Like recent horror hit Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Mean One is another buzzy slasher mixing mirth, murder and all-out action in equal measure, as the townsfolk decide to take on the green meanie with all the weapons they can lay their hands on. Release plans for the survival thriller No Way Up have not yet been announced, but Altitude has gone ahead and shared a trailer for the film, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Claudio Fäh (Northmen: A Viking Saga) from a screenplay by Andy Mayson, No Way Up is a high concept combination of disaster movie and survival thriller, as characters from very different backgrounds are thrown together when the plane they’re travelling on crashes into the Pacific Ocean. The stricken airliner comes to rest perilously close to the edge of a bottomless ravine with the surviving passengers and crew trapped in an air pocket. With their air supply rapidly running out, a nightmare fight for survival ensues as dangers from all sides hone-in on them.

The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.
Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”
Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”
That exciting tidbit not only highlights that music will be prominent to this rock horror story, but it’s 2003 eschews the conventional ’80s hair metal movement frequently explored in this niche subgenre. I suppose the real question at this point is just how...

The total U.K. and Ireland box office for June 2023 was £90.3 million ($114.8 million), 28% lower than June 2022, according to numbers released by Comscore.
Year-to-date 2023 is currently running 7% behind the same period in 2022, the numbers reveal.
The territory is very much weather-driven and June 2023 was the hottest June since records began, per the U.K. Met Office, meaning that potential cinema audiences spent a larger proportion of their leisure time outdoors.
June’s highest-grossing film was Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” with £26.7 million, which comfortably surpassed the lifetime total of its predecessor, “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” (£10.8 million). The animated sequel is currently the third-biggest release of the year so far.
Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” occupied second position with £25.4 million and is the fifth-biggest release of the year so far, and is poised to cross “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” (£25.8 million).

Oscar winning documentary producer is at Sheffield DocFest with Chris Smith’s ‘Wham’ and Sundance hit The Deepest Breath.
Ventureland co-founder John Battsek knew the chance to tell a postive, upbeat story about the UK 1980s pop band Wham! could very well appeal to sought-after young audiences.
Wham! , directed by the US’ Chris Smith, was one of two new films with which the Oscar-winning documentary producer was at Sheffield DocFest in the UK last week. The other was Laura McGann’s Sundance hit, The Deepest Breath, about Italian freediving champion Alessia Zecchini, which was acquired by Netflix late last year.

When Marty Stuart was growing up in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the Ellis Theater downtown could practically qualify as his second home. He watched the 1969 film Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music in the old movie house, and lived to tell the Man in Black about it after joining his band in 1980.
But today, with decades of success in Nashville to his credit — first as a sideman to bluegrass legend Lester Flatt, then Cash, and finally as a bandleader in his own right — Stuart has reclaimed the 500-seat venue in...

When Annie Blackman was 13, she met Taylor Swift. It was the fall of 2011, and like countless middle schoolers, she’d been listening all year to Speak Now, marveling at perfectly phrased darts like “Dear John” and “Mean.”
“I started the whole music journey as a big Taylor Swift girl,” Blackman, 24, says over coffee at a Bushwick, Brooklyn cafe. “I remember she wrote that album entirely by herself. There was this obtainability to it: ‘Oh my God. She got successful by just writing her own music.’”
So when Swift closed out the U.

Given the quality or lack thereof, of most of his later career output it seemed almost pointless to hope that he would go out on a high note, working with Jesse V. Are non-fiction films easier to finance and produce in 2020?
Some of the buzziest projects in production in the UK right now are non-fiction: Altitude’s untitled Princess Diana documentary, directed by Ed Perkins and produced by Lightbox, the team behind Man On Wire; Embankment’s untitled Queen Elizabeth documentary directed by Roger Michell; and a new Alex Ferguson documentary produced by DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Ventureland’s John Battsek, which will aim for a theatrical release in 2021.
More and more companies are embracing non-fiction work during the pandemic.

Director Darren Lynn Bousman's latest horror film is titled Abattoir. This title recently had a screening at the La Film Festival, with a showing at the Arclight Culver City coming up. This haunted house thriller involves a home, which has been constructed from crime scenes. Each room in this house has had one murder take place inside. The film stars Jessica Lowndes (Altitude) as Julia, a real estate investigator. And, the film's second movie clip is hosted here. The clip shows Julia talking with several other characters. Each character reveals something more about this murder house. Several tragedies have taken place in this residence and each sounds worse than the last. Fans of well constructed stories, or of Bousman's earlier work (Saw III, Saw IV) will like what is revealed below. Though, Abattoir looks very different from Bousman's typical horror works. More on the film is available below. Release Date: 2016. Director: Darren Lynn Bousman.

Next Tuesday, David Robert Mitchell's It Follows comes out on Blu-ray from Anchor Bay Entertainment, RADiUS, and Dimension, and we caught up with composer Richard Vreeland, aka Disasterpeace, to discuss his superb score for the horror film.
I understand that writer/director David Robert Mitchell asked you to compose the music for It Follows after he played the 2012 video game Fez, which you also scored. How did he reach out to you and what were your initial thoughts about being offered to score a horror film?
Disasterpeace: David reached out by e-mail. I had a lot of thoughts! I had never scored a feature before, so I was excited about the opportunity, but also wanted to be really discerning before making such a big decision. It was tough to make a decision just based on the script, especially for something as unusual as It Follows' premise, but seeing...

The halls are starting to hum softly here in Berlin as the European Film Market swings into gear. The first deals were announced yesterday before the event officially opened, with The Weinstein Co notably boarding Im Global’s The Man Who Made It Snow. This morning, FilmNation unveiled a series of offshore output deals for titles from Open Road, which will kick off with the Jamie Foxx/Michelle Monaghan-starrer Sleepless Nights.
Though it’s not likely to be a frenzy, and with currency concerns in the market internationally, Berlin should see more action in the coming days. Distributors are looking for product for 2016 and beyond, and some memorable buys have emerged here in recent years. In 2014, The Weinstein Company made a record-setting $7M deal for The Imitation Game which has now made about $140M worldwide and has an armful of Oscar nominations to boot.

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Sinister Cinemas and Raven Banner Entertainment. Director: Kaare Andrews. Writer: Jake Wade Wall. Cast: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton and Jillian Murray. Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero was originally developed as a prequel. This film would be the first in the franchise, followed by Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002) and Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). Later, the script was reworked and the film is the second sequel in the franchise. And really, this is a standalone film as this title has only the loosest connections with the previous two films. This second sequel uses several standard indie horror features, which will be recognizable to most fans. However, actor Sean Astin as Porter offers a few deadly surprises along the way. Also, a few slower moments threaten to derail the momentum of the film,...

It starts off with a scene that will come to mean more as the series wears on and which calls back to the second straight to DVD From Dusk Till Dawn sequel Hangman’s Daughter which dealt with the origins of Salma Hayek’s Santanico Pandemonium head vampire character. After this we are back in sort of familiar territory with Don Johnson playing a suitably grizzled and weary Texas Ranger Earl McGraw on the look out for the Gecko Brothers who are on the lam and headed for Mexico.
Basically when it comes down to it, From Dusk Till Dawn is like a faithful adaptation of the original novel that the first film was based on if that were the case and it wasn’t an early Tarantino script. So...

I really really wanted to enjoy this film. I did. Im pulling for the man in the directors chair. I found a very strange degree of satisfaction from Kaare Andrews 2010 effort Altitude (I know the general consensus is that the movie sucked an epically large golf ball and Ill admit it wasnt a perfect piece of work by any stretch) and I thought his work in ABCs of Death was solid (he handled the V for Vagitus segment). It shouldnt come as a surprise that I anticipated an extremely gnarly addition to the mans rsum. Forward momentum seemed inevitable for Andrews. And Sean Astin is attached for heavens sake Im heartbroken to say that we just didnt get the revolting prize that could have been. Its not here.

Mainstream horror has shifted from gore to ghosts and found footage in the past few years, but there's still room for a good old fashioned splatter film here and there. Image Entertainment has acquired "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero," the third film in the horror franchise started by Eli Roth's cult classic "Cabin Fever." Directed by Kaare Andrews ("Altitude," "The ABCs of Death"), the film follows a group of friends enjoying a bachelor weekend in a yacht on the Caribbean. Because these things never go well, they find a remote island and stumble upon an abandoned research facility, where a deadly flesh-eating virus waits for them. They then have to find an uninfected survivor, "Patient Zero," in order to survive. The film stars Sean Astin ("The Lord of the Rings"), Currie Graham (Pompeii), Ryan Donowho (Soldiers of Fortune"), Mitch Ryan ("One Tree Hill"), and Jillian Murphy ("Bad Ass"), and follows...

I distinctly remember the hype surrounding the release of the original Cabin Fever movie – written and directed by then newcomer Eli Roth, the film was touted as a new breed of horror, made for genre fans by a genre fan. I also remember when the film was eventually released there was somewhat of a backlash, after all it wasn’t much more than a mix of backwoods horror and “melt movie”. But the film did well enough to warrant a sequel which, after wrangles between director Ti West (House of the Devil) and the films producers – who re-edited the film to such an extent that West disowned the movie, was released in 2009. Slammed by even those who loved the original film, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever...
