As TV academy voters fill out their 2024 Emmy nominations ballots, they will have to consider 107 shows for Best Drama Series. This is down by 56 contenders compared to last year. As was the case in 2023, members may not allow their selections to exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be eight.
2023 Best Drama Series winner “Succession” and six of the seven also-rans are out of the current race because they did not air new episodes during the June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 qualifying period. This leaves “The Crown” as the only 2023 nominee eligible for an immediate return, which could lead to its second victory here following its first in 2021.
Remember, only eight of the shows below will earn bids for Best Drama Series when the Emmy nominations are announced on July 17. Which do you think will make the cut?

The Green Veil is coming back to The Network… with a twist. Variety reports that the new free streamer has renewed its inaugural drama for a second season, and already a ton of details about what’s ahead for the series have been unveiled. Here’s a look at everything we know about The Green Veil Season 2 so far. Who will star in The Green Veil Season 2? Lead star John Leguizamo on board to return to his role as Gordon Rogers, and he’s not the only one. Variety reports that the entire cast from Season 1 will return. Alongside Leguizamo, Season 1’s cast included Hani Furstenberg as Mabel Rogers, John Ortiz as Gilberto Sutton, Irene Bedard as Glennie Sutton, and Steven Boyer as Edward Boon. In a statement, Leguizamo (who also serves as executive producer on the series) said of the renewal, “Every step in the developmental process we were...

After weeks of FYC events and relentless campaigning from studios, voting for the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations has officially begun, with Television Academy members holding ballots in hand.
Nearly 24,000 industry professionals, divided among 31 professional peer groups, sit among the organization’s ranks, each member voting on specific categories. However, every eligible voter can cast a ballot in the top 15 series races: comedy, drama, limited or anthology, television movie, talk, variety special (live), variety special (pre-recorded), short form (comedy/drama/variety), short form (nonfiction/reality), hosted nonfiction, structured reality, unstructured reality, reality competition, scripted variety and game show.
According to TV Academy rules, the number of nominees is determined by the number of submissions. However, drama and comedy series are designated for eight shows each to make the final cut. There were 229 total series submitted in the drama, comedy, and limited or anthology series categories, compared to 309 last year, marking a 33% decrease.

I can’t help admiring the sheer audacity of Aram Rappaport. He’s the creator, writer and director behind “The Green Veil,” a drama series starring John Leguizamo that debuted with two episodes at the Tribeca fest in 2022. When he couldn’t find an outlet to pick up the full series, Rappaport decided to launch his own ad-supported streaming service — dubbed The Network — from scratch.
Set in the 1950s, “The Green Veil” takes on the history of oppression in America — and in particular, atrocities committed against the Indigenous community. Leguizamo plays a brutal FBI agent, and Rappaport believes the nature of the story was “something that’s just very hard to be greenlit anywhere else just because of the subject matter. So I feel like this is a perfect drama for us to launch with, and make a statement about what we’re trying to do with a platform like this.

The Network's The Green Veil premiered on its resident streamer on April 30, but viewers are still wondering how exactly to watch the eight-episode show.
The 1950s-set series centers around John Leguizamo as Gordon Rogers, an immigrant who comes to the United States sold on the American Dream. Taking on the role of a government agent, he is put on a mission that leads to a myriad of secrets being uncovered.
The series generated great buzz from early screenings, diving deep into themes of race and featuring a potentially divisive main character.

The list of streaming platforms and new programming continues to grow, and the good news is the latest of the former is free! The Network, an ad-supported premium streaming platform, officially launched on Tuesday, April 30. It “seeks to declutter the streaming experience, eliminating audiences’ endless scrolling to find appealing series and films” and is “built on the principle ‘Always Originals, Always Free.'” The platform was created by Aram Rappaport, founder of the creative ad agency The Boathouse with backing from Bh Media Holdings, and will be available on all devices across Apple, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire, and the web. The Network will release two originals at a time: dramas on Tuesdays and comedies on Thursdays. With the launch on Tuesday, it released the first two episodes of the drama The Green Veil and the comedy Chivalry. The Network The Green Veil is an eight-episode drama/thriller/sci-fi series from...

John Leguizamo has portrayed a wide range of characters in his career, from comic book villains to Shakespearean legends to drag queens. Despite his versatility, fans have never seen him as dark and unsettling as he is in the new TV series “The Green Veil.”
His portrayal of the 1950s FBI agent Gordon Rogers was already rattling audiences after the premiere of the first four episodes of the new drama at Variety‘s TV FYC Screening Series on April 26 in West Hollywood. Following the screening, one fan revealed that it was difficult to witness Leguizamo’s character inflict trauma after trauma and asked how he managed to act out the scripted atrocities.
“I don’t need people to like me in this role,” Leguizamo responded. “That’s not what I want. I want it to be understood, understood how a person becomes this vile and twisted.” This powerful performance set...

Emmy and Tony winner John Leguizamo has been tapped to star alongside Taron Egerton in Apple’s upcoming drama series Firebug, from Apple Studios and creator Dennis Lehane. Additionally, Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning director Kari Skogland will direct and serve as executive producer.
Written by Lehane and loosely inspired by true events, Firebug will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.
Leguizamo with play Esposito, a former policeman with a lot of bad habits and a lot of good instincts.
Previously announced Jurnee Smollett also stars.
In addition to starring, Egerton will serve as executive producer alongside Richard Plepler through Eden Productions, Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas through Imperative Entertainment and Kary Antholis.

Exclusive: The Network is the latest free streaming service to launch in the U.S. The ad-supported service, which was set up by Aram Rappaport, founder of the creative ad-agency The Boathouse, is launching April 30.
However, the service, which has backing from Bh Media Holdings, is not launching with a slew of library titles and movies. Instead, it will focus on two originals at a time.
It is launching with Chivalry, a comedy originally commissioned by the UK’s Channel 4 and starring Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani, and The Green Veil starring John Leguizamo.
Chivalry was written by Coogan and Solemani and is set in Hollywood, exploring the nuances, advances, and limitations of the entertainment industry in a post #MeToo era. Philip Glass has been composing soundscapes of ambient intrigue for documentary filmmaker Errol Morris for decades, from the groundbreaking true-crime doc “The Thin Blue Line” to the Robert McNamara portrait “The Fog of War.” Now, the three-time Oscar-nominated modernist composer and co-writer Paul Leonard-Morgan have crafted the original score for Morris’ John le Carré documentary “The Pigeon Tunnel,” the Apple TV+ documentary that opens Friday, October 20. Also premiering that day will be the film’s original soundtrack from Platoon, and IndieWire shares an exclusive track off the album below.
“It is our pleasure to share ‘The Pigeon Tunnel’ soundtrack,” said Philip Glass and Paul Leonard-Morgan, adding that “the orchestral journey this score took us on, combing the cimbalom of ’60s espionage soundtracks with symphonic orchestral work, led to 80 minutes of score, almost the entirety of the film.”
The film centers on four days of interviews with le Carré in 2019 that...

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.
