- Quotes
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus! Well, who's your little friend here?
Agent Double-00: I'm Agent Double-00, of Her Majesty's secret service.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Double-00? Isn't that just triple 0?
Agent Double-00: No, that's not how it's said.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: It spells "ooo", doesn't it?
Agent Double-00: It's "Double-00"!
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: He's "P" and you're "ooo", so together, you spell...
Agent Double-00: No, they're not "O"s, they're zeroes, alright?
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: I was just gonna say "ooop". Looks like I struck a nerve there!
- ConnectionsReferences Star Trek (1966)
Loved both episodes on first watch, and still do with both getting even better on each rewatch. While both are about equal in overall quality, there is a slight preference for "Elementary, My Dear Stacy" which executes a great premise with freshness (although Sherlock Holmes-style mystery is not novel in animation, not many episodes for anything do it while centering around a formula. Both "Day of the Living Gelatin" and "Elementary, My Dear Stacy" are unique in setting and far from waste them.
The animation is bright and colourful, with such vibrant colours that literally pop out at you and beautifully detailed backgrounds and slick transitions. There is even a good deal of atmosphere in "Elementary, My Dear Stacy". The music is in the style that is not usually my style of choice when listening to music, but it is very catchy and pleasant to listen to. The theme song is irresistible with a melody that sticks in the head for days without being an earworm and with very quotable lyrics. Some nice visuals accompanying it too.
Furthermore, the writing is on point in both episodes. Both episodes being very witty in a razor sharp and equally intelligent way, some great referential humour in "Day of the Living Gelatin" and a real smartness in "Elementary, My Dear Stacy". Doofenschmirtz's dialogue in both episodes is hilariously goofy. The storytelling is beautifully paced, with non stop energy without being too manic this time, and are always lots of fun and engaging. "Day of the Living Gelatin" is not near as excessively silly as it could have been and neither feel repetitive, also liked that the main plots and Doofenschmirtz subplots actually connect together in both episodes.
All the character writing is without problem. Phineas and Ferb are likeable and resourceful, Doofenschmirtz is very funny in his kookiness, Perry's reactions and expressions tell so much (especially in the James Bond-like subplot for "Elementary, My Dear Stacy") and Candace and Stacy interact so well together. The voice acting is very good all round.
Concluding, wonderful. 10/10
