When Netflix launched "The Witcher" back in 2019, it was the streamer's attempt to kickoff a big fantasy franchise on the level with "Game of Thrones" or "Lord of the Rings." The move made sense. After all, not only are the "Witcher" video games very popular, but the Andrzej Sapkowski books they're based on offer a unique and different perspective on fantasy than other mainstream titles thanks to their Slavic mythology influence. This means the "Witcher" TV series and its spinoffs have a lot of rich source material to take inspiration from and change as they deem fit (something the main "Witcher" show has done a lot in the past). Netflix's "The Witcher" was also a huge hit, with the first season gifting us a viral hit song in "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher."

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga has sounded off on two hot topics.
Melissa stopped by Watch What Happens Live last night to dish about all things Rhonj and more.
In true Andy Cohen fashion, he couldn’t help but stir the pot with a couple of his questions for Melissa and his other guest, Meghan McCain.
There was certainly no shortage of topics for Andy to bring up with Melissa.
However, one that has been making headlines lately has been Jackie Goldschneider dumping Melissa and Margaret Josephs for Teresa Giudice and Jennifer Aydin.
Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey will see the shift play out, but Melissa has addressed the topic now.
Rhonj’s Melissa Gorga sounds off on Jackie Goldschneider fallout
Andy asked via a fan question where Melissa stands with Jackie following all the Rhonj Season 14 chaos.

While it may feel like The Hunger Games franchise just arrived on Netflix, it will be leaving the streamer at the end of the month. The story of Katniss Everdeen starting a true revolution in the dystopian world and leading it to victory has captivated young adult viewers for more than 10 years now, but it will soon have to find another home.
On May 31, all of the films in The Hunger Games franchise will be removed from Netflix. But that fate awaits more movies than that. Here are 8 other movies you might want to watch before the end of the month, before they're gone from your subscription.

Jackie Goldschneider has slammed her The Real Housewives of New Jersey co-stars, claiming the division has ruined the franchise.
Season 14 of Rhonj just kicked off, but it’s no secret the cast is divided now more than ever.
Cast members are either Team Melissa Gorga or Team Teresa Giudice, which, to be honest, is how it’s been for years.
However, the cast division is worse since Teresa isn’t speaking to Melissa or her husband Joe Gorga.
Jackie was Team Melissa forever, but during filming for Season 14, she changed alliances, reigniting her friendship with Teresa and Jennifer Aydin.
Hot on the heels of Margaret Josephs calling Jackie an “ingrate,” the latter has gotten real about working on the show now amid a split cast.

The recent third season of The Witcher was Henry Cavill's last, as the Man of Steel actor announced his decision to part ways with Netflix's adaptation of the best-selling fantasy novels back in 2022.
Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will take over as Geralt of Rivia from season 4 on, and a new photo from the season 4 set gives us a first look at the updated costume the actor will don for the role.
Though the image did fool us at first, this is not actually Hemsworth himself (although he does look quite a bit like him), but his stunt-double Joel Adrian.
During a recent interview with Collider, co-star Freya Allan said she's looking forward to seeing what Hemsworth brings to the role, but is also concerned about the level of fan backlash he's sure to receive.

Up until 2023, The Witcher was one of the best book-based storylines ever transformed into a live-action series, and one of the biggest reasons behind its tremendous success was Henry Cavill’s effortless performance as the Geralt of Rivia. But then Cavill was replaced, with Liam Hemsworth becoming the new protagonist of the lore — though not without earning much backlash from fans.
The Witcher.
That being said, one of the actors from the saga, Freya Allan, seems to be quite bothered with the hate Hemsworth has been getting ever since he was announced to be the new White Wolf, even though he hasn’t even performed as the character yet. But while she continues to campaign hard for him, the latest leaked set images of the series have garnered further backlash from fans.

The 2000s saw the action genre in a state of flux. The Matrix revolutionized everything at the end of the previous decade, The Bourne Supremacy would make shaky cameras standard practice in 2004, and the MCU would take flight with Iron Man in 2008. At the same time, Michael Bay reached his ultimate form with Bad Boys II, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kill Bill made kung fu classy, and Oldboy changed the way we look at hallways.
Within those changes came a host of greats that didn’t get the same attention. Some of these movies represent the first steps in the development of those who would define the genre, such as Scott Adkins and Gareth Evans. Some find stars at the height of the powers, such as Donny Yen and Michael Jai White. And some are just cool, because that’s really all an action movie needs.

Ryan Gosling’s recently released film, The Fall Guy, has put Taylor Swift’s music in the 2024 movie and people are confused. With the film based on stuntmen and women who risk their lives every day for 2 minutes of action on-screen, a Taylor Swift song seems out of the blue.
But the music supervisor and producer Kelly McCormick (who’s a Swiftie) talked about the song’s importance in the film and how it plays out. Having Gosling as the sacrificial stuntman in the film who loses all, a Swift song from her album Red seems perfect.
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in The Fall Guy (2024).
How Ryan Gosling Cried To Taylor Swift’s Song In The Fall Guy!
Being a story about stuntmen and women, the action sequences are obviously terrific. The promotion of the film had real stuntmen breaking through a glass door while Ryan Gosling walked before them.

The original Spider-Man films could’ve changed the career of one Yellowstone star but he chose to turn down the offer. Tobey Maguire’s Spidey role was reportedly first offered to Wes Bentley, who now plays the despicable Jamie Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama. Bentley revealed that he rejected the offer since the comic book movies were not performing well at the time, especially with the two subpar Batman movies from Joel Schumacher.
Wes Bentley opened up about his Yellowstone role and the role that he missed out on
Before he turned down the Spider-Man role, Bentley became a promising young star with his role as Ricky Fitts in American Beauty. Bentley went on to star in other movies like The Hunger Games, Interstellar, and Mission: Impossible 6.

Thor Star Chris Hemsworth Reveals Whether He And Brother Liam Were Competing For God Of Thunder Role
When Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were cast in Thor, they were largely dismissed as "nobodies." It seems Marvel Studios wanted unknowns, though, as we know of at least a few other names considered for the McU's God of Thunder, including Chris' brother, Liam.
He'd go on to star in The Hunger Games movies, famously dated Miley Cyrus, and is now gearing up to take over from Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the final two seasons of The Witcher.
Chris, now a major movie star with several franchises to his name, has opened up on both his and Liam's attempts to be cast as Thor, revealing that while they both auditioned, they were never going up against each other simultaneously.
Asked if he was worried about Liam landing the role instead of him, the Avengers: Endgame star responded, "No, 'cause I was told I didn't have the part at that point,...

Although there might not be a solar eclipse traversing the country this month, that doesn’t mean it’s not an exciting time. After all, May is when we celebrate our mothers and kick off the official start of summer with Memorial Day. You may find yourself spending more time outdoors, but who among us doesn’t like to occasionally retreat to our couch or bed for a lazy day even when the weather is nice? With that in mind, we have a number of TV shows and movies you’ll want to watch in May when you’re all cozy indoors — before it’s too late.
If you find yourself with a little over nine hours to kill this month and a hankering for rebellion, volunteer as tribute to watch Jennifer Lawrence in all four of the original Hunger Games films. If you prefer your movies more spine-tingling than dystopian,...

How does historic fashion compete with the likes of Zendaya and Jennifer Lopez on the biggest night of the New York calendar? That’s Andrew Bolton’s superpower.
The curator in charge of the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art since 2016, Bolton, 57, excels at producing fashion exhibits that are multilayered and visually arresting, while also answering a question — “Is fashion art?” — with a resounding yes.
Zendaya and Lopez, alongside fellow co-hosts Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Condé Nast chief content officer and Vogue global editorial director Anna Wintour, will join the throngs of Hollywood elite echoing the concept of fashion as art when they gather May 6 for the museum’s annual Met Gala. The night will include a preview of Bolton’s new show, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens May 10. Curated from the 33,000 pieces in the institute’s collection, the 250-piece exhibition explores notions of femininity and fragility,...

French studio Mediawan and Germany’s Leonine have signed a deal to merge their operation, forming one of Europe’s biggest film and TV companies.
The all-stock transaction, announced Sunday, will create a mini-major with companies and operations across 13 countries and annual revenues of more than €1 billion ($1.06 billion). Mediawan took a 25 percent stake in Leonine back in 2020. Both companies are backed by private equity group Kkr. The agreement is conditional on regulatory approval.
Mediawan boss Pierre-Antoine Capton will be CEO of the new, merged group, with Leonine head Fred Kogel leading operations in German-speaking territories. Kogel will also join Mediawan’s executive committee.
Both Mediawan, launched in 2015 by Capton, Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse, and Leonine, which Kogel founded in 2019, have followed similar strategies of tapping private equity funding to buy up independent production and distribution companies in Europe. Among the titles produced by Mediawan-owned labels include Netflix hit Call My Agent,...

Sometimes a movie is so well cast that you honestly cannot picture someone else playing a role. However, some perfect casting decisions very nearly don’t work out.
For instance, imagine Wednesday without Jenna Ortega‘s brilliant and dry sense of humor. Pretty hard, huh? What about the Marvel Cinematic Universe without Chris Evans leading the Avengers? Did you know that he tried to turn the role down?
In fact, many actors have come very close to saying “no thanks” to what have become their most recognizable jobs in Hollywood.
Sometimes, the timing wasn’t working out. Other times certain circumstances made it difficult for an actor to imagine themselves playing the character.
As a result, many stars have ended up turning down offers that they might have come to regret. Others reconsidered, worked things out and agreed to take on what might go down in history as their most iconic roles.

Fourteen of the franchise’s stars have welcomed children, many of them since leaving Panem behind. Do you think you know them all?
Here’s some fun facts about who landed on the list. Only one actor here plays a character who also appears in the new prequel movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (played by a different actor). Several parents here have given birth to children who are also famous.

In “Boy Kills World,” Bill Skarsgård has burning eyes and model cheekbones, sinewy arms popping out of a dirty red athletic vest, and a feral pout that makes him look like Jean-Claude Van Damme crossed with Lou Reed. He plays a deaf-mute avenger, known only as Boy, who kills people in insanely violent ways. Yet through it all, the character retains his innocence. He’s a wounded wild child in a man’s body.
Raised in a mountain hideaway by a martial-arts trainer and resistance fighter called the Shaman (Yayan Ruhian), who may remind you, at first, of the Zen master in “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Boy had his past taken away from him by a vicious totalitarian regime. Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.

Bill Skarsgård goes on a violent murder spree in Moritz Mohr’s superbly gory action thriller. Here’s our Boy Kills World review.
Gore is not for everyone. That goes without saying, but I’m a big fan of bloody spectacle. There’s just something very appealing about limbs getting torn off, heads spinning and blood covering every inch of the screen.
Which is exactly why I loved Boy Kills World, Moritz Mohr’s exceptionally stylish and gory new action thriller. If gore is not your thing, you prefer substance over style, you may want to take this review with a grain of salt.
The film follows Boy, a deaf-mute man played by Bill Skarsgård, who plots revenge against the Van Der Koy family who murdered his own kin via their yearly Hunger Games-style televised event. He can’t speak, but Boy does have a particularly animated inner voice,...

The month of April seemingly sailed by with far too many moderate releases, and the month ends this weekend with more of the same. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino returns with the sexy tennis drama “Challengers,” starring the powerhouse trio of Zendaya (“Euphoria”), Josh O’Connor (“The Crown”) and Mike Faist (“West Side Story”) as superstar tennis players who fall into a competitive love triangle. This is Zendaya’s first movie after “Dune: Part Two,” and it will be a real test for her as a box office star, since sports dramas can be hit or miss. “Challengers” really is riding on her popularity to avoid the pitfalls of the genre.

Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is what happens when you toss The Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, Happy!, and Crank into a blender. While that sounds rad, the slurry of upbeat action and nonsense plot tangles is much more baffling in execution. Mohr’s vision borrows heavily from button-mashy videogames and dystopian graphic novels, blending Cyberpunk futurism with real-world dictatorship commentaries. There’s a message about fascism and rebellion somewhere in Mohr’s madcap martial arts violence, but it’s lost under the piles of enemy corpses. Boy Kills World never knows the movie it wants to be past a killing spree, as the story makes one poor choice after the next, like a genre satire that becomes what it tries to parody.

The Amazon Prime television series Fallout has already proven to be a massive success, but the party is far from over. The streaming giant recently revealed that a second season for the show has been ordered, which means our questions from the first season will hopefully get answers.
Although much can be said about the production of this incredible show, from exceptional props to top-tier cinematography, there is nothing like a good villain. In fact, without that antagonistic edge that drives the greatest heroes in film history, we would be at a great loss. And there is something to be said for an enemy who is not just evil incarnate, but one who makes decisions based on a questionable sense of morality, where the death of innocent lives is an end that justifies the means.
Enter Sarita Choudhury’s character, Lee Moldaver, one of the primary antagonists in the Fallout series.

Jennifer Lawrence had her fair share of feuds in the time of her career, but few have rarely been as high profile as her butting heads with Fashion Police alum Joan Rivers. The X-Men alum was so frustrated by their feud, that her public admission of it made the whole feud a lot uglier.

In 2009, at the request of SkyMovies, Quentin Tarantino named his 20 favorite films released between 1992 and 2009. 1992 was chosen as the starting point because that was the year Tarantino himself became a film director. Quentin cited a Japanese action movie that he felt was blatantly ripped off by The Hunger Games as his favorite project of the past 17 years:
“I’m a big fan of the Japanese movie Battle Royale, which is what Hunger Games was based on. Well, Hunger Games just ripped it off. That would have been awesome to have directed Battle Royale.”
Long before The Hunger Games, director Kinji Fukasaku captured the frenzy of teenagers stranded on an island to survive. Battle Royale is a Japanese film that has become a cult classic over the course of two decades, spawning a wave of works about deadly games.
