This was an action packed season finale that didn't disappoint. The family came together as always but Grandson Joe held his own and took the lead even after bringing Danny and Jamie in. It was also nice to see Jamie taking a lead instead of the usual Danny and mostly Joe not backing down to Danny.

Best. Finale. EVER!!!!

The way Danny and Jamie went out of the way to save their nephew Joe from gang life was absolutely incredible. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of Joe. It's no surprise that he already has a strong fan base.

Would have been a great series finale

Showrunner Kevin Wade very reasonably assumed when CBS told him the show was getting a sixteen episode run with a two part finale that CBS was ready to pull the plug. So these two episodes were written to serve as a series finale and as such, this pair of episodes works excellently. The overall plot of the Reagan family banding together from their various positions within the justice system and with their closest associates to "do whatever it takes" to save Joe echoes the first season finale where they did essentially the same thing to avenge Joe's father. That main plot along with nods to the show's past would have made it a satisfying conclusion in many ways.

However, CBS renewed the series and the writers kind of backed themselves into a corner with the character of Joe Hill because of how these episodes are written. But taken on their own merits and how they were intended, these episodes are very nearly perfect.

Intense action-style 2 part season finale episode that took a page out of ABC's The Rookie with the feeling of The Rookie vibes

This was a nail biting episode in the form of Nathon FIllion's The Rookie! (Well, that show takes place in Los Angeles and shows LAPD officers and Blue Bloods takes place in NY with NYPD officers ) but still, I was on the edge of my seat, as if that was my family too. It had The Rookie vibes. It reminded me of the drug cartel situation shown on The Rookie, Shooting the criminal at the hotel was brilliant. It was like the LAPD officers (John Nolan, Eric Winter, Nyla Harper), with who are efficient on that other cop show The Rookie. That show is an upbeat to the old Adam 12 type show, with this one being much more interesting. I like the way that Jaime, Danny, Joe, teamed up as the everyday officers with of course the Hollywood action boost shown on ABC's The Rookie. If it were made exactly like the daily duty of an officer there more than likely wouldn't be more than one or two calls outside of a traffic stop or report to be taken. They also have zen like quality of the officers too (like the Rookie). Wondered why nobody had ever used that tactic before. Joe holding up his map to show where he was was a brainstorm idea. Excellent. Then the final shootout was incredible, Remember that Joe's relative side resents the Reagans, they want Joe to be a Hill. They did not want him to be apart of dangerous assignments. They most likely would have refused an invite to celebrate. The writers stayed true to the characters and the story line. The one liners references Reagans made were excellent but so sad when the guy got killed in the end that had become sympathetic to Joe. The actor portraying Joe did an amazing job. What a contribution to the Reagans. His relatives should have been at the Reagan dinner table. They're family too, Especially at this scary success. It is enjoyable and the audience leaves the episode feeling good about the episode.

Incomplete

While I felt that the final two episodes of this season were the best in the last 2 or 3 years, this is not saying much. This USED to be one of my favorite dramas. Then writing changed and acting vanished. Constant anger is not a range of emotions. These last two episodes presented an interesting main plot, although similar to one done with the Jamie character. But the ending was incomplete.

What happened to the Kenny character? What happened with the shipment of military arms? What happened to the plot to storm the courthouse? If intended to be a season end cliff hanger ...very poorly done!

My blood pressure was definitely 10s of points higher at the end of this episode

I was looking forward to a couple of episodes dedicated to the newly discovered grandson, great grandson and nephew Joe Hill. The actor certainly seems talented and deserving of the spotlight. Undercover episodes always raise my blood pressure because they're so fraught with danger. I know I know, so are all police-forensic shows, but especially undercover work due to the danger of being "made."

The Reagans could have lost all three sons and all for the thrill of a shootout! I'm not sure I'll be returning next season, if there is a next season.

Fire the writers

From the last five mins and what happened in the previous episode, and the opening leading back to the torched car and body in this episode, feels unresolved and makes no sense, and most of the rest of the episode is a convoluted mess. What little does make sense, felt rushed and lazily written, as if another episode after this one was axed and squeezed together to make this episode. All of Joe's sneaking around and to admitting he was a cop felt unnecessary and made no sense. It felt more like dramatic filler for the very little substance leading up to an underwhelming resolution. Seems like the writers need a talking-to, because the last two episodes for this season's finale were a mess.

Most Disappointing

This two-part season finale was most disappointing. I felt like I was watching The Sopranos instead of Blue Bloods. Are the Reagans a mob family now? And could someone at CBS please pay the electric bill? Even scenes set mid-day (sun visible through the blinds) and bathed in shadows. It gets old.

I'm conflicted.

On one hand, Blue Bloods is one of my favorite shows.

On the other hand, to be real, this season finale was disappointing. It felt like an over long chase story that never ended.

It's always delightful to see one of Tom's Jesse Stone co stars, and Gloria Reuben is still a scene stealer.

Jump that shark!

I rarely write or post such clichéd comments, but the last half of this episode (as the last quarter of the two-hour finale) is about as straightforward a shark-jump as any since the original. The entire setup was completely out of character for all the Reagan sons and the shootout was simply ridiculous, with the good guys picking off the "Indians" one-two-fourteen.

I know all the issues this season labored under-COVID, budget, cast getting tired, Tom Selleck's mobility issues becoming more significant, and the threat/warning that it was probably the series end. But the writers and runners overreached without actually grasping a worthy story line or conclusion. Full shark jump... and with two more seasons, so far, to go.

Well this season finale was terrible and Joe most unlikeable...

This is usually an intriguing, emotional and entertaining show, well written. But this season finale was terrible. First of all, the stakes for a two parter seemed insignificant for all the drama and months of undercover and death of poor Ty.

At best this could be a homicide ep with catching Max, no Joe needed. Which was the other problem IMO and the biggest. The actor, the character, I dont know, just seemed like the douchiest, unlikeable, self-absored and most of all an absolute self-righteous pr1ck. They tried with the "i love you grandpa" but even that was delivered cold and forced. And we were supposed to pull for him and have compassion for him?

For the guy who wanted to shoot Ty and his character cold as ice.

Perhaps with another actor,better written character, bigger stakes and an actual logical story arc (not gun smuggling undercover op that after months climaxes in a custody break-out) this would be an episode worthy of the series and finale.

But as is, it was nonsensical with totally unlikeable main character and poor, almost nonexistant story.
