Believe it or not but it was Dimple Kapadia who played a good role in Fugly coming into existence. While filmmaker Kabir Sadanand had the script in place for quite some time and was hunting for just the right makers to get it on floors, it was Dimple who formed a connect between Kabir and her son-in-law Akshay Kumar, who eventually went on to back the film. "Dimple and Kabir go back a long way, courtesy the film Tum Milo Toh Sahi that they had done way back in 2010. It didn't do great business at the box office but performances by Dimple and her co-star Nana Patekar were much appreciated. Moreover, those who saw the film found it to be a good sensitive affair. Dimple never forgot that and was in constant touch with Kabir," informs our source. A couple of years later when Kabir was ready with Fugly, he shared it with Dimple.

Kabir has launched his production company called Frog Unlimited [Frog stands for Fultoo Rely On God] and his first assignment starred none other than the King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan. Kabir's next ad will feature cricketers from Srk's Kkr and is for Matrix Cellular. * Entrepreneur ho to Ekta Kapoor jaisi! The Queen of Television, who has proved her credentials by producing several path-breaking films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, is known for making hi-concept films within a stipulated budget. Interestingly, Ekta's next two films - Shor - In The City and Ragini Mms - besides having attention-grabbing concepts, are economically viable propositions as well.

Talk about Nana Patekar and more often than not one expects an on-screen confrontation with him around. He may have mellowed down from his Tiranga and Krantiveer days over the last decade and a half but the fire is still burning in him, though in a far more subtle manner, as can be evidenced in last recent release Tum Milo Toh Sahi. However, now that he is ready to lock horns with Shahid Kapoor in upcoming release Paathshaala, one looks forward to the kind of drama and confrontati...

Thanks to their unconventional content, three movies from completely different genres have got audiences and critics talking despite this being a dull season at the box office due to the Indian Premier League (Ipl) and board exams.'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' (LSD), 'Well Done Abba' and 'Tum Milo Toh Sahi' have managed to stand out.'People are talking about these movies. Box office is a different thing. Commercially, only LSD has done well, but the content of all the three movies has been talked about,' trade analyst Taran Adarsh told Ians.'The makers of all these movies had the courage to be different and say a different story. At the end of the day everything boils down to content and a good story at the box office,' he added.During this dull period with no big budget outings, a slew of gap-fillers were released and among them these three movies garnered positive reactions.

Anjana Sukhani is enjoying the release of Tum Milo Toh Sahi with Dimple Kapadia and Visya Malavade and says she relates well to her character in the movie. "I play a bold Maharashtrian college-going girl who suffers from some kind of inferiority complex," she explains, "I could identify myself with the character because when I was in school and college, I also had an inferiority complex. I was from a middle-class background and when people came in big cars and showed off their clothes, I also started behaving in a way that I wouldn't do otherwise."
Next up for Anjana is Don Seenu, an exciting Tollywood film with Ravi Teja and Shriya Saran and this should be followed by her next Bollywood project Allah Ke Banday with Sharman Joshi, in which she plays a complex character that should finally give her the chance to stretch her screen persona. Love knows no language. Love knows no barriers. Love knows no age. It's this thought that director Kabir Sadanand tries to encapsulate in his second directorial venture Tum Milo Toh Sahi.
Tum Milo Toh Sahi may not be the most amazing take on relationships, but it has several moments that make you experience myriad emotions in those two hours. Especially the portions involving Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia. Having said that, it must be pointed out that the Rehan-Anjana portions are just not captivating. They lack the power to keep you hooked. Yet, the outcome is much better than what's being churned out in the name of cinema and entertainment these days.
Final word? Watch it, especially for veterans like Nana and Dimple, whose stellar act proves that old is gold, indeed!

Film: ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’; Cast: Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Suniel Shetty, Vidya Malvade, Rehan Khan, Anjana Sukhani; Director: Kabir Sadanand; Rating: ** 1/2
Just for the pleasure of watching Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia together, this quaint and sincere look at love across three generations is well worth a ‘dekko’.
Dimple, exuding a warmth that pervades the screen, plays a feisty Parsi woman who isn’t deterred let alone defeated by attempts to dismantle her dream, namely a strategic cafe where Mumbai-wallahs meet like they still do in cafes all over Kolkata for a bit of a brainy pow-wow and buttery pao.
It all adds up. The feisty Parsi lady and the cranky sullen.
