The title of this episode is Latin and means "wrong" or "evil in itself."
Angelo Lano quells Paul Magallanes' concern that Judy Hoback will suffer reprisals from the FBI by stating, "Look...the arc of the moral universe is long...but it bends towards the good guys." This is paraphrased from a quote of Martin Luther King, Jr. who stated, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice," who in turn was citing 19th century Unitarian clergyman, Theodore Parker, who first coined the phrase. King was himself a target of the FBI's covert COINTELPRO spying and harassment operation. Deputy Director of the FBI, Mark Felt (aka "Deep Throat") was later convicted for these "black bag operations" that violated the Constitutional rights of citizens, but was soon after pardoned by President Reagan.
In a meeting with L. Patrick Gray (John Carroll Lynch) and Paul Magallanes (Carlos Valdes), Angelo Lano (Chris Messina) refers to the "web of conspirants" that went all the way up to the White House. The use of "conspirants" in an American TV production is unusual because it is an archaic British English term which was used primarily as an adjective rather that as a noun, as it is here. In fact, submitting this note generated a warning that "conspirants" is not a correct word, and suggests "conspirators" to be used in its place.
