Based on the 2009 Sarah Dessen novel of the same name.
Auden is named after poet W. H. Auden, whose poem "Stop All the Clocks" (also known as Funeral Blues) was recited in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, which starred Andie MacDowell, who plays Auden's mother in Along For the Ride.
The Tally Ho Leah keeps talking about is featured in multiple of Dessen's books, as is Colby. Furthermore, when Leah mentions a performer reciting his grocery list to a drum beat, she refers to a main character of another of Dessen's books, "This Lullaby." Dexter is in a band with a signature song, "The Vegetable Opus."
Skate park scene was filmed at Ogden park in Wilmington Nc
The lock and key necklaces talked about in the first shop scene are a reference to another Sarah Dessen book called Lock and Key.
