The montage of the JSA writing down their versions of the perfect wish to make is completely improvised. Lea Thompson gave the actors fifteen minutes to do what they thought would work.
The JSA members shown in Pat's photo are from left to right (standing) Johnny Thunder, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Flash, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Thunderbolt; and left to right (sitting) Wildcat, Hourman, Starman, Sandman, and Dr. Mid-Nite.
The Shade calls Courtney "Star Spangled Kid" which is Courtney's alias in the original Stargirl comics. It is also Sylvester Pemberton's original superhero alias before he became Starman.
Johnny Thunder first appeared in Flash Comics #1 (January 1940). He was the seventh son of a seventh son, born on 7/7/1917. He was kidnapped by Badhnesians, who gave him a mystical genie, Thunderbolt, that granted unlimited wishes, and could be summoned by Johnny saying the magic phrase "Cei-U" (phoenetically, "Say you"). Johnny was initially unaware of the super-fast near-invisible genie and summoned him by saying "Say, you..." in conversation. Johnny brought the original JSA together when he made one of his inadvertent wishes. The genie was eventually put into a pen and his summoning phrase was changed to "So cool" ("sokewl"). Another seventh son, Jakeem Williams, gained the pen and the Thunderbolt genie when a now-elderly Johnny suffered from Alzhermer's.
This episode confirms a widely believed fan theory that Jenny and Jakeem Williams are related. The end of the episode reveals they are siblings.
