn't loose his endearing, supportive, family-loving, sidekick personality.

Rough
rjconley-7856721 March 2022
For me the most annoying aspect of this show is the washed out 24 FPS "cinema" aesthetic. I want my home renovation shows shot in clear crisp 4K. I kept hoping it would get better but it didn't. I lasted about 1 1/8 episodes. It's a very strange show. I'd like to interview the kids off camera and find out what's really going on. 😁

Ugh, YUCK
Lostsocalgal6 March 2022
Sorry. Not sorry. The Victorian guest suite looks like an 'antique' shop threw up all the leftovers from when they lost their lease. The paint color is HORRIBLE. I grew up in a BEAUTIFUL Victorian home, my friends lived in Victorian homes. My Grandmother had a GORGEOUS Victorian home.

None, absolutely NONE looked anything like this.

I thought in my super grown up ten year old mind that my piano teacher, Mrs. Zink had a LOT of stuff. Nope, she was actually a MINIMALIST, compared to these over achievers.

LESS IS MORE in Victorian homes. Tastefully appointed Victorian homes that is. Which is what I am accustomed to.

PTL.

Now, the BLACK kitchen. Cheap SHORT cabinets, AND/OR cheap cabinets placed TOOOOO high. IF you are considering using SHORT cabinets, DON'T. Especially with high ceilings. And, absolutely do NOT make them accessible only to people who are seven feet tall. TOOOO much white tile with ZERO interest.

What Are Their Jobs?
jadecat-8959010 February 2022
I'm curious how these people can afford to raise 7 children, pay for such a massive property of their own to renovate, and claim to foot substantial portions of the bills for the projects they took on (with minimal experience and no formal training) for clients, plus lavish travel for design inspiration. Andy doesn't appear involved in much, so I guess it's possible he has a highly lucrative job that can support 9 people? It is easy to hang out a sign and call yourself a designer, especially if you have funds for projects and can post the beautiful after shots on social media, but there's so much more that goes into it, particularly if you're working for others. It would have been better for Candis to stick to her own home projects and curating her Instagram and skip opening this whole can of worms for the public to see. Some of the projects in their house are okay, others only highlight scores Candis found but don't mention the rest of the cost for expensive things, aren't durable for daily life and don't even seem to consider who lives there.

The worst
enuskey1 March 2022
Neither one of them knows what they are doing.

I so hope that people don't watch this and think that this is the way your work should be done in their own homes. I've been a contractor for over 30 years and have a little idea about what I am talking about..

Hair issue?
denise-8815213 February 2022
Candis....pull your dang hair back. It dangles in front of your face....very impractical for remodeling....well, unless you really don't do the remodeling.

....and don't be so bossy. Doesn't have to be your way or the highway!!!

WTH?
jmariani-5979912 June 2022
These two created some of the ugliest rooms I've ever seen. If I moved into that house, I'd have to completely renovate it. They have horrible ideas and horrible taste. Sorry. They seem like nice people but the result of this renovation job was just awful.

Not Interesting
kristidiana13 March 2022
I did not find this renovation series enjoyable to watch. A majority of programming on the new Magnolia Network is entertaining and interesting. I also find the constantly repeated promotional commercial for it incredibly annoying. Enough already; we know your grandfather built you a playhouse with his bare hands.
