As the Covid-19 crisis gripped the nation, millions of people went into lockdown and suddenly found a lot of unexpected free time. Some picked up new or long-forgotten hobbies, while others soaked up extra family time. Still others combined the two and began focusing on more involved home-cooked meals. Social media exploded with images, videos and commentary about sourdough starters and banana bread, and that inspired a new wave of unscripted television series.
“We made ‘Crime Scene Kitchen’ about baking only, and that’s not something I think we would have done a year earlier [due to] a fear that people wouldn’t have been as familiar with the different types of baking,” says Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment. “What makes a great reality show is when you can really connect to what the contestants are trying to achieve.”

Sebastian Maniscalco’s Discovery+ food series “Well Done With Sebastian Maniscalco” has been renewed for a second season four days after its first season launched on the Discovery, Inc.-owned platform. The streaming service announced the news Monday during a panel for the show at the Television Critics Association’s virtual press tour.
Per Discovery+, here’s the description for the six-episode second season of “Well Done With Sebastian Maniscalco,” which will debut on Tuesday, Nov. 16: Showcasing Maniscalco’s signature social observations and witty commentary, the returning series, which offers a deep dive into the food world, also will feature appearances from his family and friends. In the new season, Sebastian will revisit his former life as a bartender to create a signature cocktail for Whitney Cummings, dig into the question of why kids are picky eaters with Nick and Vanessa Lachey, discover how noodles are used in cuisines...

Fox released a trailer for “Our Kind of People,” premiering on Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. Et.
Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s critically acclaimed book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” the series takes place in the aspirational Martha’s Vineyard community Oak Bluffs, where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for over 50 years.
Starring Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut, Joe Morton, Nadine Ellis, Lance Gross, Rhyon Nicole Brown, Kyle Bary and Alana Bright, the show follows a strong-willed single mom as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and find success in her revolutionary haircare line.
“Our Kind of People” is executive produced by writer Karin Gist, Lee Daniels, Ben Silverman for Propagate, Claire Brown for The Gist Of It Productions, Marc Velez for Lee Daniels Entertainment, Pam Williams and Montrel McKay. Tasha Smith directed the series premiere.
