Yesterday, the official Twitter account for Nisioisin’s anime adaptations posted a mysterious “Y” alongside a countdown after previously posting an “O” and “M” in January, which ended up being an announcement for Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season . Now, that countdown has ended and we now know why it was teased! The “Y” stood for Yoasobi , who were announced today to be performing the theme song “Undead” for the series. However, it’s not noted if “Undead” will be the opening or ending theme tune, or if the single will just be for the first arc, Orokamonogatari , or all the arcs. Yoasobi composer Ayase said that they have “always had a fondness for the Monogatari series” and that “whenever I've been asked which is my favorite anime series, I always answer with ‘Bakemonogatari.’” “Undead” will be previewed tomorrow as part of a compilation video for the Monogatari series on Abema.

The psychological mystery novel series Monogatari by Nisio Isin is one of the most peculiar and special titles in the world of anime and manga, as many fans know. With 29 volumes as of the time of writing, the series is still ongoing and it has one of the most complex narrative structures in the world of animanga, but if you dig into the story, it is definitely worth it. The series has received numerous anime adaptations as well, although these adaptations don’t follow the order of the books. With the recent announcement of Monogatari ’s upcoming Off and Monster seasons, I’m sure many of you are wondering how exactly one’s supposed to hop aboard this intimidating franchise. Monogatari ’s tales of supernatural menace and psychological inquiry are diverse and fascinating, but the series has been adopted piecemeal over the years, stretched across a variety of seasons, films, and OVAs that don’t necessarily lend themselves to easy on-boarding. Fortunately, you’ve got me here to help you out. And while specific questions like, “Should I watch the prequel film before the series, at its publication point in order, or when it was actually released?” might still invite debate, the Monogatari series as a whole isn’t terribly difficult to dive into, and well worth the effort. Sticking largely with the broadcast order that’s defined most fans’ experience with the series (and moving the occasional temporal...

Japanese creators have the uncanny ability of making nonsensical and preposterous themes and notions seem coherent, and in the process creating very entertaining titles. This tendency becomes quite evident in some of the anime series of the latest years, as the “Monogatari” series, “Kill La Kill” and “Assassination Classroom.” “One Punch Man” is also a distinct example of the tendency.
The anime is based on the homonymous, ongoing web comic by One, which begun publication in 2009. In 2012, Viz Media remade it into an extremely successful manga that sold over 4,5 million copies by 2014, and in 2015, Madhouse produced the anime series, which consists of 12 episodes.
The script revolves around Saitama, a human so strong that can vanquish any kind of enemy comes his way with just a single punch. And living in City Z, where monsters appear frequently to cause disasters, he has plenty of chances to do so.
