*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Studiocanal. Director: Paul Tanter. Writers: James Crow, Simon Phillips and Paul Tanter. Cast: Tom Benedict Knight, Simon Phillips, Christina Bellavia and Ewan Ross. Director Paul Tanter (Jack Falls) has reteamed with actor Simon Phillips for another action thriller. Their latest is called He Who Dares. This United Kingdom shot film focuses on the action, while the story comes across as a little simplistic. Still, it is hard to go wrong with a hostage situation, set two hundred feet below ground. Much of the action is caught with Tanter's use of quick cuts and edits, which helps amplify the violent tension onscreen. He Who Dares is a solid action film for those looking for some light entertainment. The film begins with the villain Holt (Phillips). Holt ambushes the daughter of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He hustles Alice (Christina Bellavia) deep below ground,...

Tagline: "You lie, you die." Director Paul Tanter (Jack Falls) has completed production on the feature Shame the Devil. Tanter has dealt mostly with crime thrillers in the past (Essex Boys Retribution), but his latest is set squarely in the horror genre. Shame the Devil stars Simon Phillips (Jack Says), Juliette Bennett, Will de Meo and horror veteran Doug Bradley (Hellraiser). And, this feature has a new trailer, which is hosted below. The story for the film is very Saw-esque as characters must face the truth of their lives. If they lie, then they die. A London detective, James (Phillips), must do his best to end this killer's reign of terror. Shame the Devil will release in the United Kingdom June 23rd, 2014. There's no denying that Revenge lost its way for a bit of season two. But there's also no denying that Revenge found its footing over the last two episodes -- not only was Amanda killed along with a very annoying subplot about Jack's father's past, but her death renewed Emily's focus, while Victoria reminded us all why she's a woman to be feared.

We’re back in that muddy, rainy, remote country lane in Rettendon, Essex again with director Paul Tanter’s (The Hooligan Wars, Jack Falls) new angle on who was responsible for the deaths of Essex drug dealers Tony Tucker, Pat Tate and Craig Rolfe in December 1995 in The Fall of the Essex Boys.
The grizzly crime mystery has dominated Brit gangster folklore, always posing a fresh challenge for whoever brings another version to the big screen. Tanter has found another theory intriguing enough to rouse interest and provide an appealing watch, but it still falls victim to the clichéd Brit crime flick trap that such a genre film simply can’t escape from.
After the death of an ex-copper’s 18-year-old daughter from a bad ecstasy pill supplied by the notorious Essex Boys firm at Raquel’s nightclub in Basildon, Essex, Detective Inspector Stone (Ewan Ross) starts to see the...

Lawless
Written by Nick Cave
Directed by John Hillcoat
USA, 2012
Director John Hillcoat and musician Nick Cave have collaborated numerous times since the late 1980s, from Cave having starred in Ghosts… of the Civil Dead to composing Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. Lawless marks their second collaboration involving Cave as screenwriter, following The Proposition. That outback-set western was a film of strong lyricism and a blistering atmosphere. Like The Proposition, Lawless concerns three brothers with ties to crime and extreme violence. Unlike the 2005 film, Hillcoat’s latest is an unusually flat affair and lacking in any of the director’s usually reliable boldness regarding harsh, brutal content.
Adapted from Matt Bondurant’s novel The Wettest County in the World, Lawless concerns the Bondurant brothers in the Prohibition era, who set up a racket running moonshine out of the Virginia mountains. While their fellow bootleggers pay the...

*here be some spoilers. Director: Dominic Burns. Writer: Paul Chronnell. Cast: Mark Hamill, Craig Conway, Billy Murray, Sebastian Street, Simon Phillips, Julian Glover, Alan Ford, Gemma Atkinson, Rita Ramnani, and Andrew Shim. Chelsea Films is releasing Airborne across the United Kingdom on DVD July 30th. This is a film that puts a dozen passengers on a doomed flight across the Atlantic. One of their passengers is an ancient Chinese spirit that likes to possess the living. The other flight crew and trapped passengers are understandably shook up when the ghost of Chang starts offing characters via gory suicides. The action is almost laughable as the plot of a cursed vase threatens to ground this aircraft for good. And, something strange begins to happen as you watch this film. If you are a United Kingdom film fan, then you might notice that director Dominic Burns has recruited a few familiar faces.

Here’s a rather nice exclusive to start the week as we can announce that Jason Mewes and Roxanne Pallett are to co-lead the forthcoming horror film, Devil’s Tower, currently shooting in Derbyshire.
You’ll know Mewes from his brilliant work in Kevin Smith’s films from the View Askewniverse and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and seeing him take a leading role in a British movie is a very interesting move.
Pallett has been a long-standing star of Emmerdale, and most recently appeared in the BBC’s Waterloo Road, and this should be a great role for her to break through on the big screen.
Starring alongside them will be the Tony Award-winning Frances Ruffelle (Les Misérables), Jessica Jane Clement (The Real Hustle), Peter Barrett (UFO, Jack Falls), Jazz Lintott (UFO, Airborne), and Emma Buckley (How to Stop Being a Loser), in her first principal role.

Zac Efron felt uncomfortable filming his revealing role The Paperboy - and he says that's the way he wanted it.
The High School Musical actor has moved into decidedly grown-up territory with the film by Precious director Lee Daniels, which screened Thursday at the Cannes Film Festival.
It's a swampy slice of Southern gothic set in the 1960s, with Efron as an aspiring writer helping his journalist brother (Matthew McConaughey) investigate a possible miscarriage of justice. Efron's Jack falls for Nicole Kidman's sparky but sultry femme fatale, who is in turn obsessed with a death row inmate (a supremely creepy John Cusack).

Cannes, France — Zac Efron felt uncomfortable filming his revealing role "The Paperboy" – and he says that's the way he wanted it.

Efron spends much of the film in his underpants, but says he didn't mind the scrutiny.

"This should be deep enough for that Brothers & Sisters: Thanksgiving Reunion script they sent me."
After last week's fun but needless flashback episode, Reven8e gets right back into the thick of things, as Emily is hellbent on finding the White-Haired Man, and tragedy brings her and Jack together.
Emily has been tracking the action in Conrad's office, and overhears him tell Daniel that they need to "tie up loose ends," namely getting Jack to adhere to his story about what happened that night at the beach. Daniel tells him not to worry, because he "has a plan" when it comes to dealing with Jack.
Emily (and Nolan, who's also watching) are nervous about what means, especially since Emily is no longer sure how far Daniel is willing to go now that the Evil Grayson DNA has kicked in. She has bigger fish to fry, though, when Conrad is paid...

Over the next few days I am probably going to have a lot of posts like this as we get closer to May 16 and the first day of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival as clips and pictures begin trickling in for the film's playing the fest. To begin I have this first clip from The Paperboy directed by Lee Daniels (Precious) featuring John Cusack and Matthew McConaughey. The film is an adaptation of the Peter Dexter novel and follows Ward James (McConaughey), a Miami Times reporter who returns to his hometown to investigate the murder of a local sheriff who is eventually helped by his younger brother Jack (Zac Efron) as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row. Throughout the process Jack falls for the woman (Nicole Kidman) whom the convict (Cusack) has been romancing through prison correspondence. Millennium Films is expected to release the film...

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Eddie Redmayne (right), Chris O'Dowd, and Adam Deacon are the five contenders for the British Academy of Film and Television Awards' Orange Rising Star Award — now known as the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. The public selects the winner, who will be announced at the BAFTA ceremony on February 12. [You can vote here.] Two of the contenders were directed by Kenneth Branagh in the summer hit Thor: Hemsworth, who had the title role, and Hiddleston, who played Thor's villainous brother, Loki. Hiddleston kept himself busy last year. In addition to Thor, he was featured in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, Steven Spielberg's War Horse, and Terence Davies' The Deep Blue Sea. Hemsworth, for his part, appeared only in Thor last year. However, 2012 has in store The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman, Red Dawn, Rush, and The Cabin in the Woods. Eddie Redmayne stars opposite...

Most Anticipated Films of 2012 #31-40 Looking over the list of the films set to hit theaters in 2012 I feel like a kid in a candy shop. There's so much to choose from, how do I pick just one? Fortunately I didn't have to choose just one, I chose 40, but even that proved to be a tough task as boiling down a year's worth of movies into an arbitrary number of films that I am anticipating is always difficult. Something is always going to be left off. Then again, that just leaves more to be discovered. In previous years I've made lists of 50 anticipated films, last year I broke it out into four different parts and this year I had 44 films listed before I trimmed four off to have a nice even 40. The greatest thing about movies, however, is the fact the films you anticipate the most aren't likely to be...

While it won’t be quite as intense as what Katniss Everdeen will endure to outlast her competitors in Hunger Games, actress Jennifer Lawrence will have to fight to make it to the final list of nominees for BAFTA’s 2012 Orange Rising Star Award. (That said, awards shows would be a lot more interesting if actors and actresses had to battle, Hunger Games-style, to remain nominees, let alone winners.)
But will the odds be ever in Lawrence’s favor? Granted, the 21-year-old is already an Oscar-nominee and snagged the coveted role of the aforementioned Katniss, but the long list for...

I guess like many people of my age Mark Hamill has been an almost mythical figure to me in that he played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the film that virtually every boy I knew of my age wanted to see.
It was the film that saw my 12 year-old self in a queue outside London’s Dominion Theatre two days after opening and then again outside the Odeon Leicester Square in the freezing cold a few days later. I even once sat through three consecutive showings at Ilford Odeon back in the day when nobody came in to clean the cinema or eject loafers like me in between times. Those were heady, dreamy days when movies were just movies with no thought of them being huge commercial juggernauts and back then the significant impact of Star Wars on me was that it acted as a catalyst for adventure and excitement in my pre-teen imagination,...

Bringing together multiple components of genre filmmaking, the British feature Jack Falls found a recipe for success by winning best action film at the 2011 London Independent Film Festival.
It's the final part of a trilogy, each based on a graphic novel written by director Paul Tanter and illustrated by Oscar Alvarado.
More details, plus reaction from the filmmakers and a trailer for Jack Falls, are included below.
Tanter, who attended the festival, said: "I'm thrilled to accept this award from the Liff. The competition within independent film has never been better, and we are honoured to have not only been included amongst those selected, but to have won the award too."
All three films are shot in a Sin City style - using splashes of colour against high-contrast black and white - with comic book undertones that reflect the trilogy's origins.
