In Smallville, Martha calls Clark, Lois, and Johnny to supper. Johnny asks if Uncle Conner will be joining them.
On the comms, Barbara tells Tigress that Orphan is working on her chains but needs time, and Tigress should stall. Tigress asks Cassandra Savage if all her confessions were acts, wand Cassandra says that the facts were all true but she's thankful that Vandal saved her from a mundane life, and elevated her to a destiny of greatness at his side. Jade says that it was all about bringing her daughter Orphan back, and Tigress points out that infiltrating the League's data systems has been a long-term goal of the Light.
Cassandra says that all she needed was a distraction to deploy the infiltrators, and Onyx tells Tigress that she didn't know the Shadows were using her as a distraction. Jade says that they gave Onyx every chance to prove they were wrong about her, but Onyx proved herself a failure and fled Santa Prisca, and they allowed her to do so she would warn the heroes. The fight with Black Spider and Rictus at the fault gave Cassandra the chance to use the organic fog to get the database information, then get back to Santa Prisca to transfer the data to the Light. Jade says that she's satisfied she has her daughter back, even if Cassandra failed in her mission.
Cheshire knocks out the lights, and the Shadow snipers switch to night vision and open fire. The three heroines fight in the darkness, with Barbara backing them up with her drone. Jade cuts off Rictus' cybernetic arms and legs, while Onyx takes down Cassandra. Jade Sabs Tigress through the leg with her sword, and the Shadows restore the lights. Jade tells the heroines that surrender is their only option, and Shade opens a portal to teleport the heroines away and follows them. Jade leaps into the portal before it closes, and they appear on the beach.
On the farm, Lois tells Johnny that Conner passed away. Johnny wonders why Conner isn't at his grandparents' house, and Clark explains to his son about death and how it happened to Conner.
Jade faces the four heroines alone, and Shade says that he owed Cheshire a debt and they're now even. He tenders his resignation to the Shadows and teleports away, and Sphere arrives and opens fire on Jade. Jade insists that they leave Orphan behind, and says that her Shadows will hunt down everyone Orphan cares about it if she doesn't stay, starting with Barbara.
Orphan attacks her mother, and Tigress insists that they don't turn kids into killers. Barbara sends her drone and tells Orphan through it to stop, but Orphan continues her attack and stabs Jade through the stomach. Barbara tells Orphan that she's free now and shouldn't finish off Jade, and Orphan remembers Batgirl telling her that she wasn't trying to save Joker but was trying to save Orphan.
Orphan walks away from Jade and goes to Sphere. Jade tells her daughter that she saw in her eyes that she's still an assassin, and she's no orphan but Jade's daughter.
The Past
Tigress lowers her bow and Cheshire, satisfied, slips away. Later, Jade tells Sensei that Tigress let her go and Sportsmaster was right that Artemis is weak. Sensei says that Artemis is family and Jade should recruit her.
Artemis tells her mother that she let Jade go. Paula assures Artemis that she did the right thing, and only family can turn Jade. Jade is afraid to open her heart and be part of a family, and doesn't want to take that risk. Paula admits that Jade got it from her, because when her daughters were little Paula abdicated all responsibility to her husband. It took Paula being crippled to learn her lessons, and tells Artemis to convince Jade.
The Present
The heroines go to a safehouse in Key West, and Artemis calls Will to get his permission to bring Jade home with her. When Jade sees that her daughter Lian has madder a Cheshire mask, Jade runs out and disappears into the night.
At the farm in Smallville, Lois approaches Clark on the porch and he blames himself for not getting to Mars in time to save Conner. Lois points out to her husband that if he had, he would have died with Conner. He says that he suspected Conner ten years ago and wasted so much time, and couldn't see him for who he was. Lois says that Conner knew that Clark loved him like a brother, and he felt the same about Clark. She says that all they can do is love each other, and Clark hopes that she's right.
Tigress, Onyx, and Orphan follow Jade in Sphere, as she heads to Infinite Island in a stolen helicopter. They spot Jade below
The Past
Jade secretly watches Paula in her apartment, then leaves. Paula goes after her sister and tells her that she's following in their father's footsteps. Jade insists that she's nothing like Sportsmaster, and says that the heroes will kick Paula out of their group because they'll never trust Paula unless she tells them the truth and bring Jade in. Jade figures Artemis can't bring herself to do either, then leaves.
The Present
Jade turns the helicopter and flies it at Sphere, hitting it a glancing blow. Sphere crashes in the Caribbean Sea below, just short of Infinity Island, and Jade lands on the island at Sensei's home. Sensei and the Red-Hooded Ninja come out, see Cheshire, and Sensei asks her if she came back to live or die.
Cheshire attacks Sensei, and Tigress arrives and deflects her sister's blows. Sensei says that Cheshire is trying to get herself killed, and knows she has no fight there, but the fight is with herself. Cheshire tells Artemis to go back home, and tells Sensei that she's sending her sister back where she belongs. The two sisters argue about why Cheshire left Will and Lian, and Jade finally admits that she's too much like their father, and doesn't want Lian turning out like her.
Artemis tells Jade that at some point, they both have to decide who they want to be. None of their upbringing has to define them, and DNA doesn't define destiny. Artemis insists that it's never too late to change who they are, but changing takes time and work. She offers Jade her help doing so, but Jade says that she can't be a part of Will and Lian's lives yet.
Onyx, who has been listening, says that she was raised by her maternal grandfather, but she felt trapped and the world was never going to catch up and recognize their worth. Onyx wanted more, and then Sensei found her and promised she could make a difference. She moved to Infinity Island, and the Shadows felt like her new family.
Cheshire agrees, and Sensei says that what they experienced wasn't family but manipulation. He tells them that his role was to create loyalty and fanatics, and he did too well with Shiva. Sensei says that per the Master, they're no longer in the business of turning children into weapons. He tells Onyx and Jade that now they can help both of them, as long as they approach their rehabilitation with open eyes.
When Paula tells Jade that she can't even believe that her sister is considering Sensei's suggestion Ra's al Ghul steps out of the shadows and says that it merits consideration. He gives his words to Artemis that they will strive to help Jade and Onyx, and he's never been known as a liar. Jade tells Artemis that it feels like a step in the right direction, and Artemis reluctantly agrees. Onyx agrees as well, and Ra's tells them that Onyx and Jade are both welcome to stay. Artemis says that she plans on coming back to check on both of them, and Ra's says that he has no objection. Jade and Artemis hug,
