Song Contest ?
jack_o_hasanov_imdb15 May 2022
I love Eurovision. Something political things has been going on for the past few years. This year has been one of the weakest years I have watched, perhaps the weakest. First of all, the surprising thing is that every time the televote was more interesting and fair, this time the jurivote was fair. I love and support Ukraine very much, but it is ridiculous and unfair for them to win. What about other countries ?!. Why did you do the contest then? Would you give the award directly to Ukraine.... The song was good, but it shouldn't have won. Again, I love Ukraine very much, but it shouldn't be like this. Really Eurovision was excellent last year, this year it has dropped and lost interest. People's faith in this competition has decreased.

I am really sorry. 6 point for just good songs and performance for contest 4 or 3.

It´s the most wonderful time of the year

Warning: Spoilers
A whole contintent has their annual large event like American football and Europe has Eurovision as America had their American Song Contest for the 1st time. We had a pandemic going slowly down, but now Europe is in pain again with Ukraine and Russia in war again in a bigger scale. But for three nights we had a summer party and there was songs for all like folk folk Moldova and Ukraine, the usual radio pop from Sweden and 00s rock from Finland. Many had a guess that Ukraine would win, and it was just as clear as Sweden would win in 2012 with an upbeat electro pop song that grabs you from the start. Now will we have an ESC 2023, or will another country host like decades ago?

Ukraine worthy winners

I was happy that Ukraine won without the sympathy votes. Because I actually like the song and I knew that they would win anyway. I am so proud of the UK, Sam Ryder was amazing and so is his song. My favourite was Azerbaijan but I did like Spain and Sweden too. Well just need to wait a few months to see if they'll be able to host the next contest in Ukraine or not.

a slice of honesty

The political vote, in the case of the last decade of Eurovision editions is far to be a surprise. 2022 has only the sin to virtue to propose from the start the winner, the vote becoming a sort of polite gesture. Stefania is a beautiful song but this can be the problem - its virtues are not important and Ukraine was the chosen from the first second for seltimental - political reasons.

But , for some years, Eurovision is only a game of negotiations and political reasons , simpaties and antipaties, the music becoming only a very, very small detail or, in happy case, pretext for demonstrations of solidarity.

I appreciated Moldova and Serbia. But the final verdict is so expected than nothing matters.

An unusual quality, v1.00

As an exercise, try making a video playlist equivalent for the 2022 songs that did not make it to the final. I found these to be as good as the songs that made the final. This year has a quality at the level of the Junior Eurovision of 2012.

Disappointing and Upset

Warning: Spoilers
Now, I love Eurovision. It's a fun, camp, mess. I'm a super fan. And I loved this final so much, truly an incredible experience, but once Ukraine's points were announced, it was all over. It's baffling to me that a song contest designed to showcase creativity, have fun and unite countries has just turned into a pity-fest. I liked Ukraine's entry, but it was FAR from the best one in the contest. And it's not just the fact that I personally didn't like it, it was clear that they were just trying to recreate the power of SHUM by Go_A, Ukraine's incredible entry from the previous year. And it won by HEAPS only because people felt bad because of the invasion. Obviously, it is an immensely tragic event, but I don't understand why that should dictate a music contest. Spain, Serbia, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, Netherlands, even the UK which I hated, all scored lower because of the politics. This is not about the subjectivity of music, this is about how the world felt the need to pity Ukraine's fairly mediocre entry to the point that it WON this incredible contest. No thank you.

Anyway, Serbia was my personal favourite and Spain was clearly one of the best entries in Eurovision history.

I'm mad and disappointed and just kinda bored.
