If you’ve been paying attention to anything Christopher Nolan says lately, you’ve likely noticed that he’s a bit nervous about the future of movies. And you know what? We can understand why. With lots of social media sites, YouTube, and all those endless streaming options, and the magical ‘pause’ button at home, going to a theater is starting to feel like an ancient ritual.
But here’s the surprise Nolan (and also many of us) didn’t anticipate: almost three decades ago, Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary genius behind My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away, had already confronted this very same phobia. And instead of sounding the alarm, Miyazaki had a pretty laid-back (and actually genius) approach to it.

Tom Hardy's new action movie, Havoc, has one of his co-stars raving about the actor's abilities. According to Luis Guzmán, Hardy is the perfect choice to play the next James Bond in Amazon's new film.
Havoc was released on Netflix on April 25, with Hardy starring as Patrick Walker, a jaded cop on a mission to save a politician's son in the high-octane thriller. During Guzmán's time on set with Hardy, he revealed to Screen Rant how he believes the Venom actor can succeed at anything he puts his mind to. "Tom Hardy can do anything he wants to. That’s how good he is," Guzmán gushed.
He went on to cite Bronson, Hardy's 20008 biographical drama, as proof of the actor's ability to nail any role. "Have you ever seen the movie Bronson? Check that movie out that he did. You want to see something intense? See that … and when you see that movie,...

Homer's epic "The Odyssey," as any seventh grader could tell you, began its life as part of an ancient Greek oral tradition, shared over campfires on long, balmy Athenian nights. The epic wasn't written down until maybe the seventh century Bce, finally codifying a tale that, no doubt, had undergone several hundred changes during its life. "The Odyssey" takes place after the events of the Trojan War. Its hero, Odysseus, had become trapped on a Mediterranean island with a beautiful nymph named Calypso, living with her for eight years. However, Odysseus misses his wife Penelope and eventually sets out on a journey home. Penelope has, in the interim, had to fend off a lot of dumb, freeloading, muscle-bound suitors who assume Odysseus is dead and want to horn in on his home.
The most famous passages from "The Odyssey" are about Odysseus' fantastical encounters with monsters and gods. The...

Rare are such moments in Hollywood when you find an actor practically gushing over a filmmaker’s vision, throwing all caution to the wind. Yet that is exactly what Tom Hardy seems to be doing with Gareth Evans for their latest Netflix thriller, Havoc.
The move is not much different than Leonardo DiCaprio’s daring collab with Quentin Tarantino in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Both actors, who are celebrated for their highly selective and meticulous approach to picking projects, chose to have faith over being in charge, and the results could be, let’s just say, spectacular.
Tom Hardy practically took a leap of faith with Gareth Evans
The Venom star, whose career is essentially a compilation of master classes under the likes of Christopher Nolan and George Miller, is not someone who usually plays his hand blindfolded. But Havoc seems to be different for Tom Hardy. Talking...

While plot details are tightly under wraps, the trailer and other marketing material hint that the director and actor have left no stone unturned in giving fans a thrilling experience. Hardy is well-versed in both big studio films and indies, and he’s no novice to complex storytelling, having collaborated with Nolan on Inception, Dunkirk, and more. He shared his experience of working with Evans, "I think Gareth has, whether he's aware of it or not, or he can take the compliment or not, he does have an absolute laser for a very specific thing,...

Thrillers have got to be one of the best genres in Hollywood. There is something about them that just sticks with you: their ability to mess with your head, keeping you glued to the screen, and the paranoia that creeps up once the movie is done.
It is one of those genres that can have a wide range of categories within it. You will find drama, horror, action, and, at times, even comedy that can be paired well with a thriller. Popular movies like Inception, Prisoners, and Nightcrawler have all made a name for themselves in the world of thrillers. But these are all widely popular movies created by popular directors that have made a bank at the box office.
However, there are several thriller movies out there that are packed with the same energy and tension, and maybe even bigger twists that might have flown under the radar. So,...

Imagine Christian Bale as the tormented Jedi who falls to the dark side, or Leonardo DiCaprio donning the robes of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. According to an old rumor from the early 2000s, both Oscar-winning actors were seriously considered to play young Jedi who would eventually become Darth Vader.
In the early 2000s, the galaxy far, far away nearly had a different Chosen One. Long before Hayden Christensen became the face of Anakin Skywalker, the Batman star Christian Bale was widely rumored to be George Lucas’ top pick for the iconic role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

After pulling the box office out of its slump with “A Minecraft Movie,” Warner Bros. is now taking a roll of the dice with the ambitious, original horror film “Sinners,” whose box office fortunes hinge in good part on how much the cultural legacy of “Black Panther” has permanently rubbed off on its writer-director, Ryan Coogler.
“Sinners” is Coogler’s first original film since his feature debut “Fruitvale Station,” after which he went on to launch the “Rocky” spinoff series “Creed” and then lead Marvel Studios to its first Best Picture nomination with “Black Panther” in 2018. His 2022 sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” earned a less enthusiastic reception from critics and audiences but was still widely praised for how it paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.

Before his ground-breaking masterpieces like Memento, The Dark Knight, and his Oscar-winning epic, Oppenheimer, a 19‑year‑old Christopher Nolan spent his weekends in the late‑1980s shooting an eerie, 8 mm horror short called Tarantella that would not have been out of place in the library of David Lynch’s most unsettling movies. For more than three decades, the five‑minute film was considered lost until it was uploaded to YouTube in 2021 – and very quickly taken down for copyright reasons. Now the film has crept back onto the video sharing site via The Great Cinema’s channel, and fans should really check it out while they can.
For those who were freaked out by the micro-budgeted viral sensation Skinamarink, and don’t like their on-screen nightmares to make a lot of sense in favor of being more experimental, Nolan’s early exploration of how it was possible to do a lot...

Live-action Akira is back? Yup. We can’t believe it either. Can you even believe that it’s now been like two decades or so since Hollywood initially considered creating a live-action adaptation of that old 1988 anime classic, Akira? And ever since 2002, the project has been stuck in a vicious cycle of “It’s actually happening!” and then “Nope, kidding, we’re delaying it again.”.
Now, against all odds (and honestly against many fans’ wishes), it looks like Akira might finally be rising from development hell. Producer Andrew Lazar, the same guy who did American Sniper and that new action movie G20, recently teased that some major updates are on the way.
A quick reminder: Why Akira is a big deal!
Before we take this crazy ride, let’s take a quick recap: Akira is not your typical anime. It’s a full-on sci-fi gem that actually popularized Japanese animation big-time worldwide.

As casting announcements continue to roll in, speculation and excitement has only grown surrounding Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to his critical and box office hit “Oppenheimer,” which won him the Academy Award for best director.
“The Odyssey” is a classic piece of literature by Homer that is divided between 24 different books, preceded by “The Iliad.” It tells the 10-year journey story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates. Telemachus (Odysseus’ son), Penelope (Odysseus’ wife), Athena, Circe, Poseidon and Zeus are all major characters.
Historians and scholars date “The Odyssey” to sometime between 750-650 BC. The first printed Greek version became available in 1488. In the centuries since, it has remained one of the most studied, adapted and parodied stories ever with adaptations including the 1911 silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro, 1954’s...

Unbelievably, it has now been almost a quarter of a century since a live-action adaptation of the 1988 cult smash-hit Akira first entered development hell for a ridiculously long time. While we haven’t heard much about the highly anticipated anime adaptation, that’s all about to change, as Academy Award-nominated producer Andrew Lazar has now teased some promising, and imminent, news.

Why Did Cillian Murphy Skip Science Lessons During Oppenheimer? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Cillian Murphy didn’t need to crack equations or study nuclear physics to become J. Robert Oppenheimer. Instead, he locked in on the man himself – haunted, brilliant, and deeply conflicted. While most actors might’ve dived headfirst into science prep, Murphy refused.
“I’m interested in the man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does to the individual. The mechanics of it, that’s not really for me,” he told The Guardian. He admitted he skipped science lessons altogether, saying, “I don’t have the intellectual capability to understand them.”
For Cillian Murphy, it was all about emotion over education. And that choice made sense, considering who was directing. Oppenheimer marked his sixth collaboration with Christopher Nolan, but he took center stage this time. The film, based on American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. The Dark Knight Rises Billion ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
It’s been over a decade since The Dark Knight Rises swooped into theaters with that gritty, brooding Nolan magic, and yet it’s still out here flexing like a legend. No multiverse. No sky portals. No talking raccoons or blue aliens riding flying dragons. Just Bane breaking backs, Batman rising (literally), and Gotham teetering on the edge of chaos.
Christopher Nolan really went all in with this finale, epic stakes, bombastic score, and that ending that had fans debating for years. And somehow, even in this age of superhero overload, it still holds a title most caped crusaders and cosmic space warriors haven’t touched.
Yup, The Dark Knight Rises may not be part of a sprawling cinematic universe, but it made its mark with pure storytelling grit, a stacked cast, and some unforgettable IMAX-worthy moments. So while the MCU continues...

It is hard to believe that "Batman Begins" will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. That one fact alone immediately evokes the first chord of Hans Zimmer's "Time" from his "Inception" score in your head, as you are taken aback at how stupid fast the years fly by these days. No one can doubt how much impact Christopher Nolan's first entry in his "Batman" trilogy left on the comic book genre as we know it. And while the sequel, "The Dark Knight," was arguably more influential, that film would not exist without the origin story that set it up.
Before Christopher Nolan took over the reins on Gotham City, he was notable among cinephiles for his masterpiece, "Memento." The film's nonlinear storytelling and neo-noir thriller elements gave viewers a glimpse into Nolan's creative mind, giving him his first Academy Award nomination for his original screenplay. What Was Christopher Nolan’s Initial Idea For Inception?(Photo Credit –Facebook/Prime Video)
Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan is renowned for his complex yet nuanced storylines. Nolan has released several blockbusters in theatres, and one of his most acclaimed movies continues to be Inception.
The film, which was released in 2010 and starred Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead, expanded the horizons of cinema in a true sense by presenting the fascinating story of Dom Cobb. However, the maker of the film revealed that he primarily began writing Inception as a mere heist film.
Christopher Nolan told Wired, “The problem was that I started with a heist film structure. At the time, that seemed the best way of getting all the exposition into the beginning of the movie.” The filmmaker soon realized that a heist film is largely unemotional and tends to be “deliberately superficial.”

Christopher Nolan worships James Bond, but his favorite 007 film? It’s one of the worst ever made. Not Skyfall, not Casino Royale, we’re talking full-blown guilty pleasure territory. And probably a good thing Bond producers turned him down.
If this mess inspired him, who knows what kind of cinematic chaos he had in mind for 007?

Christopher Nolan loves On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The rest of the world, not so much. The 1969 Bond flick, starring one-and-done 007 George Lazenby, sits at a mediocre 17th place on IMDb’s Bond rankings — hardly the elite status you’d expect from the favorite film of Hollywood’s biggest Bond fanboy.

As CinemaCon got underway this week in Las Vegas, Cinema United president and CEO Michael O’Leary called on exhibitors and distributors to “come together” to transform the industry. “The world is different today than it was yesterday, and we must not just adapt, but evolve if we want to realize our future potential.”
Some of that, he said in his remarks, includes investment by exhibitors. “We must continue to invest in all aspects of the moviegoing experience, from projection, sound and lighting to concessions, food and beverage, lobby and parking areas. All the pieces matter,” he said.
Underscoring that part of his message, the CinemaCon exhibition space was buzzing this week with new projection and sound developments, including moves in the direction of high dynamic range (Hdr) imagery, which brings a greater range of colors from the brightest whites to the deepest blacks.

Universal Pictures has very big hopes for Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. A studio exec recently spoke about the upcoming film at CinemaCon 2025.
Per Variety, Jim Orr, Universal's distribution chief, spoke very highly of Nolan's Odyssey adaptation, calling it a "visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of." While Orr appeared to be serious with his comments, the audience - made up largely of theater owners - laughed at the overstatement.
None could argue with Orr about The Odyssey's "staggering" all-star cast, which includes Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron, whose roles have yet to be revealed. Filming for the blockbuster epic remains ongoing, and leaked images from the set continue to give hints and clues as to actors' roles.

Tom Hardy Nolan Reunion (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan, talk about a dream team! These two have teamed up for some epic films over the years, including Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk. Hardy’s got that perfect mix of gritty intensity and quiet charm, and Nolan knows how to make him shine in those mind-bending, action-packed roles. But after their last project together, fans have been wondering, will we see them team up again anytime soon?
Well, good news! Hardy is definitely open to working with Nolan again, and he’s all for it if the right project comes along. After all, Nolan’s been pretty busy since Dunkirk, directing Tenet (which didn’t exactly blow minds at the box office) and Oppenheimer (which swept up the Best Picture Oscar). Meanwhile, Hardy’s been doing his thing, starring in Venom: The Last Dance and working...

While there have been several iterations of the iconic Planet of the Apes, nothing has the pop cultural significance of the 1968 original. The sci-fi film did not just conform to the tropes of the genre, but also included political commentary, elements of horror, and an insane twist that still hits hard despite being one of the most recognized images in human history.
The iconic half-buried Statue of Liberty is a huge revelation in the movie and one hell of a way to end it. It reveals something that everyone obviously feared but never dared to think of, as it is too tragic and dark a scenario to think of. So, what exactly does the symbol of the Statue of Liberty mean?

Matt Damon’s formula for picking projects has always left old pal Ben Affleck in awe. As you may know, there is this upcoming Christopher Nolan project that the who’s who in Hollywood are all being gathered for.
Think Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and so on and so forth.
However, the main person to take up the titular role is Matt Damon. See what his bestie Affleck has to say about it.
Ben Affleck Speaks Candidly On Christopher Nolan’s Upcoming Project, ‘Odyssey’
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s career was blown out of the waters when they both starred in the 1997 movie, ‘Good Will Hunting,’ which won an Oscar by the way.
In the light of that initial fame surge, Affleck decided to lean into action blockbusters like ‘Armageddon,’ and even superhero movies like ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Batman’ and generally did big studio productions.

Which was Leonardo DiCaprio’s first big screen movie?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
In 1991, a fresh-faced Leonardo DiCaprio made his feature film debut in Critters 3, a direct-to-video sequel that took “cheesy” to a whole new level. The film followed flesh-eating alien furballs terrorizing an apartment complex, hardly the kind of cinematic milestone most actors dream about.
DiCaprio played Josh, the stepson of a corrupt landlord, caught in the middle of the chaos. But let’s be real: Critters 3 had one true claim to fame. As one critic bluntly put it, “Its claim to fame is that it marked Leonardo DiCaprio’s film debut, but aside from that Trivial Pursuit tidbit, there’s not much to recommend this subpar entry.”
The Critters franchise had some success early on, despite being a clear Gremlins knockoff. The first two films gained a cult following and even managed decent Rotten Tomatoes audience scores.

Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming swords-and-sandals fantasy epic The Odyssey boasts one of the most all-star casts of all time, and we now have a new look at two of the lead actors: Matt Damon and Tom Holland. Anime has become such a global phenomenon and an artistic style of its own that its influence — both in visuals and writing — can be felt in major Hollywood films. What's more, some of the most popular and respected filmmakers and actors in the industry produced these films. From sly nods to massive tributes, these Hollywood films made sure that audiences around the world knew how much they owed to anime's creative spirit.
It should be noted that these films wore their anime influences proudly on their sleeves, unlike the oft-cited Black Swan and Inception. In the latter's case, directors Darren Aronofsky and Christopher Nolan denied any overt or subtle similarities between their films to certain anime. Respectively, the late great Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue and Paprika.

As work continues on Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, we now have a first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home and Dune star Zendaya on set in full costume.
We don't yet know who she will play in this retelling of the epic poem composed by Homer in the 8th Century, but the actor was spotted alongside Matt Damon (who is looking more than a little worse for wear). The Bourne star has been aged up and is rocking a pretty impressive beard, a sign perhaps that this scene is from later in the movie.
While these photos don't exactly help confirm it, rumour has it Zendaya is playing Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare.
In the story, she acts as a divine benefactor and mentor to Odysseus and his family, often appearing in disguise to subtly guide them. Athena is deeply invested in Odysseus's journey home...

Michael Caine writes in his new memoir, “Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My Guide to Life,” that he was actually “terrified” of Heath Ledger on the set of Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” (via NME). Caine played Alfred Pennyworth in Nolan’s Batman trilogy, with Ledger joining the second installment as the Joker.
“The smeared makeup, the weird hair, the strange voice. It was chilling,” Caine writes of his late co-star. “Absolutely floored me the first time I saw him in action – I was terrified.”
Ledger’s performance forced the rest of the cast to “raise our game,” Caine adds. Ledger’s turn as the Joker is regarded as one of the greatest villain performances in movie history. He posthumously won the Oscar for best supporting actor. Ledger died in January 2008 at 28 years old, a few months before the July theatrical release of “The Dark Knight.

We're close to twenty years since Christopher Nolan made one of the best superhero films of all time. The Dark Knight premiered in 2008, and it proved the director's skillset in a genre that doesn't often feature auteurs of his caliber. It also presented a different villain. A wicked and erratic criminal whose lack of reason made him all the more frightening. As it turns out, Heath Ledger's version of the Joker didn't only scare audiences out of their minds, it also left a mark on co-star Michael Caine, who has revealed that he felt truly unnerved by Ledger's iteration of Batman's most unpredictable nemesis.

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film has by no means, a small premise. An adaptation of the classic “The Odyssey,” the film includes a large cast of some of the biggest Hollywood stars. But cast member John Leguizamo says Nolan still manages to make the production feel like an independent film.
“Dude, you know the thing is, okay he’s got a crazy budget, it’s not small, but he runs [it] like an indie film because he’s not doing it by committee, he’s not doing it by what the studio says,” Leguizamo said in a recent interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Hans Zimmer redefined heroism and epic music for a generation. Hence, it is sort of odd to listen to him being apprehensive about working on superhero films. After delivering incredible scores for The Lion King and Gladiator, he ushered in a new era of superhero music that was different from the John Williams and Danny Elfman school of thought.
Despite working with Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight trilogy, Zimmer chose to not work with the MCU. He has instead worked on some of the non-mcu titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Dark Phoenix. The legend of epic scores reportedly never wanted to compose for superheroes but Nolan convinced him.

Being a film composer usually means a life away from the limelight, their important work remaining behind the scenes. And then there’s Hans Zimmer. In recent years he’s become arguably the most front-facing composer we’ve ever had, his ‘Hans Zimmer Live’ tour selling out stadiums all over the world. If you weren’t able to make it to one of those thrilling events, Diamond In The Desert is more than just the next best thing; Zimmer and director Paul Dugdale have turned his stage act into an immersive, toe-tapping, head-bopping experience in its own right, complete with a bounty of funny, inspiring creative insights to boot.
It all starts with the music. Multiple smartly arranged gems from Zimmer’s envious, 40-year-plus catalogue are present and accounted for across the film’s two-hour-and 38-minute run time, including Gladiator, Dune, Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception,...

“I don’t write for directors, I don’t write for producers, and I certainly don’t write for movie studios,” Hans Zimmer says in his new concert film Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert.
So, for whom does the Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer of more than 150 films including Inception, Dune and The Lion King write his iconic music if not the films and host of reputable directors he’s worked with across the past four decades?
“I have this fictitious figure in my head,” Zimmer tells Deadline from his Remote Control Productions studio in Santa Monica. “She’s called Doris. She lives in Bradford in the UK. She’s a single mom with two unruly kids and her hands are red from the cold and working really hard. She does an amazing job to keep these children fed and pay the rent and fight the fight. So,...

If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ll know the name Christopher Nolan. The director is one of the very few modern filmmakers who still gets to bring bold, creative visions to life on a blockbuster scale. The reigning champ of the intellectual box office hit, Nolan has enjoyed a storied career in Hollywood thanks to his consistency in producing pulse-pounding cinema that also has the capacity to make you think. His obsession with the theme of time, invisible special effects, and multi-layered plot structures have dazzled film viewers for decades at this point.
Nolan studied English Literature, believe it or not, at University College London. While at university, he was the president of the Film Society and met his wife and future producing partner, Emma Thomas, on campus. His first feature film was 1998’s “Following,” but his career really took off with the groundbreaking “Memento” (2000). The Guy Pearce...
