The Dave Matthews Band (Dmb) has announced this year’s summer tour.
The band will return to some of the venues they performed at last year during the 2023 Summer Tour. Places like The Woodlands, Texas, West Palm Beach, Florida and Wantagh, New York, among others, will be welcoming the rock band back.
Many of their tour stops will have them staying for two nights and performing back-to-back concerts.
Also, like last year, Dmb is scheduled to conclude the summer tour in George, Washington, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in September.
Dmb has found much success since their formation in 1991. With ten studio albums, they’ve sold over 30 million albums in the whole country alone. They’ve also been nominated for the Grammy Awards 14 times and won Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997.
Band members include frontman Dave Mathews, bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer Carter Beauford, violinist Boyd Tinsley and saxophonist LeRoi Moore.

On paper, filmmaker Steven Spielberg and novelist Roald Dahl couldn't be more different. Spielberg has been known as a sentimental filmmaker, expertly presenting many heartwarming fables throughout his career. Thanks to films like "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Always," "Hook," and "War Horse," one can see the optimist in Spielberg shining through. His films tend to end well for their protagonists, and his little kid characters experience growth and wonderment, even as they survive mayhem. Yes, Spielberg could be intense and bitter at times, but he's hardly known for his cynicism. Roald Dahl, meanwhile, might be defined by his cynicism. In Dahl's children's stories, the world is a bleak and aggressive place, full of abusive adults and systems designed to exploit children. "Matilda" takes place at the world's most miserable school. "James and the Giant Peach" begins with the eponymous character being horrible abused by his two aunts. It's a...

Today in 2002, the first Broadway revival of Into the Woods opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, where it ran for 279 performances. Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Into the Woods won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical Joanna Gleason, in a year dominated by The Phantom of the Opera. The main characters are taken from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, most likely taken from the original story of Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm.

In 2011, the artist Natalie Frank was sitting with the painter Paula Rego in her London studio. Rego has worked with fairy tales a lot in her work, and she suggested Frank read some of the Grimm’s tales in their original, well, quite grim versions — before they got sanitized by Disney, in other words. Rego felt that the stories aligned strongly with Frank’s interests in women’s bodies, sexuality, violence, and everyday transformations. “I was so taken by the stories that I thought I knew,” Frank says of reading the tales. “I didn't know that Rapunzel actually gets her name because her mother is craving rapunzel lettuce, which is growing in the witch’s garden. So she trades her baby, who is Rapunzel, for magic lettuce.” Or, for example, that Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters try to fool the prince into thinking they are that girl from the ball by...

Into the Woods opened on Broadway in 1987, with the music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim and the book by James Lapine. It is Sondheim’s most performed musical and one of his best known works. The story combines familiar characters from childhood fairy tales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and the ubiquitous Witch, and explores their journeys to get their wish, as well as the negative consequences of the small dishonesties committed by each character to get what they want. As the witch sings, “Told a little lie/Stole a little gold/Broke a little vow/Did you?/Had to get your prince/Had to get your cow/Had to get your wish/Doesn’t matter how.” As the story unfolds, the traditional dichotomies of good and evil, and our expectations of each character, are shaken.

Over the past two decades, and the last 15 years in particular, Colleen Atwood has cemented herself as one of Hollywood's leading costume designers. She's earned three Oscars and is continually sought after by many leading directors to design threads for a variety of time periods and genres. With "Into the Woods," she has once again reunited with Rob Marshall for an inimitable blend of period and fantasy. HitFix recently spoke the Atwood, who picked up her 11th Oscar nomination for the film earlier this month. Read through the back and forth below. "Into the Woods" is now playing in theaters. *** HitFix: You clearly had to create many iconic characters for this film. Is that intimidating at all? Colleen Atwood: It was totally intimidating and not only creating them but creating them together in the same movie! Like, everybody is iconic, but it sort of flowed once I started. I started with the witch.

Chicago – Neither Hollywood nor purely Broadway, Disney’s big-screen adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” finds a charming home on Hollyway.
Even if you’re not a “musical kind of person,” I challenge you not to want to sing along to the catchy tunes or laugh at the intentionally overdramatic comedy.

But the standouts are the 13-year-old Lilla Crawford – who has played “Annie” and “Billy Elliot” on Broadway – and a surprising Chris Pine. Pine is the only non-safe casting decision – where it feels...

After months of hype, Into the Woods, director Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical, hits theaters on Christmas day.
Even though the film boasts an ensemble cast, most of the attention has been focused on everyone’s favorite actress, Meryl Streep, who plays a witch who inadvertently brings together many of Brothers Grimm’s beloved characters, including Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), and Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy).
While bewitching, Streep doesn’t run away with the film. Sure, she gets to sing some of the musical’s best numbers--and she did get one of the film’s two acting nominations at the 2015 Golden Globes--but there are at least seven other A-list stars who make use of their screen time.

I was both "excited and scared." These words, as sung by Little Red Riding Hood in the classic, Stephen Sondheim musical, echoed my sentiments as I walked into Disney's film adaptation of Into the Woods, a play I hold in very high regard and one of the seminal musicals that developed my love for the form. My cause for concern stemmed from director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine), whom, to this point, I don't believe has made a particularly good movie. Sitting down in the theater, my heart was pounding. Then, the fifteen-minute-long opening prologue started, and I began to settle. The show was in good hands, and the result is a successful entry into movie musical canon, even despite some issues. The film opens with a focus, primarily, on three separate fairy tales, two familiar to us all and one a new creation. First is Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) attending the king's festival,...

Early in the film of the fairy-tale operetta Into the Woods, I was nearly jumping out of my seat with glee. The creators of the original show, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, had intended to transcend — even explode — the sugary, homogenized Walt Disney treatment. Now here it is, getting a full, lavish Disney studio production with big-deal movie stars (Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Johnny Depp) and somehow working as well if not better than it did almost 30 years ago on Broadway. My euphoria lasted a long, long time … but all good things must end. Which is also the point of the musical, though not quite in the way it happens here. Until its hairpin turn into the apocalyptic, the material is ingenious. Sondheim and Lapine take three Brothers Grimm stories — “Cinderella,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” and “Rapunzel” — and set them...

Disney has released two new clips for their upcoming fairytale musical Into the Woods. The first clip features the Witch (Meryl Streep) telling the Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) what they need to do in order to get their curse reversed. The second clip features the Baker and his wife exchanging the magic beans for Jack’s (Daniel Huttlestone) cow. The movie seems to be getting decent reviews, and I'm looking forward to taking my kids to go see it.
