In a "readers' questions" column in The Independent (10th October 2011) Terry was asked out of all of his guests on the chat show, "who did you want to throttle the most?"
Citing Prince Philip as one of six, Terry wrote: "Prince Philip is a boring old... He came on and he wanted to talk about carriage driving. He didn't understand why no one was interested. I think it was in that interview that he said he didn't understand why more people didn't play polo."
(The other five guests cited were John Malkovich, Vanessa Redgrave, Anne Bancroft, Stewart Granger and Spike Milligan. Terry stated that Spike was a good friend, but his manic depression made him difficult to deal with - strangely, David Bowie, who he'd talked about wanting to strike during Episode #11.91 (1991), didn't make the shortlist.)

Terry's interview with Prince Philip was written about in multiple tabloids the following day. The Staffordshire Sentinel (10th July 1986) reported on events with: "Terry Wogan was given a testing time by Prince Philip during an interview last night. The Prince repeatedly side-stepped questions, and when the producer prompted with a cue card about the Royal wedding, the Prince drew laughter when he said: "Why don't you hold it up for the audience to look at?" When Wogan wished him "a very happy wedding" he retorted "I'm not getting married.""
