If you follow Stallone on his official social media accounts, from time to time, you may get a glimpse of pieces he’s been working on. Or maybe just past works that he was keen to share. Hollywood writers have some notes after Mattel revealed its Barbie Women in Film toy line for the annual “Career of the Year” collection.

Netflix’s series, The Chosen One is all about a young kid discovering he has divine powers. The deeply religious people of his town soon declared him the next Jesus Christ and sought him out for miraculous solutions. Set in the late 1990s, the show trudges through genres like fantasy fiction and coming-of-age drama with elements of superhero storytelling. We have come across many shows and movies that cover all the above genres and provide a fresh perspective on varied stories. Here is a list of shows and movies that you can watch if you enjoyed watching The Chosen One.
Stranger Things (2016)
This 2016 horror-science-fiction drama changed the course of how stories in this genre came to be approached. Set in the 1980s, a bunch of kids come across a mute girl named Eleven and use her help to find their friend Will, who has been kidnapped by the creatures from Upside Down.

The Chosen One could be Netflix’s most interesting coming-of-age fantasy show after Stranger Things. Both shows had kids at the center of the plot, with a few adults helping them reach their final goal. In The Chosen One, there were only a few adults who were trying to help Jodie find his calling. One of them is his mother, Sarah.
Sarah saved Jodie from being kidnapped in the prologue of the show and drove off to Mexico. She knew her son Jodie carried some powers, and to make sure nobody exploited him, she left the country in the hope that no one would follow her. Set in the late 1990s, Jodie is now a 12-year-old kid who is on pills to control his seizures. The seizures are nothing, but the dreams Jodie comes across frequently. Sarah always stays by his side and has been a good parent to him so far.

The new Mexican Netflix Original, The Chosen One, is out, and so far, it has been one of the most interesting pieces of fantasy fiction to have come out on the platform this year. This coming-of-age drama is about a bunch of kids who are trying to understand the significance of the divine power that has been bestowed upon one of their closest friends. There are many characters in The Chosen One, and by the looks of it, this engaging drama involving kids might get a second season.
Jodie, Tuka, Magda, Hipotila, and Wagner have been friends for a while. The kids are an integral part of each other. They seem too inseparable, and it showcases the bond they share. Jodie looks American but has lived most of his life in Mexico. Just like any other children their age, they prefer to have a sense of adventure and want to discover many new things.

So, without wasting any other moment, let’s explore the detailed recap of The Chosen One Season 1.

Comic book adaptations have been the theme of this decade and the last one. As one series concludes, filmmakers are jumping at the chance to tell us stories from another set of comic books or graphic novels that promise to provide something different. In this age of exhaustion caused by back-to-back superhero movies and television shows being adapted for the screen, only a few stood out for the right reasons. The Amazon original The Boys is probably one of the only television shows in the superhero genre that is a quality adaptation of its source material. Netflix brings you something similar to our screens. The Chosen One is a Mexican fantasy fiction drama that has been adapted from American Jesus. The comic book series, created by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, is originally set in America, but the makers of the Netflix series set the story in a rural town in Mexico.

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

The one-off program has scored an Emmy nomination Outstanding Animated Program, where it will compete against Bob’s Burgers, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, Rick And Morty and The Simpsons.

NBA legend LeBron James’ coming-of-age story was so instrumental to his success, he co-wrote a book about it. Director Chris Robinson now spins the tale into a biopic, Shooting Stars, exploring how James went from a soft-spoken kid with big dreams to a high-school basketball phenom on Sports Illustrated’s cover (headline: “The Chosen One”). (Credit: Oluwaseye Olusa/Universal Pictures) Through the whirlwind, four Akron, Ohio, friends and teammates stand by James. They dub themselves the Fab Five, and while the African American teens feel like fish out of water at a mostly white Catholic school, the unified, determined team of dunkers clutches three state titles. Cast as LeBron, five-star prospect Marquis “Mookie” Cook, 18, had no acting chops but had played on a travel team with James’ son Bronny and glimpsed the pro player in unguarded moments. “We’re all humans,” Cook says. “He talks like us, laughs like us.

Exclusive: Nigeria soccer legend Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is getting animated.
A reimagining of Okocha’s childhood in Nigeria will be the basis of African streamer Showmax’s first animated series, Jay Jay: The Chosen One.
The virtuoso midfielder Okocha played for the Nigerian national team between 1993 and 2006 and let the country to Olympics soccer glory at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
His show will run to 13 episodes and follow an 11-year-old Augustine who dreams of representing his school at a prestigious football tournament with a team made up of his rag-tag group of friends. Along with his passion for soccer, he loves the animal kingdom, which bestows superpowers on him in return for his fight against illegal poaching.
The series is voiced by a Nigerian cast, led by Prince Unigwe playing Jay Jay. Also cast are veteran actor Chinedu Ikedieze, Samuel Ajibola (The Johnsons); pro-footballer turned actor Eric Obinna, Tinsel actress Mena Sodje, Lexan Peters and Pamilerin Ayodeji (The Father).
It’s already been quite the week for animated soccer series, with Deadline revealing yesterday Argentinian legend and 2022 World Cup winner Lionel Messi is getting the toon treatment at Sony Music Entertainment.
Besides Okocha’s exploits for Nigeria, playing in three World Cups and gaining 73 caps, he had successful spells for Fenerbahce in Turkey, Psg in France and Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League. He also played in Germany and Qatar and retired back in the UK in 2008 after playing for Hull City. He is considered one of the most skilful attacking midfielders of all-time and is considered by many as Nigeria’s greatest ever player.
“I’m honoured to have an animated series that reimagines my childhood,” he said. “Jay Jay: The Chosen One is going to bring back good childhood memories as well as inspire young children who have dreams to be football players. I’m excited about the show and grateful to Showmax and the production team who worked hard to bring it to life.”
Nihilent Limited is producing Jay Jay The Chosen One in partnership with the production studio 5th Dimension as well as animation studio I-Realities.
For Showmax, the series is a first animated effort. The streamer said the show would “give Nigerian children of all ages the opportunity to see themselves represented in animated form which is positive, humorous and educational” and “enchant and motivate kids across our continent through fantasy adventures as well as the power of sport.”
“Not only is Jay Jay: The Chosen One another locally inspired Showmax Original, it marks the beginning of our adventures in animation,” said Yolisa Phahle, CEO of Showmax and Connected Video at MultiChoice. “This is a show we believe will find audiences globally and shines the spotlight on yet another world-class African achiever that we hope will be enjoyed by kids and the entire family.”
Lc Singh, Nihilent Limited’s director and Executive Vice Chairman, said, “I always knew that creating a sports-based animation series for kids would be challenging and rewarding at the same time. The amount of work that goes into every single frame is immense, but seeing the final product come to life makes it all worth it.”
The news comes a week after Showmax owns MultiChoice teamed with Sky and NBCUniversal to launch a new Showmax-branded group. The service will be relaunched at a later date, powered by NBCU’s Peacock streaming technology and combining MultiChoice’s investment in local productions with international content licensed from NBCU and Sky, as well as third party content from HBO, Warner Bros International, Sony and others, and include live English Premier League football.

Numerous films are currently in development based on the works of "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman" comics author Mark Millar. Today, one of them has made some progress with "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" screenwriting cousins Brian and Mark Gunn (who are also relatives of James Gunn) coming onboard to pen the script for a film version of Millar's "Jupiter's Legacy".
Millar co-created the miniseries with Frank Quitely in 2013 with the story following the offspring of superheroes, a group of kids who haven't fully lived up to their families' hopes and dreams for them. Instead of fighting crime, they're more interested in partying and endorsement deals.
The film questions how much superheroes are responsible for protecting the world and how much power they should have. It joins the likes of other Millar works like "Chrononauts," "Starlight," "American Jesus," "Super Crooks" and "Empress" which all have film adaptations in early planning stages.

Comic writer Mark Millar has got another comic book that is going to get the big screen treatment. According to THR, he has teamed up with producers Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum to bring his latest comic, Empress, to the big screen.
The story centers on “the wife of a galactic dictator (a la Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon) who makes the decision to leave her evil husband and take her three kids with her. With the aid of a bodyguard, she escapes with her brood — Aine, her 15-year-old daughter who wants to be with her father; Adam, her gentle soul of a 10-year-old son who she knows would not survive the trials ahead to be an elite ruler; and Puck, her 18-month-old — to her home world. But the dictator husband, with armies at his disposal, isn’t going to let her go without a fight.”

Comic visionary Mark Millar has had a busy cinematic week. Hot off the news that two of his comics, American Jesus and Supercrooks, will be adapted into feature films, the comic book uber-creator is about to launch another film adaption.
His grand-scale cosmic adventure, Empress, is on its way to the big screen, with the help of producer Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent) and Jeff Kirschenbaum (xXx: The Return of Xander). F. Scott Frazier, who also wrote xXx: The Return of Xander, will script the upcoming picture.
“Nobody creates universes that translate into big movie ideas better than Millar,” said Kirschenbaum. “With Empress he’s raised the bar yet again. Part Star Wars, part Guardians of the Galaxy and part something wholly fresh that only the amazing brain of Millar could spawn.”

Mark Millar's followers on Twitter already know that the comic book writer has been spending time on the "Kick-Ass 2" set in London recently. Millar's visit is over, it seems, and he's written a lengthy blog post detailing some of his experiences on set. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit goes beyond "Kick-Ass 2," however, as Millar revealed that he has three Millarworld projects gearing up to shoot in early 2013.
"I'm helping prep three other Millarworld movies at the moment (two you should hear about in next week or two) for late Spring shoots and so home again and writing," Millar wrote on his website. Those projects could include "Nemesis," "Superior," "American Jesus" and beyond; it's too soon to say now, but from the sound of things, we'll have an official answer on at least two of these movies soon.

Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar is known for talking a big game and not always delivering on his promises. Nemesis, American Jesus, Superior, Secret Service, and Supercrooks haven't exactly panned out the way he intended so far, but Kick-Ass 2 is surprisingly actually going to happen with Jeff Wadlow taking over for Matthew Vaughn in the director's chair. Now that most of the original cast have signed back on for the sequel, other supporting roles are being sought out. Deadline reports that "Scrubs" star Donald Faison is in talks to join the cast, making this his first wide release big screen appearance since Skyline. More below. In Kick-Ass 2, Faison will be playing the "hero" Dr. Gravity, a member of Kick-Ass's newly formed "Justice Forever" group of superheroes as they battle against Christopher Mintz-Plasse's Red Mist villain from the first film. Mark Millar is a busy, busy man, what with projects like "Supercrooks," "The Secret Service" and more to his name. It's not just comics he's busying himself with, either: Millar is very involved in bringing his books to the big screen, having already put "Wanted" and "Kick-Ass" through the adaptation treatment.
One of his next adaptations is "American Jesus," based on the series he first started in 2004. The story follows a young boy living in modern day America who comes to discover that he is actually the second coming of Jesus. Madness ensues. CLiNT Magazine spoke with Millar about the project, and we're pleased to present an exclusive excerpt from that interview as seen in CLiNT #2.1, on sale this week.

Mark, how does it feel to get this project off the ground, under your own production company, no less?...

"Kick-Ass 2" might be coming sooner than we expected, if Mark Millar is to be believed.
The comic book writer took to his Millarworld Productions website to offer some updates on the upcoming "Kick-Ass" sequel. According to him, the next installment of Kick-Ass' superhero saga starts shooting very soon.
"Kick-Ass 2 films this Summer. I expect there will be an announcement of some sort in the next week. Certainly before Kapow next month for sure," Millar wrote on his Millar Hour thread. "Matthew [Vaughn] is co-writing and producing, Kick-Ass being a labour of love for him. He selected the perfect director last year and we’re very, very happy. Trust him… he knows what he’s doing."
Bleeding Cool backs up Millar's claims: according to a report on the site, work has been done on a second "Kick-Ass" film and a new director and writer have been selected.
In addition to the "Kick-Ass" update,...

Mark Millar Claims 'Kick Ass 2' Will Shoot This Summer: 5 Other Things He's Said That Never Happened
Oh, Mark Millar. In an industry where hyperbole and exaggeration are king, Mark Millar is on a whole other level, always eager to talk about himself and his films with whoever is willing to listen, often feeding the machine with lots of excitement about projects that are premature to say the least. His latest bit of news comes courtesy of his own Millar World forums (via Bleeding Cool) where he claims that the much talked-about (at least by him) "Kick-Ass 2" will shoot this summer.
" 'Kick-Ass 2' films this Summer. I expect there will be an announcement of some sort in the next week. Certainly before Kapow next month for sure," he wrote. This week on the new releases shelf at your neighborhood comics shop: Supervillainy goes abroad; Proof that genre-bending still exists; Marc Spector’s last stand; The final days of the Gcpd.
Supercrooks #2–Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (for what I’m certain is not the final time): Mark Millar is a good comic-book writer, no matter what anybody might think about him otherwise. Millar has made no bones about the fact that he uses his comics as springboards into Hollywood and also the fact that he is a very talented writer indeed. This continues to ruffle the feathers of a lot of us purists in the comics community, but again as I’ve said before, a) I don’t have to watch any of his crappy movies, and b) as long as the guy backs up his claims to quality writing, he...

Mark Millar, the source writer of both “Kick-Ass” and “Wanted,” likes to talk. He’s always got something to say about the various projects based on his work, and often the legitimacy and accuracy of said comments can be brought into question. We’re still waiting to hear confirmation of that “Kick-Ass” sequel he assured us was going to happen. But, in fairness, whilst Millar does like to talk that’s probably because he’s got a lot to talk about. There are plans at various stages for adaptations of a number of his comics and graphic novels, including “Nemesis,” “American Jesus,” and “War Heroes,” and now we have some more news on the adaptation of “Supercrooks” -- the comic book of which doesn’t even hit shelves until tomorrow.
The comic is, like “Kick Ass” and “Nemesis,” another riff on the superhero genre, this time examining the reason why...

Although Mark Millar claims that both Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus will be shooting this summer, it's quite possible that the next movie based on one of his comics may actually end up being Supercrooks. The comic, which hits stores this week, revolves around a group of supervillains who get together to pull off a heist, with Millar himself describing it as "a supervillain story done like a Guy Ritchie movie -- a sort of big, over the top heist story done like Lock, Stock or Oceans 11, but with cracking new super-villains and interesting powers." The story will be set in Spain and, not coincidentally, Millar is teaming up with Spanish director Nacho Vigalando (Timecrimes) for the feature film adaptation. While Vigalando has a couple of other projects on his plate before he fully focuses on Supercrooks, in the meantime he collaborated with Millar on a little promo trailer for the comic book.

It's been a while now since we've heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. When the movie first hit theatres back in April of 2010, a sequel seemed like a foregone conclusion; even though the movie only made about $48 million domestically, the international box office doubled that number. That being said, for some reason Kick-Ass 2 feels less likely to happen as more time goes by and Matthew Vaughn becomes occupied with other projects. Well, this week, Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar has finally spoken up, insisting that not only is the sequel still happening but it will also shoot sometime this summer. It sounds promising, but still you have to wonder... why have Lionsgate and Matthew Vaughn been so silent on the matter? Millar spoke to The Daily Record in Scotland on Sunday, and made the following statement about the proposed sequel, Kick-Ass 2: Balls to...
