If Sir Elton John‘s career had only spanned the 1970s, he would still be a music legend, an icon of glam and progressive rock. Fortunately, he forged on, segueing into each new era of rock and branching into film and Broadway with comparable success and his signature aplomb and style. As John celebrates his 76th birthday, we’ve undertaken a nearly impossible task — narrowing a huge catalogue of memorable compositions down to the 25 best.

One of the many fascinating classic rock facts that fell out of the public consciousness is that Ringo Starr’s “Snookeroo” was written by Elton John and his legendary songwriting partner. Ringo revealed what he thought of “Snookeroo” and the prospect of John covering the tune. John recalled what he was thinking when he penned the track. Meanwhile, his songwriting partner said “Snookeroo” reminded him of one of The Beatles’ most famous hits.
Ringo Starr liked ‘Snookeroo’ and wished that Elton John recorded the track
During a 2015 interview with Goldmine, Ringo was asked about “Snooker.” “Yeah, that’s a good one,” he recalled. “That was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.” Together, John and Taupin wrote classic tracks such as “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” and “Candle in the Wind.”

Bill Kenwright, the prolific West End producer behind the hit musicals Blood Brothers, Whistle Down the Wind and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat who would later go on to become an owner and chairman of his boyhood soccer club Everton, has died. He was 78.
In a statement, Everton said Kenwright died peacefully, “surrounded by his family and loved ones.” This month, the Premier League club revealed that Kenwright had recently undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his liver.
“The world of British theatre without Bill Kenwright seems impossible,” said fellow theater impresario Cameron Mackintosh in a statement on X. “In my lifetime, there has never been anyone like Bill. He’s totally irreplaceable, and we will miss him so.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 10, Episode 5 of “The Masked Singer,” “A Celebration of Elton John,” which aired Oct. 18 on Fox.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote the track “Philadelphia Freedom” in 1975 at the behest of tennis icon Billie Jean King (whose team was the Philadelphia Freedoms). So, it was wildly appropriate that King performed the song on Wednesday during “A Celebration of Elton John” on Fox’s “The Masked Singer.”
King performed “Philadelphia Freedom” as the Royal Hen — and the fact that we know she was on the show means that, alas, she was also the next celebrity to be unmasked on “Singer.”
“A true trail blazer, she is famous for championing equal opportunities for all, and has made it her royal mission to be a voice for the voiceless,” a “Masked Singer” voiceover shared in giving the hints to whom the Royal Hen might be.

A Hong Kong superstar, Louis Koo has appeared in everything from thrillers and sci-fi blockbusters to romances and comedies. This year he received the Extraordinary Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival.
The festival showcased three of his recent projects: In Broad Daylight, a drama about abuse in an assisted living facility; The White Storm 3, part of a trilogy of action films about drug cartels; and Vital Sign, a drama about emergency service workers. Koo’s One Cool World produced the first film; he stars in the other two.
As the veteran in a three-man ambulance crew, Koo plays a moodier character in Vital Sign than his fans usually see. A father and widower, Ma Chi-yip is nearing the end of his career, struggling with bureaucracy and his own physical ailments.
“I saw a different side of him, maybe because of the story,” director Cheuk Wan-chi said about Koo’s performance.

The 20-song set included fan favorites, live rarities, and several surprise guest appearances. To open the show, John performed his cover of The Who’s “Pinball Wizard” for the first time since 2009. From there, he treated the massive crowd to renditions of “The Bitch Is Back,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.”
With the accompaniment of Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk and London Community Gospel Choir, John also dusted off Are You Ready for Love for the first time since 2014. Other surprise guests included The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, who joined John for “Tiny Dancer,” and Rina Sawayama, who joined in for a duet of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

Going to an Elton John concert is an experience — fans eagerly play the air piano, parents film the show with their cellphones like feverish teenagers, and attendees wear sequined blazers, studded rhinestone glasses and fuzzy scarves to match the style of the Rocket Man.
All this was captured in Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, which aired live on Disney+ on Nov. 20. The concert took place 47 years after John’s historic 1975 performance at the Los Angeles ballpark that cemented his superstar status.
“The love from the audience, the kindness, the generosity, the loyalty — it’s been like one big party,” John says of the stop on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which wraps July 8 in Stockholm. “It’s like the end of an era, and it’s a happy end to an era.”

“Rocketman” is one of the most iconic songs in Elton John’s discography. However, since John doesn’t write the lyrics to most of his tracks, he didn’t know where lyricist Bernie Taupin found inspiration. Taupin recently revealed the basis behind “Rocketman” in a new interview, and John was completely surprised by this revelation.

Elton John and Britney Spears released their highly anticipated song collaboration, ‘Hold Me Closer’. A joyous dance future-anthem dripping with summer abandon, ‘Hold Me Closer’ sees two of the most iconic artists of all time come together for the first time ever on record.
The seeds of the collaboration were sown in 2014 when the pair first met at the 22nd Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. A subsequent tweet in 2015 from Britney Spears professing her love of Elton’s 1971 classic ‘Tiny Dancer’ sparked the idea for the collaboration with Elton, and the stars finally aligned this summer.
After hearing the first cut of the single earlier this summer, Elton John knew that Britney’s instantly recognizable vocals were the perfect touch to bring the song to life. Reaching out to her directly, Britney immediately said yes, and the result, ‘Hold me Closer’ holds promise to be the song of the summer.

Riding high on a just released hit duet with Elton John, Britney Spears dropped even more new audio today lashing out at her parents and others for the restrictive conservatorship held her captive for over a decade.

The duo has been teasing their collaboration for weeks, with its official title revealed Aug. 19 after its pre-save availability was announced and cover art previewed Aug. 8. The song’s title is based on the first three lines of the chorus in John’s 1971 hit “Tiny Dancer,” which he wrote with longtime creative partner Bernie Taupin for the Madman Across the Water album.
“Hold Me Close” marks one of the first major releases for Spears following her 2016 album Glory and first new music since the end of her 13-year conservatorship.

Just months after being released from a nearly 14-year conservatorship, Britney Spears has made her official return to music — and, boy, are we living. “Hold Me Closer,” a disco-infused, reimagining of some of Elton John’s classics, marks the Princess of Pop’s first new music since her 2016 album, Glory.
“Hold me closer, tiny dancer/Count the headlights on the highway,” sings Spears on the track, which interpolates John’s “The One,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” and “Tiny Dancer” into a club-ready bop. “Lay me down in sheets of...

Within the filmography of perhaps Hong Kong’s most prolific directors, Johnnie To, the year 2011 proved once again his ability to switch between genres and tones effortlessly. The romantic comedy “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, co-directed by Wai Ka-Fai, was followed by “Punished”, a crime thriller in a similar vein like the ones To had directed just a few years prior, and finally, “Life Without Principle”, a crime drama which would take a closer look at the effects of economic destabilization. In an interview with the French press, To states he perceives the people working in finance, most specifically those higher up in the food chain, as even worse than the infamous Chinese triads, abusing their power and exploiting, with no one in sight to end their doings. Even though it was something of a diversion from his other works, “Life Without Principle” would win big at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival,...

“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” helmed by Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To, is both a love story and a love letter to China’s rise. By interweaving China’s economic advancement in a romantic narrative, it becomes an interesting example of a film fashioned for transnational, border-crossing storytelling.

The movie revolves around Cheng Zixin, a financial analyst and the two men keen in pursuing her. One of them is Cheung Shen-ran, the head of an investment bank and the other one is Fang Qihong, whose shoddy appearance and tendency to consume copious amounts of alcohol makes him look like a good-for-nothing deadbeat. Qihong turns out to be an architect, however, who becomes disillusioned and is actually in the middle of an existential crisis when he accidentally meets Zixin by saving her from getting hit by a car. Shen-ran, on the other hand, is the embodiment of the stereotypical Lothario – rich,...

The only thing more surprising than the stunning final performance on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent was what happened next.
Victory Brinker, a precocious young singer, had the judges wrapped around her finger before she even sang a note, thanks to her sassy critique of Simon Cowell’s questionable fashion sense. (“You need some color!”) And then she sang… opera! With a voice far beyond her years, Brinker lulled the judges into a stupor before melting their faces with a powerful finish. The performance was so incredible, it literally summoned a bird.

“America’s Got Talent” season 16 continues on July 6 with the final audition episode showcasing the best (and worst) from the first stage of the competition. In this phase of “AGT,” an act needs at least three of the four judges to give them a “yes” vote to advance to the next round. If two or more judges buzz the act, it is immediately eliminated. Each judge, along with host Terry Crews, has one chance to hit the “golden buzzer” and send an act straight through to the live performances.
Last week, Heidi made her choice for quick-change artist Lea Kyle, the first in that discipline to ever receive the golden buzzer. Lea impressed Heidi and the rest of the judges by showing them aspects of the art that they’d never seen before and for doing it so seamlessly.
In the prior week, Sofia played a dirty trick on Jimmie Herrod...
