The series cost about $700,000. In order to reproduce the village where the characters live, a 300 square meter set was built in a shed in Cambuci (central region of São Paulo).
The protagonist Eduardo Estrela was chosen from around 4,000 candidates. After several screenings, only four people remained. A week after choosing the finalists, they called him for an interview. He said that to compose the character, he sought inspiration from Oscarito and Stan Laurel. At the time of the series release, he even stated that he had never seen "El Chavo", but ended up denying it in a recent interview, saying he only lied because of the contract.
Although all audiences and critics think the series is a plagiarism of "Chavo del Ocho", the producers says than the biggest influence was "Sesame Street".
The series was rejected by TV Record shortly after the allegations of plagiarism, in early 2000. Therefore, it was offered free of charge to RedeTV. "I assume that showing 'Miguelito' is an experience. It's a program I don't like, cloned from 'Chavo del 8'. But we are going to show its 22 chapters to see if the audience likes of it", said Rogério Gallo, artistic and programming superintendent at RedeTV. After these statements, producer Gugu Liberato, who died in 2019, archived the series. Of 22 episodes filmed, only 5 were aired just once.
