The phone in close ups is shown to have multiple bars for the battery life. However, from a distance, the phone is shown to have one battery bar that just slowly decreases as a whole. It's actually 2 different phones he uses.
Right after Conroy frees his hands, he removes the white cloth around his neck, but in later shot, it's seen around his neck again.
4 minutes before the phone gets changed from Arabic to English the battery status drops to two charge bars. Yet during the change it registers 3 charge bars. The next scene shows 2 charge bars again.
As Paul takes a drink after his pills, he lifts the flask to his mouth with his left hand, in the next shot he is shown drinking from his right hand, then in the following shot he sets the flask down again with his left hand.
Just after Paul takes a second handful of pills, he sips from the flask and puts it down without screwing the lid back on. The camera angle immediately changes and the flask is then seen with the lid back on.
During the scene when Dan Brenner asks Paul Conroy how much battery life the mobile phone has remaining, Paul pulls the mobile phone away from his face and reveals that he is holding the phone upside down against his face, with the microphone and keyboard at his ear, and with the screen and speaker towards his mouth. After reporting battery life to Dan, Paul proceeds to hold the upside-down phone back to his ear with incorrect top/bottom orientation.
When Conroy is recording his hostage video, a red light blinks beside the camera lens to show that it is recording. When he is recording his "will", the phone beeps to indicate it has started recording, but there is no light.
At the end of the movie where Paul is trying to call several times without any answer, the camera is zooming in on the phone's display to focus on the battery life. However, during this zoom you can see that it says "No service" on the display. Despite this, Paul can dial/call without any problems right after.
The story line of the movie is set in 2006, though the phone that Paul Conroy uses, the Blackberry Curve 8900, came out in 2008.
