Sitting across the table from another person, locking eyes, glancing down, laughing, smiling, the gentle flirtations that occur without machinations or intent — these are the rudiments of romance, the forgotten tenets of how we fall in love, if we fall in love at all. To watch this play out in our own lives is one thing; to watch it play out in front of our eyes is almost too intimate an act to process.

End Of The Road is a festival that keeps its promises. The cultured leftfield shindig – where croquet tournaments break out in forest glades and peacocks roam the trimmed lawns of Dorset’s Larmer Tree Gardens, unbothered by the experimental folk, rock, rap and electronic tomfoolery floating across the site – has been promising a weekend headlined by indie giants Pixies and Bright Eyes since 2020. Covid scuppered that event, and post-pandemic travel issues forced the 2021 bill to become more UK-based. But this year, Eotr puts its music where its mouth is at last, with plenty more curveballs thrown in to keep this crowd of discerning alternative music fans pleasingly off-balance.
The opening Thursday night bill is a brain-rattling case in point. On the main Woods Stage, LA’s Sudan Archives sets out to invent jig-hop, interspersing psychosexual ambient raps with ruined snippets of Irish folk played on the fiddle she brandishes throughout.

Sterling Lord, who represented Jimmy Breslin, Art Buchwald, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gordon Parks and most famously, Jack Kerouac, died Saturday in Ocala, Fla. He was 102 and his death was confirmed by his daughter, Rebecca Lord. No cause was given.
The list of literary greats represented by Lord over his long career included Frank Deford, David Wise, Nicolas Pileggi, Delores Kearns Goodwin, Joe McGinniss, Pete Gent, Pete Axthelm, and more. But it was Kerouac’s book that is likely his lasting legacy, sold for 1,000 after four years of trying. It went on to sell more than five million copies.
Lord was born in Burlington, Iowa, on Sept. 3, 1920. His father was an amateur bookbinder and nourished his son’s passion for books. Oddly, Lord himself publilshed only two works, a how-to on tennis and a memoir, neither of them massive sellers.

Exclusive: Before Kevin Hart was a top comedian, a global movie star and a media mogul, he was a lost 20-year-old in Philly working at a sneaker shop in a 90s mall. That early chapter in Hart’s life is the inspiration for True To Size, a half-hour single camera comedy, which, in a competitive situation, has landed at Peacock for development. The project hails from stand-up comedian and writer Dan Levy (The Goldbergs), Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions, Doug Robinson and Sony Pictures Television, where Robinson and his Drp Productions are based.
Hart has spoken openly about his stint as a sneaker salesman, which he took very seriously at the time and strived to be the best at despite only taking the job to make his mom happy and keep him out of trouble. The gig would eventually change his life when the store manager convinced him to try standup at an open mic.

Life After Life, Kate Atkinson’s acclaimed 2013 novel that’s now a four-part BBC drama, is founded on the bruising truth that existence is unbearably fragile. Its world, our world, is a dangerous place pitted with obstacles. It’s the story of Ursula, a character born in 1910, who dies and is reborn in a continuous loop. Each time Ursula falls foul of life’s lethal traps, she begins again, not remembering her lives before but not quite forgetting them either. Her past deaths leave her with tugging instincts – don’t step there, don’t take his hand, don’t linger – that gradually extend her life and, if well-managed, those of the people she loves.
For Ursula, death waits in all places – in the knot of umbilical cord around a baby’s neck, inside a rolling wave and beneath an open window. Death waits equally in a pandemic and in wartime...

Danny Elfman might be known for composing catchy film and TV scores, but the musician is a rocker at heart. Case in point: His 2022 Coachella set featured a 50-piece string section and a shirtless jam sesh.
“I wasn’t expecting to get such a reaction, and some of the crazy headlines — like, Yahoo said, ’68-year-old Elfman and 20-year-old Eilish make festival history,'” Elfman told Variety, reflecting on his festival performance. “And I just thought that was hilarious, Billie and I being the wunderkind and the elder statesman of Coachella. Stuff like that was priceless in its weird way.”
The Oscar-nominated composer scored hit films like “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Men in Black,” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The longtime Tim Burton collaborator is also currently working on Netflix’s “Wednesday” series.

Trent Reznor linked back up with Danny Elfman to help the famed composer/songwriter recreate a second song from his 2021 album, Big Mess, “Native Intelligence.”
Elfman’s original version of “Native Intelligence” already had some heavy industrial crunch to it, making it a perfect fit for Reznor. The new version boasts some additional instrumentation, but the difference largely comes from Reznor’s lead vocals as he howls the eerie refrain, “Trust me, children, trust me, baby/Taking a bath in cyanide, taking a bath.”

Even after a three-decade Hollywood career that won her an Oscar and two Emmys, Patricia Arquette is still synonymous with “True Romance.” Her role as Alabama Whitman, a call girl who marries a client and ends up tangled in a web of crime after the newlyweds steal a shipment of cocaine, launched Arquette into the mainstream. The cult film’s pop culture status has only grown in the 29 years since its release, as it is now seen as an essential 1990s movie and a perennial inspiration for Instagram Halloween costumes.
The film’s content was shocking to some viewers at the time of its release, particularly due to its excessive violence and abundant pop culture references. Both are trademarks of screenwriter Quentin Tarantino, who was a new filmmaker at the time, having only directed “Reservoir Dogs” when “True Romance was released. Hilarie Burton Morgan offers an antidote to the often lurid true-crime podcasts and shows captivating the culture. The new series True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here, she hosts highlights the emotional impact of tragic events on rural areas. “I’m a huge advocate for small towns,” says the actress, who grew up in Sterling Park, Virginia, before rising to fame in TV’s quaint hamlet of One Tree Hill. “I’m a cheerleader for them because once they’re gone, you can’t get them back.” (Credit: SundanceTV) Now a farm owner in Upstate New York, she hopes the cases covered — including the murder of a fast-food manager in Adel, Georgia — will shine a light on the “specific issues in the judicial system” plaguing nonmetro locales. Not to mention the pain suffered by the victims’ loved ones, the police, and, at times, the wrongfully accused. “I don’t...

Well, that got complicated fast. After two action-heavy instalments bracketed by exhilarating ‘Brace! Brace! Wouldn’t want to end up like Burke – in a body bag, being slid in and out of a torpedo tube every two minutes like a human swanee whistle.
Silva was right; Burke was poisoned. And the chief suspect for his murder is currently… Chief Petty Officer Glover, aka the Coxswain with the dragon tattoo. Experienced crime drama viewers knew that Shaun Evans’ character was entirely too inoffensive and omnipresent not to be suss. He’s lurked fuzzily in the background of every scene since the start,...

Most of the kittens in new Netflix horror series Brand New Cherry Flavor are puppets. Sometimes, however, you need the real thing…like for a scene in which a gang of gatos devour a dead coyote.
“We love cats. So that was a fun day,” series co-creator Nick Antosca tells Den of Geek. “The cats are professional actors. So they do exactly what you tell them and they never mess up a take. That’s a joke.”
Why open a story about a horror series with an anecdote about kittens, you might ask? Because, as the coyote-eating portion of that anecdote might indicate, Brand New Cherry Flavor isn’t your typical kind of horror tale. Based on a novel of the same name from Todd Grimson, the show is set in early ‘90s Hollywood and follows a talented indie filmmaker Lisa Nova (Rosa Salazar) as she does whatever it takes...
