- Tensions rise between Benjamin Hornigold and Henry Jennings; their rivalry takes a new direction when Hornigold declares Nassau a pirate republic.
- Nassau benefited from the Pirate bonanza. There was a fort there, people stayed and build a community. Nassau became a boom town on pirate wealth. It attracted more and more pirates, who started their own economy. A lot of demand for people working in taverns, sex workers, and a serious spike in prostitution.
Black Caeser (Miles Yekinni) is Edward's sidekick and was a slave. Anne Bonny is just 16 years old and is Irish. Her father was a lawyer in Cork, and her mother was a maid with whom he was having an affair. Anne grew up as an outsider, a bastard. She came to Nassau to fish for the Spanish shipwrecks and was guided to Hornigold. James Bonny (George Watkins) is Anne's husband who is only interested in making money.
Hornigold is losing authority on his own crew ever since Jennings stole his ship. Meanwhile Jennings reaches Port Royal in Jamaica and finds that Hamilton is livid. The Spanish have complained against the British and Jennings's name is mentioned. The contract was only to hunt the pirates and not Spanish. Spanish demanded that Jennings is arrested and that the stolen treasure is returned. Jennings and his crew return to sea, leaving Hamilton to deal with the Spanish. Jennings intends to attack Hornigold's pirate ships out of Nassau.
In Apr 1716, Paulsgrave and Bellamy are searching for the Spanish wrecks. Back in Cape Cod, Mary is pregnant after having had sex with Bellamy. This is a very strict religious society and will not tolerate any kind of premarital sex. Mary's father has kicked her out. If Bellamy doesn't find the treasure, his new family will spend their life in poverty. Paulsgrave and Bellamy spot a English merchant ship and hoist the black flag of piracy. Bellamy believes that merchant captains treat sailors worse than the navy and hence has no sympathy for them. His pirates don't kill the sailors.
But, as luck would have it, Jennings spots Bellamy's ship looting an English merchant. Bellamy has a small, and sleek sloop and is able to outrun Jennings's large ship and stays out of range of its cannons. But later, Jennings finds a French merchant ship with cannons. Usually, cannons were deployed to protect Gold. Since the treaty of 1714, French and English are no longer enemies, but Jennings discards the treaty. Jennings waits for nightfall to launch an attack with his fleet. The French ship, the St. Marie, is just off the coast off Cuba.
Back in Nassau, Thomas Walker wants to arrest Hornigold, so as to avoid Spanish wrath for stealing their treasure. In reality, Walker was afraid that once the war ended, the British would lose interest in the Bahamas, and he did not want to share Nassau with Hornigold. In addition Thomas Barrow (Moneer Elmasseek), a crew member of Hornigold mutinies against him saying that he has lost respect as Jennings sailed away with his ship. In response, Hornigold announces his intention to hunt for Jennings and orders the ships to be readied for departure.
Meanwhile, off Cuba, Jennings is being watched by Bellamy and Paulsgrave. They reckon Jennings is a fellow Pirate and approach him. They offer to loot the St. Marie for Jennings. Jennings agrees as the whole risk is taken by Paulsgrave and Bellamy. Bellamy and Paulsgrave strip themselves naked and cover themselves with weapons. They attack the St. Marie as psychopathic pirates and generate naked terror. The entire French ship surrenders. Jennings tortures the French captain to find the location of a 2nd French ship, the Marianne, 30 miles to the North. Bellamy is appalled by Jennings's torture tactics and vows not to use them.
Jennings sends Paulsgrave and Bellamy to take the Marianne, but they find that Hornigold already has the Marianne in his control. Bellamy and Paulsgrave meet Hornigold. They return to Jennings and report that Hornigold already took the Marianne. Jennings's crew spots 2 ships on the horizon and Jennings goes after them thinking it is Hornigold. He leaves Paulsgrave and Bellamy with the St. Marie. Hornigold outruns Jennings, who returns to the St. Marie and finds that the ship has been stripped of all treasure.
Hamilton is arrested by the British Crown for Jennings's actions against the Spanish. Jennings arrives in Nassau to confront Hornigold. At Nassau, Jennings learns that Hamilton has been arrested, and there is a warrant for his own arrest. Jennings now needs Hornigold to give him refuge in Nassau. In that moment Hornigold comes up with the charter for pirates. All wealth to be shared equally, a small bonus for the captain. No crew to be punished without the agreement of the majority of the crew. Captain can be replaced with a democratic vote. Hornigold has created a democratic republic of Nassau. All the pirates side with Hornigold and Jennings is forced to retreat.
