Uncle Lucius is told that Lavinia Tate is investigating their property with plans to buy it on backed taxes. Lucius and Grandpa seem to want to ignore the problem while an upset Tammy confronts Lavinia. She confirms the situation saying that her business manager feels they need the Tarleton property for a community park project. Grandpa finds among his papers a land grant dated 1722 to Sylvester Tarleton, his and Uncle Lucius' great-great-great grandfather. It reads that the men own half the land in the county, including the Tates. Now he, too, confronts Lavinia.
