Taking this successful collaboration forward, Mehra will create multiple series for Netflix over the next few years.
Mehta’s film credits include “Shahid” which bowed at Toronto and won him best director at India’s National Film Awards; “Aligarh” (2015) that debuted at Busan and won at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards; and “Faraaz” (2022) that premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. His series “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story” (2020) was a smash hit for streamer SonyLIV.

‘Faraaz’ Characters: Faraaz Hossain And Nibras Islam, Explained: What Happened In Dhaka, Bangladesh?
“Faraaz” is a 2023 film that revolves around the horrific terrorist attack that took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2016. Five terrorists were involved in the attack, and they killed many civilians in the Holey Artisan Bakery. The terrorists inside the bakery were highly educated, and they were all Bangladeshi nationals. “Faraaz” provided a glimpse of how these terrorists were manipulated to commit violence. When the terrorists began to attack everyone inside the bakery, they called out to the Bangladeshi Muslims.
The terrorists spared all the Bangladeshi Muslims and killed everyone who belonged to other countries. They believed killing all these innocent souls would help them claim their place in heaven. Moreover, they constantly ridiculed the girls who wore western dresses and blamed them for disregarding the beliefs of Islam too. The local police failed to gain control over the bakery, and many officers were killed. So, they had no choice but...

One of the most horrific terror strikes in history took place on July 1, 2016, in a diplomatic area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Five extremists attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery and took hostages inside. The horrifying incident rattled the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and even the Prime Minister. Many foreigners and non-Islamic people were murdered and injured, while only Bangladeshi Muslims were spared, yet they lived a nightmare that we would all like to forget. Hansal Mehta’s “Faraaz” describes that harrowing night, based on the actual occurrence that transpired at the Dhaka café Holey Artisan.
In addition to depicting the true incident, “Faraaz” also emphasizes that terrorism cannot be attributed to a particular religion but rather to the philosophy that supports it. Islam is seen as a violent religion in the wider world, but the Quran, like other holy books, preached peace. But, there are those extremist Islamists out there who only comprehend...

The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Film Hangar and Saraswati Entertainment in association with Jio Studios.

Reliance Entertainment has been active in the distribution space recently, releasing Steven Spielberg’s Oscar contender “The Fabelmans” in India, which it also coproduced, and striking a deal for the international distribution of “Faraaz,” “Bheed” and “Afwaah” with T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks.
Dasgupta said: “I feel happy, blessed and honored to collaborate with Sir [Bachchan] again. Looking forward to it.”

Faraaz
Directed by Hansal Mehta
Compared with Hansal Mehta’s other two films on global terrorism, Shahid and Omerta, Faraaz is a mellower more lenient and forgiving work. It is predominantly a discourse on true Islam and its subversion by terrorists as embodied in the two main characters Faraaz(Zahan kapoor) and Nibras(Aditya Rawal).
The dialogues between the two are sharp and relevant. Most importantly these dialogues never overstay their welcome, hence the film, though largely confined to a café held hostage by a bunch of misguided youngsters, never gets verbose. Instead Hansal Mehta brings in a sense of reined-in anxiety.
The agony of those outside the sealed café, whether the government officials or parents of the hostages(Juhi Babbar Soni, Amir Ali are both superb , though the former has a far more dramatic scope than the latter) is given as much priority as the terrorized hostages inside the café.
