Warning: Spoilers
The producers have gone out of their way to make DCI Jessie James unlikeable.

The rest of her team hate her and regard her as lazy. Jessie James is going through marital turmoil which does not help matters.

As for Sunny and Jessie. It is mutual loathing. I guess the only way for these two is up but not quite yet.

The cold case team identify the body. Slowly some links are made between the disparate band of characters. The house where the body was found in is the key, probably when it was empty and used as a squat.

More importantly Ebele Falade, the short tempered and restaurant owner with a drink problem is the mother of the deceased.

It is still taking its time to get going. It was strange how an experienced DCI did not have the nose to smell that Ebele might had been lying. Sunny spotted it straightaway.

It's not bad, just wish they'd spent more time on the crime.

The team continue to hunt for pieces, despite DCI Jess James asking the team to forget about the case.

It's a solid second episode, with most of the focus on the instant atmosphere and dislike between Sunny and his new boss. Credit to the writers for making Jess so different to Cass, just a shame they made her so loathsome.

There isn't enough of a focus on the new characters, I think they're definitely an interesting bunch, and I am keen to see more of the stories on Jay, Lord Hume and Ebele in particular, why is she so angry?

It's definitely Unforgotten, the formula is there, and the pieces of the puzzle are all there, and waiting to be maneuvered into place, but it's just missing a little bit of focus.

At least we know who the body is.

I think it's going to move up a notch or two.

6/10.

I think this is shaping up. Standard excellent Unforgotten fare in terms of criminal plot, but the introduction of DCI James as an unlikeable replacement for Cassie Stewart is fascinating.

The interaction between the two leads is increasingly hostile and I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out. One minor criticism would be that as a DCI, the new character seems lacking in detective ability. You'd hope, to reach DCI, she would be pretty switched on...perhaps she will shine later?

I still love to see how the crime is linked to seemingly disparate characters and I am looking forward to he denouement in a few weeks time.

is she or isnt she?

Warning: Spoilers
The question is: is DCI James like this because she's reacting to her private life disaster or is this how she will remain? If the latter, the writer is taking a big risk. An officious witch (mustn't use the B word) who cant evolve could kill the appeal of the show. Wait and see!

I get it that having the 'non' Nicola Walker changes the interest in the series, but I suspect-and hope- the writer wants to show us how the character evolves. The way she is played now certainly makes us understand why her husband is wanting out.

Not only her character needs to evolve but also her skills as a DCI. I suspect she'll show us her skills soon enough.
