Carl and Kristin grumpily assume bodyguard duty for ingrate Defense minister Jens Leander, who openly doubts his competence during the drive to Brussels for the NATO-Swedish security summit. The Kiruna case also comes aunt him, as he spots the sister of the killed Croatian terrorists, with whom he exchanges worrisome views on nuclear (in)security. Carl then confronts the minister in his suite, who admits resorting ruthlessly to any dirty tricks in total secrecy, even for parliament, and scolds Carl naive and as good as fired. Sighting the surviving Croatian triggers a -possibly nuclear, 'dirty'- bomb alert, Carl gives elaborate chase through Brussels while Kirsten evacuates the EU conference building.
