Comic Relief 2007 - Funny for Money
jboothmillard30 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I had said quite a few times Comic Relief gets better year by year for charity, that may not have been the case here, while the generous charity money was record-breaking, the comedy was not that funny. There were some highlights, but you just got the feeling that maybe they are finding it tricky to come up with new and hilarious stuff, but it is still worth watching. Hosts were Davina McCall, David Tennant, Jonathan Ross, Claudia Winkleman, Fearne Britton, Alan Carr and Graham Norton. The parts of the show that stuck out were: the performance of "I Just Can't Get Enough" by The Saturdays. Harry Hill's TV Burp with highlights from the last few weeks. The Sarah Jane Adventures starring Elisabeth Sladen, Daniel Anthony, Tommy Knight and guest Ronnie Corbett. Mastermind with John Humpheries, Davina specialist subject Big Brother (scoring 8) vs. David specialist subject Doctor Who (scoring 14). Outnumbered starring Hugh Dennis, Claire Skinner, Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez. Victorian Dragons' Den with Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse doing their impressions of the Dragons (and Evan Davis) in front of the five real Dragons, Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, James Caan, Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden. The performance of "Lean On Me" by Annie Lennox. David Walliams and Matt Lucas in two sketches, with Catherine Tate, and Robbie Williams. The final French & Saunders spoof film, Mamma Mia! starring Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Sienna Miller, Philip Glenister, Alan Carr, a swede, Miranda Hart, Lucas, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc. The celebrity climbers of Mount Kilimanjaro, Gary Barlow, Cheryl Cole, Chris Moyles, Kimberley Walsh, Ronan Keating, Fearne Cotton, Ben Shephard, Denise Van Outen and Alesha Dixon. The performance of "Puncture Repair" by Elbow. Smithy (James Corden) meets the England footballers, David Beckham, Peter Crouch, David James, Ashley Cole, Frank Warren, Shaun Wright-Phillips, John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. The performance of "The Garden" by Take That. Top of the Pops (on BBC2), presented by Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates and Noel Fielding, with "Islands in the Stream" by Vanessa Jenkins (Ruth Jones) and Bryn West (Rob Brydon) featuring The Bee Gee's Robin Gibb and Sir Tom Jones, "No You Girls" by Franz Ferdinand, "Falling Down" by Oasis, the Top 5 Funniest Comic Relief Music Moments Ever, "Up All Night" by Take That, "Get On Your Boots" by U2, an acoustic version of "Broken Strings" by James Morrison, and the official Top 10, ending with a performance of "Right Round" by Flo Rida. Comic Relief Does The Apprentice starring Sir Alan Sugar, Margaret Mountford, Nick Meyer, Jack Dee, Michelle Mone, Patsy Palmer, Gerald Ratner, Fiona Phillips, Jonathan Ross, Carol Vorderman, Gok Wan and Ruby Wax, ending with Alan Carr getting fired. The performance of "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele. The sketch seeing a young man failing to pitch The Office: The Opera to Ricky Gervais, with Stephen Merchant, and trying to escape from pitching to Louis Walsh in the bath. Al Murray The Pub Landlord doing a quick pub quiz, with Jason Gardiner, Phil Daniels and Lemar. The Royle Family, starring Ricky Tomlinson, Sue Johnston, Caroline Aherne, Craig Cash and Ralf Little. Impressionists Jan Ravens, Phil Cornwall and Rory Bremner putting on iconic voices to fool callers. Catherine Tate as Joannie "Nan" Taylor taking a large cheque. The Friday Night Comic Relief News with Carr and Britton. Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller (also doing a sketch alone) meet David Mitchell and Robert Web for some sketches, guest starring Geoffrey Palmer and Ashes to Ashes' Keeley Hawes. The performance of David Bowie's "Heroes" by The Script. A musical drag act with Norton singing. Cowboys Go Naked, archive footage with mock voices, of Lee Van Cleef, Kirk Douglas, Henry Fonda, Ronald Reagan, Barbara Stanwyck and John Wayne. Stand-up comedy from Jason Manford. Katy Brand meets Kate Moss and Sadie Frost, with The It Crowd's Katherine Parkinson. EastEnders' Cliff Parisi, Martin Offiah, Peter Duncan, Tony Tobin and EastEnders' John Partridge from Let's Dance for Comic Relief do The Full Monty. The performance of "Ulysses" by Franz Ferdinand. A highlight from Peter Kay: Raider of the Pop Charts, the making of his popular "Amarillo" music video, and the moment Ronnie Corbett tripped on the treadmill. It also included a comedy clip show of the year's best comedy, hosted by James Corden and Matthew Horne, including clips from Fonejacker, The Kevin Bishop Show = STD Kelly - "Legalize", Fat Tongue - audition, Idiots of Ants - Facebook in real life, Flight Of The Conchords - "It's Business Time", Horne & Corden - fragrance ad, The Peter Serafinowicz Show - Darth Vader in love, Mitchell and Webb - Watch the Football, Will Ferrell - Pearl the Little Landlord, and We Can Be Heroes with Chris Lilley, as well as an appearance by 'Allo 'Allo!'s Arthur Bostrom, and James and Matthew get married. Very good!
