Repeat of Chicago Police Officer Reeves asking Jake for his ID, Jake walking away, and Officer Reeves throwing Jake to the ground and punching him over and over. Repeat of Maisha recording the attack with her phone. Repeat of Officer Reeves' partner, Officer Vaughn, pulling a gun on Kevin and ordering him to the ground. Repeat of Imani warning Trig that Officer Reeves was about to be jogging near him so that Trig could ambush Reeves and beat him up.
Emmett dreams about his wife, Tiffany, coming after him with a knife and talking about him having sex with Dom. In the real world, Tiffany wakes him up.
Kevin's mom, Nina Williams, and Nina's wife, Dre, complain about him being absorbed by his phone and coming home drunk and high. Nina takes away his devices and wonders why he's not excited about touring college campuses. Kevin wants Kiesha to have her baby so things can go back to normal, but Dre warns that if she doesn't find an adoptive family, they're going to have another mouth to feed.
Suede wants to know why Jada won't let him go with her to her high-school reunion. She's afraid people will think less of her for bringing a younger man along.
Trig flashes back to Jake in the hospital, to beating Reeves up, and to Reeves beating Jake up. Imani tries to talk him out of his funk.
Emmett is distant with Tiff during breakfast. He's worried about her having an appointment to sell weed at a recording studio with a dangerous reputation. She says the rapper she's meeting up with is a woman, and that calms him down.
Jake packs a suitcase, sparing the hand that's still bandaged, to go on a college tour. A box of condoms falls out. Imani says she put them there just as a precaution. Trig asks if he's feeling up to going, and says he doesn't have to be strong all the time. Jake says that yes, they do.
On the bus to the college tour, Jemma tries to record a video of her and Kevin saying what they're going to study at college, but he doesn't know and isn't enthused. He startles as a police car with the siren on drives by. Kevin asks Jake how his arm is. Jake says it's practically healed to Kevin, but then says it'll take months to heal when a white girl, Dakota, sits down and asks the same question. She comes on to him and says that black lives will always matter to her.
Kiesha works at a second-hand shop with an overbearing manager. Kiesha runs into an acquaintance, Syd, who asks her how she's doing and notices her pregnancy.
Douda reviews Officer Reeves' body-cam footage of Reeves attacking Jake and wonders why the D.A. hasn't acted on it yet. Roselyn says these things take time. Jemma's father, Marcus St. John, intimates that Douda's gangster past shouldn't influence him now that Douda is mayor. Douda backs both him and Roselyn off and goes into Officer Reeves' hospital room.
Douda has words with the white Officer Reeves in Reeves' hospital room about the latter's long record of run-ins with black boys. Reeves insists he's done nothing wrong, and thinks Douda was the one who had him beaten up.
Reporters and protesters are outside the hospital when Douda leaves. Reporters ask about the body-cam footage and about looting. Douda replies that people are more valuable than property, and that Officer Reeves is no longer on the police force.
Maisha tells Stanley "Papa" Jackson that he's not going to be able to keep the noise near his bedroom from interfering with his podcast. He says that he can't afford a studio. She says he could if Emmett paid him his wages from Smokey's restaurant under the table. Papa says he doesn't want to mess up Emmett just as Emmett is getting his act together. Papa's having trouble moving on from the police attacking Jake and Kevin. Maisha says that maybe talking about it on his new podcast will help. She asks Papa who his first guest will be. He says commentator/lawyer Van Jones. She laughs.
Trig's friend Shared/Shaad gets released from prison. Trig picks him up and tosses him a roll of cash.
Roselyn and Marcus listen to pundits on TV talking about Douda firing Reeves. Douda comes in, but isn't bothered by criticism. Marcus is bothered because he's afraid that controversy will cost Chicago the Olympics. That's not Douda's concern. Roselyn's afraid that firing more cops will draw deadly attention down on Douda, but that just makes Douda madder.
As Jemma and Kevin tour a college campus, she talks about the trade-offs between getting one or more degrees and carrying student loan debt. Kevin doesn't want to listen.
Elsewhere on campus, Jake and Dakota have sex in a restroom.
Emmett and Darnell visit the second-hand shop. Emmett tells Kiesha that he's ready to take her advice and tell Tiff the truth about him cheating on Tiff. He asks how Kiesha's doing and says he's there for her.
Kevin and Jake meet up on the college campus. Jake gives Kevin some money to bet playing against some college students at a video game in a lounge.
Tiffany meets up with her male weed customer, Dante.
Douda calls an impromptu press conference. He says he's going to defund the police, and then takes no questions.
Papa is surprised that Van Jones hasn't arrived to be on his podcast, nor has he responded to Papa's messages. Maisha says it's because he's scheduled to appear on the talk show "Red Table Talk."
Emmett keeps hearing Darnell in his head as he's having sex with Tiffany. When he talks back out loud, Tiffany wonders what's wrong with Emmett. He confesses that he fucked Dom. Tiff leaves.
Trig and Imani are throwing a surprise party for Shaad. Trig tells Imani that Shaad's going to be staying at their place for a while because Trig owes Shaad for the prison time he did. Imani's unhappy at this news.
Nina, Dre, Jada, Suede, and Darnell attend Nina, Jada, and Darnell's Class of '98 high-school reunion. No one told Jada that the dress-up theme of the 1975 movie "Cooley High" was called off, so they're the only ones in 1975 costumes and hair. Jada finds out that Suede used to be with Jada's old frenemy Monique, which pisses Jada off.
Kevin wins money on the video games. The white kid he beats talks him into trying molly, which Kevin chases with beer. Then the kid he beat asks for a rematch. Later, Jemma finds Kevin and wants to know if he's drunk. A chaperone wants to know too. Kevin vomits.
Since Van Jones didn't show up, Maisha offers to freestyle a rap about her life for Papa's podcast. Papa's blown away by her performance.
While dancing at the reunion, Nina asks Suede if he's going to make Jada happy or if he's just messing around. He says he's playing straight with Jada.
Tiffany goes back to Dante and has revenge sex with him.
A couple of white cops try to arrest Man Man for loitering. Trig comes outside and protests. The cops draw their guns on Man Man. Trig tells everyone who has gathered around to take out their phones and record what's going on. The cops give up and go away. Trig takes Man Man home.
Kiesha has picked Kevin up after he got thrown off the college tour, and chews him out as he vomits at home.
White cops driving by Douda give him an insolent look.
Roselyn tells Douda she didn't sign up for the kind of trouble he's getting into. He says she did.
While making love, Suede discovers a lump in Jada's breast. She says she's gotten it checked out before, and it's not a problem, but she'll get it checked out again.
The Williams household goes out to Kiesha's ultrasound appointment.
Tiff's asleep in Dante's bed the next morning. Emmett looks for her to return home.
The ultrasound technician says Kiesha's baby is very healthy.
Jada's doctor says the lump in her breast is cancer, and he needs to run some more tests.
Kiesha tells the ultrasound technician she doesn't want to know the baby's sex.
