Beta Cinema has acquired international sales rights outside Italy to “My Place Is Here,” directed by Daniela Porto and Cristiano Bortone. They kicked off sales on the film at the European Film Market.
Set in rural Italy’s southern region of Calabria during the late 1940s, “My Place” is about the friendship between a single mother and a local wedding planner, who is the only gay person in their village. This friendship leads her to challenge the prejudices of the community and fight to find her place in the world.
“My Place Is Here” marks Porto’s feature film debut. Co-director Bortone is a helmer and producer known for “Red Like the Sky” (2005) and “Coffee” (2016), which was an Italy-China co-production, among other titles. The film is based on Porto’s eponymous novel that will be published in Italy in March.

Black sang the classic rock song in School of Rock, and joked that the filmmakers stole the idea for the Marvel film.
"You totally poached our jam," Black says in the video on Waititi's page.
Black then issued a musical throwdown. "This is a challenge. I'm challenging you to a battle. A battle of the jams!" he declares in the video.

Ebonnie Masini and Rian McLean in 'Round the Twist' (1989), Australian Children's Television Foundation
Australian children.s TV may have recently picked up an Emmy Kids award for the Abcme animation Doodles, but otherwise kids. TV in this country is in a dire state.
Free-to-air TV networks have to commission certain amounts of children.s programs each year. But in recent years there.s been a dismaying lack of new live action shows, or recognisably Australian content. Instead, local children.s TV has become dominated by animation with little sense of place.
This is a shame, because Australia.s most fondly remembered children.s TV shows are live action productions such as Mortified, Playschool, Blue Water High, and Round the Twist. When asked in a 2015 survey to name their favourite childhood TV characters, most people chose Round the Twist siblings Linda and Bronson, followed by Mortified.s Taylor Fry.

Rachel Dolezal took part in a live, interactive interview with The New York Times on Tuesday, and shed light on how she came to identify herself as black — and also offered a more nuanced take on how she views herself today.
“I identify as racially human, because really there is one human race,” Dolezal, 39, said when one person questioned the notion that she could be transracial. (In the interview, which streamed live on Facebook, readers could submit questions for Dolezal to answer.)
A day earlier, Dolezal told Today‘s Savannah Guthrie that “I don’t identify as African American, I identify as black.

Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who made national headlines in 2015 after she pretended to be black, is back in the spotlight thanks to a new memoir titled In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World.
In the book, which will be released on March 28, the former Washington NAACP leader doesn’t walk back on her claims that she self-identifies as a black woman, saying that living her life as a black person made her life “infinitely better,” although it did make her feel more “distant and isolated” from white people as she started to embrace more elements of African-American culture.

Welcome, fans of Dark Matter!
It is my pleasure to serve as reviewer this season; I confess that I only got into this series when I spotted it on Netflix during its hiatus, but it really appealed to the Firefly fan in me. So let's get this show on the road and turn our attention to the season premiere!
Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 1 picked up not too long after the Dark Matter Season 1 finale left off, with Six revealed as an undercover cop for the Galactic Authority and subsequently betraying the crew of the Raza. The hits did not stop there with that revelation, however.
I do want to point out the silliness of the opening with Two, Three, Four, and the others standing in the doorway in their underwear, gazing out into the common area of the prison. Fan service aside, it looked pretty absurd as they all stood there frozen,...

“My place of refuge, place I’ve always gone when I needed comfort and peace. It’s been the site of intense pain and the most intense feelings of joy and satisfaction. It’s a relationship that has evolved over time, given me the greatest love and respect for the game.” – Michael Jordan on basketball
Jordan’s words ring all too true about the strange spell basketball holds over its players; it’s an obsession quite unlike any other. Basketball players are a bizarre breed. Every sport has its admirers, but none are able to replicate the slavish devotion poured upon basketball by its participants. It’s a frenzied, exhilarating, maddening game, one which can only truly be understood by those who play it regularly. It gets into the brain, leaving tiny little quirks and thoughts common to all basketballers. Many are freely shared between teammates, while some are unspoken secrets.

Lily Allen has such a sweet voice, but as fans of the British singer know, her words are lethally tart. She may sound like she’s all puppies, rainbows and unicorns, but there’s a dark sense of humor running through almost every song. On “Sheezus,” her first album since 2009’s “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” Allen takes pot shots at her fellow female artists (or, more specifically, those who try to divide them), online trolls, D-list celebrities, and anyone else within arm’s reach. Her trenchant, sharp social commentary often hits its bullseye, but it doesn’t always make for an album that feels like it will have a long shelf life. In fact, “Sheezus” often feels so of-the-moment that it threatens to evaporate into thin air at times. Having said that, few artists seem to understand their place as well as Allen: she is completely confident...

A mild winter here it is.
The Europeans discuss this frequently in the context of Global Warming.
I remind them that N America is currently experiencing one of the worst winters on record.
My place, California, is same as always of course. Big drought but daytime is tee shirt weather. I like that.

Just 11 days into his job as the ABC.s Director of Television, Richard Finlayson has affirmed the broadcaster.s commitment to Australian drama and children.s programming.

.It will be 80% as early as 2017 and older demographics are close behind. We cannot afford to be complacent about the impact of this shift. Add to that the local aspirations of global content makers and distributors, rising costs and declining returns - and there will be plenty to think about.

Good morning!
Northampton is going to be losing a piece of lesbian history, as a house at 66 Green St. that used to house many a gay Smith student is being demolished.
Here's a preview for next week's episode of The Killing with Bullett trying to help police find her friend, Callie.
Mistresses Jes Macallan says there's "definitely chemistry" with her character and lesbian Alex on the show. We know! But I have to say, I hate how they dress Alex. She was wearing some crazy culotte ensemble last night that made me cringe.
This Disclosure music video is from last year, but a reader sent it in saying we all missed it somehow! And I agree with her that it's worth watching.
Selena Gomez was at La Gay Pride. Did you make out with her?...

Emma Roberts is figuring it out. Julia Roberts' niece, the daughter of actor Eric Roberts, the 22-year-old star of "Adult World" is grappling with living in the world as, well, an adult. When NextMovie caught up with Roberts at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City the day after the film's premiere, the actress was picking at a bunless burger and a heap of fries, bemoaning the blisters her heels had given her the night before. "Someone should do a shoe break-in service where they break in your shoes," she said.
Shoe problems aside, Roberts' career is standing tall: She's graduated from her "Nancy Drew" and "Aquamarine" kiddie film days to solidly received indies like "Adult World" and "It's Kind of a Funny Story," and a memorable supporting role as Ke$ha-like Riley in Rashida Jones' "Celeste and Jesse Forever." Her career is maturing as she does.

We all knew it would end like this. We all knew what was coming. We all knew the inevitability of how this would eventually all turn out.
And I am sooo not ready for it.
What an episode. What a show! And still two new episodes remain. I’m not sure I can take it. But, as your fearless recapper, I’ll certainly try.
Our scene opens in the swamps of Dagobah. Young Spartacus Skywalker seeks out a short, wizened old puppet for sage wisdom and advice. The withered, wise old creature has a question for you, Spartacus Skywalker:
Wizened Creature: Who your father is know you?
Spartacus: Uhh, the mailman?
Wizened Creature: Batiatus your father is.
Spartacus: Nooooooo!!!!!!!!
Funnily, in a roundabout way, Spartacus gives Batiatus credit for having shaped and created the man and leader he has become, but I’m getting ahead of my self.
We do actually open in a swamp,...

Former "Saved By the Bell" star Tiffani Thiessen (yes, she dropped the name Amber back in 2000) strips down to her undies for a sexy new photo shoot for the website Me In My Place.

The 38-year-old, who currently stars on "White Collar," but will always be remembered for her role as perky cheerleader Kelly Kapowski on the beloved '90s teen series, opened up to the website about the pressure she faced as a young actress who quickly garnered sex symbol status.
"I think any time you are on a hit show as a young actor or actress, you feel [pressured]. Then as a woman, there’s some additional pressures you feel to look a certain way and be a certain size. I was not the girl that was a size 2 and didn’t work for it. I was never the waify model type," she explained.

If ever there was a band destined to tour the stadia of the world, it’s Coldplay.
Coldplay Live 2012 is part documentary, part concert film; a fascinating look at the band taking their latest record, Mylo Xyloto, to sold-out venues across the globe.
Opening the film as the album does, with Mylo Xyloto bleeding into Hurts Like Heaven, we then switch back to an audience favourite, In My Place, before coming to our first documentary segment, spliced between a handful of the songs in the sixteen-track set list.
There are many things that separate Coldplay from the vast majority of bands making music today (or in any day), and one of those things is very much their exceptional live performances. You get the feeling that they want each and every person in the audience to feel like a part of the night, and the documentary gives an insight into that desire.
