Around here, we love it when people get lost in the woods and the only thing that turns up is their sandals. It's even better when the only thing to survive is their cameras.
Whether they run into a ghost, a witch, a family of cannibals, or even a Kardashian or two, it's always fun to see what survives.
Indie filmmaker Jason Horton took a few minutes to talk with us about his latest movie Monsters In The Woods (review) and what happens when a film crew goes up against more than just a deadline.

You see? This is reason #89 while I will always remain a damned city boy. No matter how you slice it there is stuff happening deep within the woods that I want absolutely no part of! From inbred mutants to well, yes, monsters, you just never know what is gonna smack you in the face (thereby tearing it off and sending it sailing through the air) next.
Such is the case with Jason Horton's latest indie effort Monsters in the Woods starring Glenn Plummer (Speed, Saw 2, The Salton Sea), Lee Perkins (Live Evil, The Red Machine, Katiebird), Kristian Bernard (Ride or Die, Sugar Valentine, Vegas Vampires) and Annemarie Pazmino (Edges of Darkness, On Bloody Sunday, Small Town Saturday Night).
"The plot is semi based in reality." says director Horton. "When I was shopping [his previous film] Trap to distributors, I actually had one say they would take the movie if I would shoot...

As well, Bernard is a producer and upcoming actor who has over a half dozen appearances in film over the last five years. Production will complete on this horror project in August of this year. The latest Zapruter film to be produced is entitled Monsters in the Woods. Director Jason Horton (Trap) has already been by 28Dla earlier to discuss the film and Horton says that Monsters in the Woods will be loosely based on real events: "recently, I was talking to a producer about Trap and he told me he could not sell it unless I added in some monsters," (Horton) so now Horton's next project has creatures terrozing a film crew in the dead of night and deep in the wilderness. The film has only recently finalized a script, so more details are to come. In the meantime, have a look at this early concept poster for the film and have an early look at the film's synopsis here:

Director and writer Jason Horton completed his film studies at the University of New Orleans, while creating his own production company Zapruter Productions. His first feature was entitled Rise of the Undead released in 2005 and he followed up with the apocalyptic feature Edges of Darkness. Both of these films were in the horror genre, but Horton branched out this year to release the dramatic thriller Trap. Now, this director, producer, writer, promoter and most recently distributor takes some time off from this latest production Monsters in the Woods to talk about independent filmmaking and the hurdles of low budget film distribution. Have a listen as Horton talks candidly about being pressured to add creature effects into his latest reality based feature, Trap.

Walter, a middle-aged ex-con fresh out of jail, has been consumed by guilt over leaving his family behind when he went to prison. Out now, he tries to re-establish a relation with his only living relative, his meth-additcted daughter Tori. Tori wants nothing to do with Walter and to get rid of him hooks him up with a kidnapping scheme, headlined by the volatile Franklin. Franklin appears nervous and unstable, but there's more than meets the eye there.
Franklin and Walter take delivery of Tennessee, the 15-year-old kidnappee, and hold her until the ransom is paid. This plan goes to hell when Walter falls in love with Tennessee. Does she love him as well,...

Too many coincidences to count this weekend. The Disappearance of Alice Creed has a very similar sounding premise to that of Jason Horton's Trap, where a young girl is kidnapped, but then turns the captors against themselves. Writer, producer, and actor Neil Green told this reviewer that there are only really twelve stories that can be told i.e. man vs. nature, man vs. man etc. The appearance of Trap and The Disappearance of Alice Creed in the same week makes this statement true. Other details on The Disappearance include an April 30th release date in the United Kingdom with distribution rights already sold for North America (theatrical). Have a look at the synopsis here for The Disappearance and read the review for Horton's Trap below, sound similar?

Director/writer: Jason Horton.
Trap is the latest film from both director Jason Horton (Edges of Darkness) and Zapruter Productions. Currently the film is looking for distribution and in the film Horton shows that he can change tones from action-oriented to drama. Trap is not horror like his previous production, Edges of Darkness, but more dramatic thriller. Also, Horton adds in an interesting, diverse soundtrack that might even involve the director singing!
The film was recently finished and the press release calls Trap "the newest thriller from director Jason Horton" (Trap). Yet, the film is mostly a dramatic feature with thriller elements. The story succintly involves a kidnapping of young vixen, Tennessee (Ashton Blanchard) who has developed a devilish charm at a very early age. One of the kidnappers falls for the captive and here things twist and turn, as characters Franklin (Alonzo F. Jones) and Walt (Allen Perada) have a falling out.

The first featurette from Trap, writer/director Jason Horton's follow-up to Edges of Darkness, just showed up online; and it offers an at times funny behind-the-scenes look at low budget movie-making for your pre-Thanksgiving cravings.
The film stars Alonzo F. Jones along with Alan Perada and Ashton Blanchard. Trap is a thriller that follows a brutal abduction that goes awry when a middle-aged kidnapper falls in love with his 15-year-old victim. Funny stuff, right? In addition, it promises a killer, kickin' soundtrack with songs from Chubby Checker, Cudacade, Peachey Keane, and many more.

Filmmaker Jason Horton dropped us a line with some news on his latest project, Trap, about a brutal kidnapping that goes from bad to worse when a middle-aged kidnapper falls in love with his 15-year-old victim.
Horton is in final negotiations on a foreign distribution deal for the film and said he's closing in on the domestic side as well. He relayed, "Our financier is actually interested in making Trap the middle section of a trilogy. Although the other movies won't exactly be traditional sequels or prequels, but will be new stories featuring minor characters from Trap."
