The name or title Baal, means "lord" or "master" in many languages, and appears in multiple ancient religions; Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Paganism (as Ba'al). Although the name refers to a group of deities, it was often used to refer to the god Hadad, properly called Baal-Hadad (Lord Hadad, the leader of the gods), the God of rain, and therefore fertility.
