Sorry to the new Futurama, Rugrats and whatever other beloved animated series is getting a reboot next, but according to cartoon fans, you’ll never beat Beavis and Butt-Head.
When a room full of studio executives decides to revive a beloved and nostalgic franchise that hasn’t been touched in decades, the reboot is simultaneously a safe move from a business standpoint and a creative risk that can ruin all the longstanding goodwill that the suits are about to turn into easy dollar signs. This is especially apparent in animation, wherein the nature of the medium allows showrunners to bring back all the original characters and acting talent that made the show’s first run a success without having to delve into the uncanny valley with awful de-aging technology, while the fanbases for animated shows somehow tend to be the most passionate, opinionated and hostile to change of any internet following.

Three decades after they were first introduced in the short film “Frog Baseball” and almost a dozen years after the first revival of their eponymous MTV show concluded, cartoon characters Beavis and Butt-Head returned for a Paramount Plus reboot series in August 2022. Whether it will continue past its first two seasons has yet to be decided, but it certainly has been well-received, as was the 2022 TV movie “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.” At this point in the “Beavis and Butt-Head” franchise’s existence, no entry has ever attracted the attention of Emmy voters, but the time is right for that to change.
“Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe,” which dropped on Paramount Plus six weeks before the new series premiered, serves as a sequel to the 1996 theatrical film “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.” The plot revolves around the titular teenage dullards traveling through time and coming into contact with...

With too much television, viewing every piece of content that is up for consideration for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations is impossible. With 163 drama series, 95 comedies, 51 limited or anthologies and 61 television movies, every TV-goer has their tastes.
Variety staffers have come together to curate its own dream Primetime Emmys ballot, with voting set to close at 10 p.m. Pt tonight.
However, it should be noted — we love consistency, especially in TV land.
With our selections, we want to continue to promote (and advocate) for the Television Academy to allow 10 nominees in the top series categories. In addition, we would love to see uniformity in the acting races or a performer felt like a leading entry as opposed to a supporting, then we recognized as such. We also combined all of the reality, variety and documentary into each of their respective races. Not every type of show needs its own category.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

The wolf pack is hoping for Emmys love.
“Teen Wolf: The Movie,” Paramount+’s adaptation of the MTV supernatural-thriller series, has been submitted for the Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding television movie, Variety has learned exclusively.
Moreover, the streamer also submitted the film in five other categories: lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie (Tyler Posey), directing (Russell Mulcahy), writing, prosthetic makeup and original music and lyrics (“Lemon” by Tyler Posey). This provides Posey, who plays the True Alpha werewolf Scott and produces the film, three chances for recognition.

When it was first announced that Paramount+ was rebooting Mike Judge's beloved animated series, "Beavis and Butt-Head," fans of the original series were rightfully concerned that bringing everyone's favorite MTV buffoons into the current era was a recipe for disaster. And yet, after the wildly successful "Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe," Judge effortlessly incorporated his horny, mouth-breathing, lovable losers into the 2020s.
The first season of the "Beavis and Butt-Head" reboot was, quite honestly, the absolute best possible outcome. The structure of the series didn't change at all, instead evolved to better reflect our current times. The characters still end up in nonsensical adventures like getting trapped in a bathroom thinking it's part of an escape room (or enacting revenge on some raccoons for eating their nachos) and still have the interspersed asides of commenting on whatever is on TV. Instead of focusing primarily on music videos as...

Mike Judge as the voice of Butt-Head and Beavis in Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head streaming on Paramount+, 2022. With all of the TV shows and characters that have been resurrected lately, it seemed almost inevitable that possibly the most famous TV comedy duo of the ’90s would return. And now, it has happened: Beavis and Butt-Head are back! Mike Judge has often said he’s more proud of Beavis and Butt-Head than anything else he’s done, so the warmly received return has been a fun one for him. When we spoke to Judge about the iconic characters, he explained how he came up with their instantly recognizable voices. (Click...

This article contains Beavis and Butt-Head spoilers.
It seems weird to put a spoiler alert on an article about Beavis and Butt-Head, but then again nothing about the pair’s success has been expected. After debuting 30 years ago in Mike Judge’s animated short “Frog Baseball,” the troublesome teens first found fame when that cartoon was aired on MTV’s legendary animation anthology Liquid Television. A spinoff quickly ensued, and the rest is pop culture history.
On the heels of the recent — and excellent — feature film Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, the guys are back in a new series that is now streaming on Paramount+. But there’s a twist. Continuing on from the events of the recent movie, the pair are now living in 2022….as are their fortysomething colleagues from the original series, still as demented as ever.
Furthermore the “smart” versions of the characters make a return in this revival series.

On the heels of the recent — and excellent — feature film Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, the guys are back in a new Paramount+ series that debuts today. But there’s a twist. Continuing on from the events of the movie, the pair are now living in 2022….as are their fortysomething colleagues from the original series, still as demented as ever..
Furthermore the “smart” versions of the characters make a return in this revival series.

When we last left Beavis and Butt-Head, the animated teenage miscreants from Highland, Texas who dominated MTV for much of the ’90s, they were plunked down in 2022, thanks to the wormhole that powered the sci-fi plotting of June’s Paramount+ movie “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.” “Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head,” a nominal follow-up to that movie and de facto ninth season of the TV show that inspired it, makes no specific mention of this — though based on some small technological details (and the streaming content they consume), the boys have indeed remained in our time. In the first two episodes of this new season, it doesn’t look much different from their time. Beavis and Butt-Head have a tendency to mold their environment in their image. Or are they just so timelessly American that surprisingly little adaptation is necessary? Are we in the same collective stasis as...

Thirty years ago, an obscure Texas filmmaker named Mike Judge created the animated short Frog Baseball, in which two heavy metal-obsessed teenagers named Beavis and Butt-Head brutalize an amphibian with a baseball bat. It didn’t seem like anything especially brilliant at the time, especially since it ends with them viciously attacking a poodle, but it somehow gave birth to one of the most beloved shows in MTV history.

Mike Judge has no interest in Beavis and Butt-Head riding on the coattails of nostalgia. He wants his new Paramount+ series to stand on its own, with excellent (and hilarious) storytelling.
The second revival of the popular cartoon starring two dimwitted teen boys (both voiced by Judge) will arrive Aug. 4 on Paramount+. Just like the original ’90s MTV show — beloved by teens and hated by their parents — Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head will mock videos in between stories, but with a twist. In addition to music videos, the buffoonish duo will also poke fun at viral content from YouTube and TikTok, à la Tosh.0.
For Judge, that was an important aspect of bringing the series into 2022, where Beavis and Butt-Head have changed slightly (Hey, they upgraded to a flat-screen TV!), but remain those classic, hopeless losers, who spout nonsense while getting into one ill-advised situation after another.

No American storyteller has scrutinized stupidity like Mike Judge. Ever since “Beavis and Butt-Head” launched on MTV in the Clinton era and lasted seven seasons, Judge’s chuckling, puerile teenagers have remained his most iconic creation, even as he widened his oeuvre to tackle many more targets with the likes of “King of the Hill,” “Office Space,” “Idiocracy,” and “Silicon Valley.”
Among those, only “Beavis and Butt-Head” has continued to make a comeback, first with new episodes produced in 2011, and now with a busy summer that includes both the new feature-length “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” and “Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head,” both of which are out now on Paramount+.
In the movie, the two morons travel from the ’90s to the present day; they remain there for the new episodes, as their signature couch commentary now applies to online videos and social media. In a few episodes,...

Beavis and Butt-Head are coming back to TV… again. Following the June release of their first-ever movie, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, the all new Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head lands August 4 on Paramount+. Show creator Mike Judge chatted with TV Insider about the upcoming series at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, and he says some of his favorite moments they’ve ever made for the animated comedy are coming up in the newest installation. Beavis and Butt-Head has stood the test of time. The original series ran from 1993 to 1997 on MTV, and then came back briefly in 2011. The King of the Hill creator thinks the show has lived on for 30 years because the characters are universally relatable. “I think they’re very pure characters,” he tells TV Insider. “Even when it came out, it wasn’t super hip of its time. At the time it came on MTV, the...

Judge, who created MTV’s Beavis and Butt-Head in the 1990s, sat down with moderator Paul Scheer for a panel Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss what fans can expect when the new series launches Aug. 4. Cue the chuckling. Cue classic ’90s theme. And, of course, cue the fire because Beavis and Butt-Head are back with an all-new series.
The first look at Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head on Paramount+ has arrived, and it starts with a bang — or should that be flame?
Introduced at San Diego Comic-Con during the series’ panel Thursday night, the story in the clip from the episode titled “The Special One,” revolves around Beavis happening upon a dumpster fire, which transforms into an entity that gives the bonehead teen orders. But instead of telling him to destroy or wreak havoc, the flame entity has him do positive activities, like run a mile for some exercise and then clean up the alleyway. The final ask is just too much for Beavis, and he finally has to turn his back on his obsession.

“Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head” — a continuation of the cartoon franchise and the show’s first original episodes in more than 10 years — will premiere on Paramount+ beginning Aug. 4.

The show’s trailer depicts the iconic characters in their signature AC/DC and Metallica T-shirts getting into a wide variety of foolhardy shenanigans, like angering a beehive and ruining a Mummy exhibit.

“Beavis and Butt-Head” are back on TV. A revival of the classic ’90s MTV animated series is set to premiere on Paramount+ on Aug. 4, the streamer announced Thursday. In addition, the streamer revealed a first trailer for the series, which can be watched below.
Created and voiced by Mike Judge in 1992 for the MTV animated anthology series “Liquid Television,” Beavis and Butt-Head are two teenage slackers who share an extreme libido and complete inability to attract women. The characters proved popular enough to launch their own spinoff series, which ran for 200 episodes across seven seasons. The show sees the pair embark on various half-baked schemes, as well as mock contemporary music videos that aired on MTV. The series launched another popular spin-off series “Daria,” starring the character voiced by Tracy Grandstaff, and was revived for an extra season on MTV in 2011.

When director Mike Judge was working on “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” (now streaming on Paramount+), it was only fitting he call composer John Frizzell to work on the score. Judge needed the film’s music to reflect the emotional and physical journey the duo would embark on. To accomplish that, Frizzell recorded an epic score with a 69-piece orchestra in Vienna.
In the new film, Beavis and Butt-Head wind up at space camp through “creative sentencing” from a juvenile court judge in 1998. Mistaking a docking simulator for something else. It’s been 26 years since “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” landed in theaters at the peak of the animated idiots’ popularity. Of course, it was a box office hit. If you were around at the time, then you know what a big deal it was. A lot has changed since then, but, in some ways, very little has changed. “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe,” the puerile pairing’s second full-length feature, premieres on Paramount+ ahead of a new series that will land on the streamer this fall.

“Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” is only the second Beavis and Butt-Head movie — after “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America,” which came out (are you ready to feel old?) in 1996. That’s a long time to put a franchise about the world’s dumbest, horniest, and most meta teenage metal-heads on hold. But I’m not sure that the world was clamoring for another Beavis and Butt-Head movie, and this one isn’t exactly the “Top Gun: Maverick” of B & B-Head sequels. It is, however, a shaggy, snark-infused lark that’s likable enough to get by. The first movie, amusing as some of it was, never found the cultural foothold that “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” did, and the reason is that Beavis and Butt-Head were most at home on their MTV series, a form that mirrored their fractured attention spans — and that allowed them, of course, to critique music videos,...

Nothing will top “Top Gun: Maverick” this summer in its profound ability to please a rabid fanbase, but second place now has a strong contender with “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.” Arriving on Paramount+ more than 25 years after the iconic teen morons got their first feature-length production (pause and reflect on how very old you are; now consider that “Do America” made a staggering 63 million at the box office), the film likely won’t create throngs of new devotees, but even casual fans will adore it. The film delivers on its promise — it is indeed a Beavis and Butt-Head film, though it doesn’t quite “do” the entire “universe” — in a way that’s both

Jake Gyllenhaal will lead the voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ next film, a journey to an alien planet called “Strange World” from “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Big Hero 6” director Don Hall, and Disney on Monday released the first teaser trailer for the new film.
The teaser is a campy, retro newsreel style look at the film that even starts in a sepia tone and tells audiences to “prepare themselves for a journey beyond what is possible.”
Jake Gyllenhaal in “Strange World” lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission.
