It is not easy to be in awe about short films. They can present interesting ideas or speculations, but they are not long enough to prepare one to feel deep emotions. But "Dream of Aces" is the exception. Very powerful, it is a film about love: for the mentor, for the audience and for the art. The story is poignant, the acting from Jansenson playing himself is most touching, and everything in this film is simple, without bells and whistles. Of course, there is the card trick, but that isn't the star. The star is the story. The whole film fells like poetry. Congratulations to film director Emir Kumova.

the roots

It is a film proposing a dialogue with the viewer. A magician , present in a exclusiviste club, telling the story of his first steps in magic area, remembering his mentor figure and the day of his death.
Sure, you can be not comfortable. For a story are present the men in room of show ? Not for trick ? Is it real acceptable a so long introduction ? Is it real realistic ?
Maybe not. But it has no relevence the answer.
A letter of a young woman to her father. And the meeting, in a caffe , with the magician. Another roots of story. And powerful level of high emotion.
The last scenes reminds the reality of mentor.
But, more important, the film reminds to viewer the gallery of relatives, teachers, mates, mentors, models helping/ teaching him.
That makes Dream of Aces more than special.
