Repeat of Emmett Washington telling Kevin's sister, Kiesha Williams, that he knows that he needs to tell his wife, Tiffany, the truth about him cheating on Tiffany. Repeat of rapper Dante asking Tiffany how her married life is, and her saying it's good. Repeat of Emmett confessing to Tiffany that he cheated on her with his cook, Dom. Repeat of Tiffany asleep next to Dante afterwards.
Repeat of Kevin & Kiesha's mother, Nina Williams, asking Suede what his intentions are towards Nina's friend and Emmett's mother, Jada Washington. Repeat of Suede insisting that he wants to do right by Jada.
Repeat of Suede finding a lump in Jada's breast, and her saying it's no big deal. Repeat of Jada's doctor telling her it's cancer.
Repeat of Emmett asking Kiesha how she's doing, and her telling him she needs to find an adoptive family for her unborn baby.
Repeat of the ultrasound technician telling Kiesha that her unborn baby is very healthy. Repeat of Kiesha telling the technician that she doesn't want to know the sex of the baby.
At the Williams home, Nina asks Kiesha if she slept O.K. Kiesha says no. Nina warns her it only gets worse as pregnancy progresses. Nina wants her to eat a real meal instead of junk food. Nina tries to impress upon Kevin the importance of making a good foundation for his future now, but Kevin doesn't see it that way. Nina's wife, Dre, claims she has to go to work. Nina doesn't understand why Kevin has to go to school even though he's been suspended.
At the Taylor home, Trig asks why Jake's not in school. Shaad says Jake was suspended because a white girl gave Jake oral sex and posted it on Instagram. Jake claims she didn't. Shaad says she has an OnlyFans account. Trig warns Shaad the girl is probably jailbait. Shaad says he's just the messenger. Shaad tells Jake that white girls are for practice. Trig takes away their videogame controls and tells Jake to go to his room, but Jake says he's got "in-school suspension." Trig tells Shaad to stop smoking and Jake to stop stomping in his house. Jake says it's not Trig's house; it's their brother Reg's house. Trig gets mad at Jake and stares him down. Trig gets mad at Shaad for living there rent-free and not helping out.
Tiffany comes home. Emmett asks her where she's been. She says she's been sleeping with Dante.
Douda tells community organizer Tracy Roxboro that he could funnel millions of dollars to her and her organization once he's gotten the City Council to approve his proposal to defund the police. Trig pushes his way into Douda's office. An F.O.P. representative on TV implies that black people won't like it if all the cops are off the job. Trig comments that some black people are happy with it, but that it's true that a lot of older black people won't be. Tracy says maybe Trig should help her come up with a plan to transition to using police funds for community protection.
Emmett and Tiffany exchange angry, hurt words over betraying each other.
Dre asks Jada's doctor if Jada can take a holistic approach to treating her cancer, but he says the cancer is too aggressive, and wants to start Jada on chemotherapy instead. Jada says she understands. Dre agrees to be Jada's driver to and from treatment. Jada thanks her for keeping the bad news from Nina, because Jada doesn't want to burden Nina or have the news leak back to Emmett.
When Dom comes into work at Smokey's BBQ restaurant, Emmett tells her about him confessing to Tiff. Dom says that's going to be awkward, especially since she and Tiff are trying to get their marijuana edibles business off the ground.
In the front of Smokey's, Stanley "Papa" Jackson is making window signs that say, "Black Owned Business." Emmett doesn't see the need, but Papa tells him that if the protesting in the city gets rough, he wants there to still be a business for Papa to work at.
Douda's wife, Roselyn Perry, advises him that there's a lot involved in trying to overhaul an entire institution, but he thinks he can do it, claiming that Donald Trump did. She says that black politicians can't get away with what Trump did. She asks Marcus to back her up, but Marcus sides more with Douda, saying that if they can solve the problem of racist policing, Chicago would be more likely to get the Olympics. She poses dire hypotheticals, but the two men are undeterred. Marcus does warn Douda that they're getting into high-risk territory, but Douda says it also has high potential rewards.
At Imani's hair salon, her friend Latreece is regaling Imani and D'Nero with a funny story, when Nuck comes in with one of his prostitutes, Trinity, and tells Imani to do Trinity's hair, despite not having an appointment. Imani pulls Trinity aside.
Mr. Cooper, the self-described good-guy white faculty member in charge of Jake & Kevin's in-school suspension/detention, says he'll let them leave if they each write a one-page essay about what happened to them with the police.
Shaad brings supplies to Imani's salon. Nuck greets him as an old friend, and they go out for food. Imani expresses her displeasure with Shaad after they're gone. Imani asks Trinity if she's O.K., but Trinity says no.
Jemma says Kevin's essay is really good. He brushes it off. She wants to interview him for the morning Public Announcements show at school, but he just wants to leave, and does. Jemma asks Jake the same thing.
At a bar, Shaad explains his errand-running at the salon to Nuck as Shaad needing regular employment to report to his parole officer. Nuck disses Imani, and explains to the incredulous Shaad in derogatory terms that Imani is transgender.
Emmett lets himself into Jada's apartment only to be surprised at Jada and Suede being there undressed. Emmett leaves in a huff before he can tell Jada his problems or she can tell Emmett hers.
At a meeting of community group R.O.C.K. (Remembering Our Chicago Kids), Tracy and Trig ask Papa's father, "Pastor Stanley" Jackson to help them organize a resource for people to turn to instead of the police. The pastor addresses the people who have turned out about the need for the community to come together. A middle-aged woman named Feenie says it makes her mad when some black folks kill other black folks. Trig says that it has to start by not pointing fingers, by keeping a lid on violence, and by turning to one another to solve problems. While this is going on, a domestic dispute call comes in, and Tracy answers the phone with, "Community Protection." Trig and Tracy decide that this is going to be their first case.
Imani tells D'Nero and Latreece that Trinity asked for help. D'Nero asks Imani why Imani doesn't get Trig to do something about it.
Trig, Big Mike, and Tracy go to the scene of the domestic dispute, where Cherry and Jamal are throwing things and arguing about Cherry's OnlyFans account. When the couple are separated, Jamal punches Trig. Big Mike draws on Jamal.
Emmett gives Kiesha a plate of free food at the restaurant. Tiff comes in with Tiff & Emmett's boy, EJ, and asks Emmett to look after him while Tiff runs some errands. Tiff leaves, and Emmett has EJ play a video game. Emmett explains to Kiesha that Tiff had revenge sex on him, and his mom is having sex with a guy that Emmett went to high school with. Kiesha's amused that Emmett screwed around his whole life and is now put out that other people aren't behaving the way he wants them to. When Emmett goes to get her some pop, Kiesha looks at EJ, and then looks at her belly.
Tracy talks to Cherry, and points out that Cherry and Jamal are also the legal guardians of Lynae, an underage girl. Tracy says this family needs to get help, but she's not specific about who's going to provide it or how.
Trig tries to talk to Jamal, but Jamal just bristles. Tracy brings out a duffel bag that Cherry packed for Jamal. Jamal grabs it and leaves in a huff. Tracy and Trig ponder if they can really do this job, but they haven't given up yet.
When Trig gets home, Imani tries to treat his injured eye and talk to him about Trinity. Trig says Nuck doesn't work for him. Imani tells Trig to sleep on the couch and to work faster at finding a new place for Shaad.
Jemma and Jake get ready to do her morning Public Announcements show at school. She notices he's wearing cologne. When the camera goes live, she asks him why the armed police saw him as a threat. He says the police act like they don't think Jake cares if he lives or dies, but he says he does care, that he wants a future for himself. Kevin watches the show with impatience on his classroom's monitor.
Marcus and Roselyn discuss the Olympics bid with Douda. Tracy comes in and drops off a report. Roselyn asks how Tracy's going to make the Community Protection organization work with so few people and no training. Tracy says the black neighborhoods are the only ones that need protection. When asked for her opinion on the Olympics, Tracy pours cold water on Marcus & Roselyn's ideas and says that the Olympics will just displace black youth. As the women leave the room, Marcus notices the way Douda looks at Tracy, and tells Douda to be careful.
As Dom is setting up for her & Tiff's marijuana edibles party, she admonishes her boyfriend, Emmett's father, Darnell, to stop eating so many of the free samples. When Tiff arrives, Dom asks her if they're good. Tiff says, yeah, but not to fuck Emmett again.
When the edibles party gets underway, a couple of Tiff's potential customers, Michael and Arnaz, advise Tiff that she could solve her problems with an open relationship like they have. Jada partakes of some of the edible samples and asks Tiff how she and Emmett are doing. Tiff admits to not knowing yet.
Trig and Tracy thank the Community Protection volunteers when their first night is over, but the volunteers are wondering if they have to keep coming in every night. Douda comes in and says that the critics are waiting to see the plan fail, but if the community has his back, he'll have theirs.
Suede helps a stoned Jada home. Emmett offers to take her, but Suede says he's got it covered.
A very high Darnell announces to the edibles party that he doesn't want to be high anymore.
In his room, Kevin texts Jemma, but she doesn't text him back. In the kitchen, Nina sets the table. In her room, Kiesha cries, holds her abdomen, and sits on the floor. In another room, Dre gives sotto voce moral support to Jada over the phone. Nina calls everyone to dinner, and she says grace.
After the edibles party, Tiffany broaches the idea of an open marriage to Emmett. He says O.K, but doesn't sound so sure.
After a nightcap back at Douda's place, he and Tracy start to have sex. Roselyn comes in and says she likes to watch, so Douda and Tracy continue.
