"Paralyzed by his fear of dying, Miles Grissom (Clark Freeman) offers a cash reward to the first person who can show him a ghost, an angel, a demon, or anything to prove the existence of an afterlife. Celebrating it’s tenth anniversary is YellowBrickRoad (2010), a decidedly surreal horror with an experimental approach to it’s dread soaked aesthetic that in co-director Andy Mitton’s words resulted in “either full on death threats or love letters” from audiences. Looking back on the film Im far closer to the latter than the former. This is labor of love filmmaking that takes plenty of risks and showcases considerable talent behind and in front of the camera. It’s well worth the 10th anniversary edition Blu-ray it gets here. YellowBrickRoad follows a present day author and his research team as they try to solve the mystery surrounding the disappearance of an entire small town in the 1940s. It’s a journey that starts at the towns small movie theater...

The isolation and helplessness some people felt during the prime days of Covid lockdown is utilized to good effect in “The Harbinger.” Andy Mitton’s second solo feature (following two co-directed with Jesse Holland) is a spooky tale in which vulnerable individuals find themselves prey to a malevolent spirit that worms into their dreams, dislodging them from grounding reality.

In a perfect symbol of our times, James Bond and Whole Foods will soon have the same owner.
Tech giant Amazon on Wednesday officially announced plans to merge with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the 97-year-old studio that’s home to the 007 franchise, Rocky Balboa and “Thelma and Louise.” The eye-popping $8.45 billion sale is the second-biggest acquisition in Amazon’s history following its $13.4 billion purchase of Whole Foods in 2017.
Does the pending marriage mean future Bond installments will see the suave spy refuel at the Whole Foods hot bar in between deadly missions?.
Still, the mega-merger — intended to help Prime Video compete in the streaming wars — leaves plenty of questions about the state of entertainment. Here, Variety attempts to answer any lingering inquiries:
MGM had produced classics such as “Gone With the Wind” and “Legally Blonde.” Will those films be heading to Amazon Prime Video?
Not all of them. The early MGM library has been heavily picked over,...

Netflix may have disappointed Latinx viewers when it canceled the beloved “One Day at a Time,” but the streamer is hoping the dynamic new series “Gentefied” will help mitigate the pain. The Witch in the Window is an elegantly-made and deeply moving family drama wrapped up in an occasionally terrifying haunted house tale. It’s the type of film which plays really well with a festival crowd, particularly a horror audience who usually expect some blood-spilling and things going bump in the night. But Witch has zero of the former and very little of the latter, yet it succeeds in still being a deeply unnerving experience, whilst also balancing an unexpectedly moving and authentic father/son relationship as its emotional beating heart.
Past collaborators and good buddies Andy Mitton and Alex Draper have created a really impressive and unique genre offering, and we managed to sit down with them over closing night drinks to briefly chat about how they achieved what they did on a minuscule budget and with a measly 12 shooting days.

In the latest installment of his Frightfest 2018 pre-festival preview series, host Stuart Wright talks The Witch in the Window with with the writer/director Andy Mitton.
Andy Mitton, co-writer and co-director of We Go On and Yellowbrickroad, goes solo with a staggeringly effective, character-driven supernatural horror. Stunningly scripted and performed, this gripping paranormal chiller tells the spooky tale of divorced father Simon taking his 12-year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help him property flip an old farmhouse. As they start to fix the place up they soon realise that no matter how deceased Lydia, the previous owner was, it doesn’t look like she ever left the premises. And with every repair they make, her malicious spirit seems to be getting stronger.

I haven't yet seen director/writer/editor/composer Andy Mitton's previous two features, We Go On and Yellowbrickroad, but having watched his new film The Witch in the Window (formerly known as The Vermont House) at Fantasia 2018, I'm going to have to rectify that as soon as possible. The story follows New York City denizen and middle-aged dad Simon (Alex Draper) as he picks up his son Finn (Charlie Tacker) from his estranged wife Beverly (Arija Bareikis). The goal is to fix up a house in the middle of nowhere, Vermont, get Finn away from the Internet and city life, and to bond with some quality father-son time. Problem, is the fixer-upper in the countryside already has a resident of the permanent kind, Lydia. The issue with most haunted house...

"Do you think there's something with the house?" An official trailer has debuted for the supernatural horror thriller The Witch in the Window, the solo feature debut of horror filmmaker Andy Mitton. The film will premiere at the Fantastia Film Festival in Montreal later this summer, and will likely play at other genre festivals this year before it gets a release. Here's the plot for The Witch in the Window: "When Simon brings his twelve year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help flip an old farmhouse, they encounter the malicious spirit of Lydia, a previous owner. And now with every repair they make - she's getting stronger." This stars Alex Draper as Simon and introducing Charlie Tacker as Finn, with Greg Naughton, Arija Bareikis, and Carol Stanzione. This first teaser is quite good, might be worth a watch. Here's the first teaser trailer for Andy Mitton's The Witch in the Window,...

Anthologies are all the rage now. It seems like not that long ago they were incredibly rare. Then there was Trick r’ Treat and V/H/S (and the upcoming V/H/S/2) and The ABCs of Death (which is also getting a sequel). Now cable is getting in on the action. Chiller will debut the original movie Chilling Visions: 5 Senses of Fear on Friday, May 31.
The short films are directed by some promising newcomers including Eric England (Madison County) and Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton (YellowBrickRoad). As per usual for anthologies the quality runs the gamut, but overall the entire endeavor is lacking in imagination. It only really comes to life in the home stretch. One of the finest actresses working in independent film these days has to be Anessa Ramsey, who stole genre fans' hearts a few years back as Mya in the psychological thriller The Signal, which debuted at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.
Since then, she's gone on to co-star in another mind-bending horror flick called YellowBrickRoad that premiered at the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival and also worked on projects outside the genre including The 5th Quarter and the Footloose remake.
Now Ramsey is set to return to the horror world with first-time feature filmmaker Padraig Reynolds' film Rites of Spring, which will hit selected theaters this Friday, July 27th. The heist caper meets creature feature has been described as a 'genre-bending mash-up' akin to From Dusk Till Dawn and for very good reason- just when you think you've settled into one of Reynolds' creepy worlds, he comes at you out of nowhere...

Back in early 2011, horror fan-site juggernaut Bloody Disgusting took a stand for independent and foreign genre lore by partnering with The Collective and AMC Theaters, establishing distribution company Bloody Disgusting Selects. Their purpose? To hand-pick often glanced over horror gems which get lost in the mainstream remake shuffle, and grant those deemed worthy of proper theatrical and Video On Demand releases exposure.
As an avid follower and member of “The Infected” (the site’s online community), Bloody Disgusting Selects seemed like a gleaming beacon of hope in the world of inventive, creative, and one-of-a-kind horror experiences. Selected by site staffers and genre enthusiast super fans sharing a common love for skin crawling madness, I made it my mission not to skip a single feature. Now, with their first ten tales of terror rated and reviewed, I thought I’d touch upon Bloody Disgusting’s foray into film distribution and determine the company’s future.

IFC Midnight - a distributor that is definitely in tune with what genre fans would call "films of interest" - has acquired U.S. rights to director Padraig Reynolds' kidnapping thriller Rites Of Spring, which stars genre faves Aj Bowen (The Signal, House of the Devil, A Horrible Way to Die, Hatchet 2) and Anessa Ramsey (YellowBrickRoad, The Signal). It also features creature design by Aaron Sims (A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, Wrong Turn, The Mist, I Am Legend, Clash of the Titans, The Thing). Color me intrigued (whatever shade that is). No release date has been announced yet. Judging from the trailer, which you can check out after the break, it looks like a killer scarecrow flick, but I could be way off-base.
