Caitlin bumps into Ronnie into the lab, and he asks her to tend his wound. They chat about their jobs in STAR Labs, and Dr. Wells. Once Caitlin is done, they exchange names and Ronnie leaves, Caitlin telling him to come back anytime.
The Present
Caitlin stares at the Black Lame, and Ronnie's face in it tell her to join him so they can be whole. The Flame disappears as Caitlin asks Ronnie how she can save him.
In Coast City, Iris wonders what she did, and Tinya wonders where her mother is, and demands to know what happened. Iris winces in pain, and Sue tells Tinya to back off. Sue says that Iris has "a condition", and when it flares up, Iris loses time. Iris apologies to Tinya for what she did, and Sue calls Barry. Her phone disappears in a burst of chronal energy, and Iris screams in pain. Sue tells Tinya to get out, while Iris passes out.
At STAR Labs, Joe goes over a list of the Flame's potential victims, that were all killed in a similar way to the Flame's other victims. Cecile has confirmed that the other victims also suffered from grief, but Barry and Chester tell the team that now they have a way to stop the Flame using the modified sphere. Caitlin comes in and says the Flame wants her, and recognizes one of the victims because she' Caitlin's former yoga instructor. She knows the other victims as well, when they were on an applied science conference together. Caitlin tells the team that the Flame is Ronnie, and he wants her to save him.
Caitlin explains that the Flame spoke to her, and it was Ronnie. Barry points out that the Flame can get inside of peoples' heads, but she downloaded the data from the CCPD and confirmed the Flame is radiating Singularity energy... and that's how Ronnie died, merged with Stein. Caitlin says that matter can only be changed, and the pressure when the horizons merged turned him into biothermal energy. She figures that Ronnie isn't in control. His brain was flooded with grief hormone when he died, and his manner of death the same process gave him an attraction to the hormone and needs it to survive. Caitlin figures they can use the Quantum splicer to make Ronnie human, and the killings will stop.
Chuck suggests that they fuse one of Eva's chips to the splicer, which will create a second body for Ronnie. Everyone agrees and Chester and Caitlin go to the equipment.
Later in the medbay, Barry approaches Caitlin and suggests they slow down and make sure they're doing the right thing. Caitlin reluctantly agree, but refuses to let Ronnie burn forever. She insists that Ronnie is alive, and wants them to help him. Caitlin says that Marcus deserves to know, and figures that she'll tell him the truth.
Caitlin meets Marcus at Jitters and tells him everything. She says that Ronnie has been unconsciously hurting the people around her, and is worried that Marcus is next. Caitlin suggests that they separate, and Marcus wonders what happens to them. She says that since her last few relationships haven't gone well, but Marcus figures that they're breaking up but he'll respect Caitlin's decision. As he goes, Marcus talks about people have roots but they need to be tended to or their hearts will break. He says goodbye to Caitlin and leaves.
Barry is integrating Caitlin's RNA into the sphere. Frost joins him and Barry says that Caitlin is ignoring the warning signs. He figures that it's too good to be true, and Frost is there to check on the sphere because she's worried about Caitlin. Frost admits that she is, but refuses to fight with Caitlin again, and has to have her sister's back. She figures Barry would risk everything to save Iris, and they owe Caitlin the chance to try.
Chester is doing his podcast, and Allegra comes in and compliments him. He admits that he's sharing the specs for the chips online, and Chester tells Allegra that's the point. He points out how some of his fans are using his techs to "save the world", but Allegra warns that the chip technology could fall into the wrong hands. He figures that the point of scientific knowledge is to share it, and someone might come up with some why to apply his technology. Allegra points out that someone might use the technology to raise the dead, and says that most people aren't Chester, and shouldn't be able to change life on a whim. Chester agrees and shuts off his camera, and says that he'll keep his technology offline.
Cecile is walking down the hallway when the lights flicker. She hesitates and then goes into the main lab, and grabs at her head as the Flame's voice echoes in her, demanding to know where Caitlin is. The circuits short out, and Barry comes in and asks Cecile what happened. She says that the Flame connected with her mind, and is in great pain. Cecile says that she could sense Ronnie's anguish, and doesn't think Ronnie wants to die rather than be brought back.
Cecile and Barry tell Ronnie what Cecile sensed, but Caitlin doesn't believe it. The DA explains that the Flame is torturing Ronnie, and thinks Ronnie came to them so they would end Ronnie's suffering. Caitlin insists that Ronnie's wife, she would know what he wants. Cecile says that Caitlin should consider what Ronnie wants, and Barry says that he tried to bring back to save Iris, ignored the warning signs, and it all came crashing down on him and he didn't listen to his family or friends. Caitlin insists that it isn't another Flashpoint, but Barry says that it might be best to let go of Ronnie. Iris points out that the team has fallen in line for Barry and Iris, and she'll save Ronnie on her own if the others won't help her.

Caitlin is preparing to go to work at their apartment when Ronnie joins her. He notices that she's packed bag, and she says that they might take a trip for their one-year anniversary sine they met. The couple kiss, and then Ronnie goes to get ready.
Coast City: The Present
Iris wakes up in the hotel, and finds Sue there. Sue tells Iris that she ordered Tinya away to keep her safe, and knows Iris didn't mean to wipe out Tinya's mother. She says that they should go back to Central City despite Deon's warning. Tinya slips into the room and is still furious with Iris. Sue prepares to fight Tinya, who phases through Sue, grabs Iris, and makes her disappear in a burst of energy. Tinya tells Sue that she'll do the same to her if Sue tries to fight her, and leaves.
At STAR Labs, Cecile tells Chester and Allegra what she learned. Bay says that he'll use the sphere to capture the Flame, stop it from killing people, and end Ronnie's suffering one and for all. He insists they have to do it for Ronnie's sake, and Cecile confirms that it's what Ronnie wants. Frost suggests that they try and use the splicer, and Chester warns that it won't work if Ronnie isn't willing. If he isn't, it will cause an endothermic explosion, and Cecile says that Ronnie won't try. Barry says that they have to honor what Ronnie wants, and Frost goes to tell Caitlin.
The Past
Caitlin and Ronnie's car gets stuck in the snow, and when they can't get freed Caitlin complains that her romantic weekend was ruined. She admits that she was going to propose to him. They both agree that they should build a new future, and each get down on one knee and propose.
The Present
Frost tells Caitlin what the team's plan is, and Caitlin demands that she help her. Caitlin wonders why Frost won't help her, and Frost says that she was in Caitlin's subconscious when Ronnie died and what was worse was Caitlin pulling away from everyone. Frost has the chip and assures Caitlin she has her back, but makes her promise she'll never shut her off from anyone again. Caitlin agrees, and says that she knows where to find Ronnie.
Campers are at Piedmont State Park, where Caitlin and Ronnie got stuck in the snow years earlier. The campers are telling campfire horror stories, and the Flame roars up.
At STAR Labs, the team picks up the Flame's energy signature at Piedmont. Chester has the sphere ready with a sphere to put out the Flame. Flash speeds there with the sphere and tells the campers to get to the exit. He then activates the sphere, which pulls in the Flame. The sphere starts to heat up, and Barry warns the team that the sphere is heating up and he isn't sure how much longer he can hold it.
The sphere absorbs the Flame, but Frost and Caitlin arrive and Frost blasts the sphere out of Flash's hands. The Flame emerges, Frost holds Flash back, and Caitlin confronts the Flame and remembers her time with Ronnie before he died. The Flame takes on the form of Ronnie, and Caitlin puts the stabilizer on him. He turns fully solid, and Ronnie tells her that she saved him. Ronnie collapses and Caitlin says that they're both okay.
The next day at STAR Labs, Caitlin reports that Ronnie is stable, but there are still occasional energy spikes. Everyone tells Caitlin that they're happy for her, and Chester reports that there's no sign of the Flame. Barry apologizes to Caitlin for ever doubting her, and Caitlin says that he was just doing what he thought was right. She admits that Ronnie played D&D in college, much to Chester's happiness. Cecile, apologizes, wondering how she got it so wrong, but Caitlin says that it doesn't matter.
That night, Barry tries to call Iris but only gets her voice mail. Sue arrives and tells him she doesn't know where Iris is
Caitlin detects another spike and goes to the medbay to check on Ronnie. She discovers that he's gone, and the lights go out behind her. She goes out into the hallway to investigate, and the lights go out in a pattern, directing her to the lounge. Ronnie is there, and says that he called her there to show her that he feels stronger than ever due to the stabilizer. He knew that she would build what he needed, and isn't going anywhere. "Ronnie" says that Ronnie is dead, and sacrificed himself to the Singularity. The Flame's eyes are solid back, and it says that Ronnie unleashed chaos and gave it live. Now it's something greater. It adjusts the stabilizer controls and bursts into black flame, and says that it's now Death Storm.
