- First day of term at Trinity. Theo arrives and doesn't like what he sees - when the college laugh at him at the initiation lunch he decides to leave. Dorian chooses his fools for the year.
- A drama set at Trinty College, part of Bridgford University, with many evident Oxbridge similarities. It has been the playground for the rich and power for centuries, yet in a forced effort to modernise, its gates are thrown open to the commoners. We are introduced to the college by its new inhabitors, the 'normal' people.
We meet Theo Mackenzie (Reggie Yates, Radio One), the bright kid from Lewisham who is clearly put off by the weirdness of Trinity, nicely portayed by two 'Dandelion-type' boys arguing about chess as he walks through the grounds with his parents. Maddy Talbot (Elen Rhys), the dippy welsh kid who, we discover, has a hopeless crush on Theo. Charlotte Arc (Antonia Bernath, St Trinians), who is first seen sat sadly on the steps of Trinity. Her life having recently been turned upside down by her father's mysterious death.
Dr. Edmund Maltravers (Charles Dance) has been Dean for 20 years, though second in command he usually gets his own way. Dr. Angela Donne is the new Warden (Claire Skinner, Outnumbered) of Trinity, having spent her youth there she is keen to shake Trinity up and introduce it to the modern world . Gabriel Lloyd (Michael Higgs) is old friends with the Warden, having been firm friends with her and Richard Arc (Nicholas Sidi) whilst at Trinity as a student.
The Dandelion Club rules the college as the minions of Maltravers. They are led by it's president, Dorian Gaudain (Christian Cooke) who uses trickery with a coating of his 'charm' to get women into bed, including taking advantage of Charlotte's grief. Ross Bonham (David Oakes), a brilliant Rower, is a loose wire and ends up attacking a student, he evidently suffers violent mood swings. His lover, Jonty Millington (Tom Hughes), seems to be the calming agent. The Dandelions have their equivalent in female form, the one mentionable being Rosalind Gaudain (Isabella Calthrope) who we discover is Dorian's cousin, with very little inhabitions. She is an ice queen beauty, yet with the added benefit of a brain. She soon attracts the interest of Theo.
Angus (Mark Wood) and Raj (Arnab Chanda) are comic relief, and play the 'fools' at the feast. They are chosen as the fools of the Dandelions, or mainly victims of Dorian, and end up humiliated.
