Charles Logan : [Jack Bauer attacks Logan's convoy while dressed in armor and a mask, and Logan panics] Oh, that's... That's Jack Bauer. That's gotta be. Did you hear what I said? THAT'S JACK BAUER! Don't just sit there! He's coming for ME! KILL HIM!
-
Jack Bauer : [after kidnapping Logan] look at me
Jack Bauer : [Yells] I said look at me: you're going to tell me everything I want to know
Charles Logan : You're making a mistake
Jack Bauer : Don't even try to pretend you're not a part of this. I found the man who killed Renee Walker: the Russian operative Pavel Tokarev, I got his cell phone. The last call he got was from you
Charles Logan : I know how it looks: let me explain
Jack Bauer : Explain what? That you sent him to kill me?
Jack Bauer : [Yells] you sent him to kill me right?
Charles Logan : Yes
Jack Bauer : Why'd you take a hit out on Renee Walker?
Charles Logan : I had nothing to do with that, I was brought in after it happened
Jack Bauer : Who brought you in?
Charles Logan : President Taylor needed my help to bring the Russians back to the table, I called my sources in Moscow, and they told me people in their government were behind Hassan's assassination, I told the Russian delegation I had evidence: the names of everybody. It was just to keep them at the conference...
Jack Bauer : [Yells] what evidence?
Charles Logan : It doesn't exist, I was playing poker: it was a bluff... it worked, it kept Taylor's peace agreement on the table but you were so determined to screw things up...
Charles Logan : [after Jack punches his stomach] I admit, I was part of the cover-up but I'm not part of the Russian conspiracy. I had nothing to do with the terrorist attack or your friend's death... I'm not the bad guy here
Jack Bauer : [Points a gun at his throat] you know who is. You know the name of the person inside the Russian government who's giving the orders, I want that name
Jack Bauer : [Yells] give me the name, you got five seconds before I put a bullet through...
Charles Logan : No, you don't have to
Jack Bauer : [Counting down] five, four, three...
Charles Logan : I'll tell you: Mikhail Novakovich, he's the head of the Russian delegation, he's been trying to kill the peace treaty from the start
Jack Bauer : [Points the gun to his right cheek] you're lying
Charles Logan : No, I'm not lying, you got my call from Pavel's phone, check the previous calls: there's a dozen more from Novakovich, I'm telling you his the one you want
Jack Bauer : [Put his hand over his mouth, after hearing Secret Service Agents moving in] say another word, I'll "drop you" right here
-
Charles Logan : [Over the phone] tell me you have a lead on Bauer?
Jason Pillar : I'm sorry sir: we tracked him to an adjacent building but Bauer managed to get out of the cordon along with Meredith Reed, also his killed Pavel. I've taken jurisdictional control of the scene from NYPD: we should be able to keep this contained but... it's going to matter if Bauer's already passed on the evidence he got from Dana Walsh to the press, the story's going to come out
Charles Logan : No, not necessarily, we... still might be able to manage this
Jason Pillar : Look sir, I know you've told me you're committed to seeing this through, you can still extricate yourself from this mess. There's no evidence of your involvement yet: you can still delay the press announcement
Charles Logan : It's too late for that. The White House press secretary just announced my "role" in the peace process, there is no turning back
Jason Pillar : Then there's something else you should know: Bauer didn't just kill Pavel, he butchered him. He beat him savagely and then eviscerated him. I don' think Bauer's just looking to expose the Russian's involvement in the plot against Hassan... this guy's out for blood
Charles Logan : Then you better find him and stop him
Jason Pillar : Yes sir
Charles Logan : [Before hanging up] keep me posted
-
Charles Logan : [Talking privately] the operation to capture Jack Bauer was unsuccessful: he got away along with the evidence that he "took" from Dana Walsh
President Allison Taylor : You said you had the situation "under control?"
Charles Logan : Clearly, I was "overly optimistic" and in my optimism, I neglected to tell you that Bauer made contact with a journalist: Meredith Reed
President Allison Taylor : My God
Charles Logan : You need to call her publisher right away, deny any foreknowledge of whatever evidence she has and demand that they do not run the story
President Allison Taylor : You're suggesting "muzzling" the press? Have you forgotten freedom of the press is constitutionally protected?
Charles Logan : You are the President for God's sake, invoke national security, you tell them this story will start a war: innocent lives will be lost
President Allison Taylor : New lies to cover old ones
Charles Logan : The time's past for hand-wringing. If you don't use the power of your Office, to shut this story down, your peace agreement won't be the only casualty. You don't need me to tell you what your criminal prosecution will do to this country
President Allison Taylor : This country survived your Presidency
Charles Logan : But it won't survive yours... me? I inherited my Presidency, I was never nearly as popular as you are and most of my alleged misdeeds never made the press but if you to "bear your sins" to the people who put you in Office... you are a "beacon of righteousness", not only for Americans but for the rest of the world. "You" are the President who had her own daughter arrested rather see justice un-served
President Allison Taylor : I've never should've let you do this
Charles Logan : With all due respect, I gave you "recommendations", I "made" whatever arrangements" needed to be "made" but every decision was yours. Let's not pretend "otherwise", I've "studied" you for a number of years. I pride myself on being a good judge of character: you're a smart woman, you've always known what needed to be done and were willing to do it, which is why I know you'll call Meredith Reed's publisher and make sure he kills the story
Charles Logan : [When she doesn't respond, before leaving] I would suggest you do it now, you have a signing ceremony to prepare for and I need to go meet President Suvarov
-
Charles Logan : [Over the phone] you don't need to panic
President Yuri Suvarov : Do you know what he did to Pavel? He was beaten savagely, gutted like a pig, his men shot dead
Charles Logan : I'm... sorry to hear that but we both knew that Bauer would be a difficult problem to solve
President Yuri Suvarov : You know what his doing? Don't you? His eliminating everyone involved, working his way up. How long before he gets to me?
Charles Logan : That's not going to happen
President Yuri Suvarov : How could you be so sure?
Charles Logan : Because you told me yourself, your man would never talk, if that's true, nobody outside your inner circle can point the finger at you. I promise you: Bauer is never going to know and on the upside his recent activities have given us a bit of an advantage
President Yuri Suvarov : What advantage?
Charles Logan : CTU orders concerning him have been upgraded to "shoot on sight"
President Yuri Suvarov : First, you have to find him
Charles Logan : They're going to find him... don't worry, he stay "under the radar" forever. I'll keep you posted
-
President Yuri Suvarov : [Over the phone] I was under the impression you were going to be at the heliport for my arrival?
Charles Logan : Yeah, well, I ran into some "trouble." I'm afraid I have bad news: it appears Mikhail Novakovich was murdered by Jack Bauer
President Yuri Suvarov : What?
Charles Logan : Bauer learned Novakovich was responsible for ordering and coordinating Hassan's assassination as well as the rest of today's activities
President Yuri Suvarov : Where would he get that idea?
Charles Logan : From me... a lunatic was going to kill me, what could I say? Think of it as "sacrificing a rook for a king"
President Yuri Suvarov : Then Bauer has no idea that Novakovich was operating under my orders?
Charles Logan : None, according to a witness, Mikhail didn't have a chance to give you up, even if he wanted to. As far as Bauer is concerned, the trail ended with Novakovich, his being hunted by every law enforcement agency in the city and I heard his been wounded
President Yuri Suvarov : There is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal
Charles Logan : If you're so worried about Bauer, you shouldn't have given the order to kill Renee Walker: that's what "stirred up the hornet's nest"
President Yuri Suvarov : If I had known you were going to find out about our activities and use the information to blackmail me into signing Taylor's peace agreement, I wouldn't have bothered with the woman
Charles Logan : It's "water under the bridge." I needed an "opportunity" to put myself "back in the game", I'm sorry it's come at your expense. You wouldn't begrudge an old friend for a "second chance in the sun"?
