Loving it so far
clairedoobie2 April 2022
For goodness sake vintageek this is NOT Victorian era, what are you like?! It's at least 20 years before Victoria got to the throne. Sorry you don't like the non-scary gentle (genteel even) feminism in this. You can't please all the people all the time. I'm sure there are plenty of other TV shows in which Black people, and female main characters do not appear.

I'm loving the characters in this. The queen with her facial expressions, and Lady Danbury in particular, are favourites of mine.

Not bad!

I thought I might be so hung up on the awesomeness of season one and its cast that I would have difficulty transitioning into this new season and new players involved. Boy was a wrong! It's actually a nice pivot from season one's love affair. It's nice to pick up at the start of this season to see what those left behind are doing and also welcome a few new characters as well. Especially two sisters who seem to come with there own storied past.

There's still a nice level of storytelling, suspense building and drama to keep me coming back for more. I am entertained and looking forward to watching the next episode!

I hope you find this review helpful!

Catty and new main character
dbuckshnis27 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While I loved the chemistry of Simon and beauty, the introduction of the new arc of the brother is fabulous- especially with the "Jasmine" character (second hand lion one of favs). Typical opulent Shrondraland production! Love the costumes, set designs, witty writing ... but mostly love Julie Andrews's voice as narrator.

THe 1st episode of season one was Meh as well
Ziggy196528 March 2022
Hopefully it gets better. The 1st episodes in these shows tend to set the scene and go from there.

Who here thinks that the Viscount Bridgerton will marry or get together with the elder Sharma sister?

Looking for love

The dramatic and haughty class is back but with a few noticeable vacancies. The storyline felt like much of the same but with a few new characters and a shift in dynamic. This first episode set up for what should be an exciting new season.

what were they thinking?
hamlet-1611 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The core of the story has just been thrown out.... no Simon or Daphne? What were they thinking? And revealing the identity of Lady Whistledown was a mistake.

The series is still gorgeous to look at ... beautiful people in beautiful clothes in beautiful settings but the whole thing feels flat like yesterday's champagne.

Huge disappointment!
mlyhancock30 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having read the books, I had certain things in my mind about how things should be/how people looked. That was definitely different in the show than in my head, but I could've totally overlooked that (except maybe the last name change, because I felt that was entirely unnecessary) had the characters been ANYTHING like they are in the book. Kate was witty and funny and subtly sarcastic in the book. In the show, she just comes off as mean and bitter. They also changed one of the BEST scenes in the book (the bee sting scene), and made what was funny but also showed a super vulnerable side of Anthony, into a very "meh", moment. There are a lot of issues with this season, and I came away super disappointed, because Kate was my favorite character of all the books, and she just fell completely flat for me here, and a lot of backstory/character development for both Kate and Anthony that made them lovable in the books was missing.

Not a great start
altman-angela26 March 2022
Well, that was pretty bland, boring, and banal. Love the Anthony character but didn't feel invested in his storyline this episode although the actor is remarkably agile in later episodes. Of course, the bright spot in this season is Jonathan Bailey, who is a sexy gay dude who plays a straight man very well. I love to watch him work (Crashing was excellent) and he is totally an asset to this cast. Glad to see that as the series progresses, his work continued to get even better. The Whistledown storyline was meh.

It's just a tad boring so far.....
jeanette-4796329 March 2022
I am struggling to see this season (2) through and I've only watched 3 episodes. All episodes lack energy and excitement and it's just a bit blah blah. Eloise is wonderful but she can't hold the whole season together on her own. Anthony is a bit of a cad turned moron but and the other sons are more interesting characters. Kate is soooo 21st predicable and I struggle to believe that the sisters are sisters (maybe they are not but I haven't watched that far). Costumes and sets are gorgeous but even they aren't captivating me to continue as with season 1 thoroughly enthralled . I'll probably watch the whole series but may do some fast forward. Such a shame.

Disappointing
Lizyeliz25 March 2022
Simone Ashley (Kate) ruined this season for me. Unfortunately she can't act. The way she speaks, her expression, the way she reacts or not in her case, like your looking at a statue, no emotions whatsoever. Casting should do better next time.

Least fave of books probably least fave of seasons
AvidWatcher10125 March 2022
Anthony is completely unlikable. The character of Lady Danbury is dreadfully over-acted. I like episode 1 Kate very much. Dont think i will stick around to see her fall for Anthony. The actor is excellent, it's the character I dislike. I love Eloise and Penelope. The Queen is ridiculous. I love the aesthetic, wardrobes, sets, music, and the rest of the cast, but disliking the main character throws a big wrench into things.

Not as good as season one.
Paulo1735 April 2022
After watching episode one of the first season, I binged watched the rest. After watching the first episode of season 2 I just felt a bit flat. The old characters seemed a bit hammy and the new characters were badly miscast. Simone Ashley especially. She didn't have the spark needed for the part.... If she's the main love interest in this season, viewers will be turning off in droves.

Books are always better
austenpride21 February 2023
I loved the book.... But the show has lost the depth and nuance the book had. Kate in the book is witty, funny, clever, and you love her. That hasn't translated to the screen. They've even changed her last name and age, just why??! I understand sometimes they make changes to make things more dramatic, but that isn't the case here. They've lost most of the word play that created the chemistry between the characters. It's very disappointing.

I would recommend that anyone who hasn't read the book yet, please do! The author makes the characters come to life and you will smile and laugh out loud reading it..... The show just can't compare.

Not that great
jomoolaf26 March 2022
I believe this is set in the 1800's. Why is the ballroom music Madonna' Material Girl. Not the same without Simon and Daphne. Maybe it will get better.

Stand down
rachelnstephens11 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Miss Sharma acts like her sister Edwina doesn't have a mother nor a patroness. It makes zero sense why she's acting as if she's the mother presenting her daughter.

Absolutely goofy and unrealistic episode.

Better than Gilded Age
tom-27403 April 2022
Despite the melodrama, overacting, and predictable story lines, at least this show has a bit of humor. Having just finished Gilded Age, which was terrible - terribly written, terribly cast (a couple exceptions) - Bridgerton is a relief. Thus, a third star on top of the deserved two.
