In a heavy rainstorm a man washes up at the Tarelton's houseboat and Tammy and Grandpa nurse him back to health. He turns out to be Tammy's cousin Cletus Tarleton (Dennis Robertson), an aspiring businessman. Grandpa finds that Cletus is a conniving scoundrel who has cheated some neighbors. Cletus becomes smitten with Gloria Tate and tries to court her. Lavinia sets Cletus up with a meeting with herself and Mr. Brent in hopes of exposing him as a swindler.
It seems the producers felt the absence of Uncle Lucius' character and turned to a younger figure in Cletus. In a backwoods comedy that takes lead from the far superior "The Beverly Hillbillies", you can see parallels to Jethro Bodine. Our introduction to his character wasn't very impressive, however.
