- The seven teams travel from Novosibirsk, Russia to Jaipur, India. As the race heats up, one team faces a Speed Bump the size of an elephant. They all encounter a Road Block made of camel feed, and a Detour that is made more complicated for one team by an impatient taxi driver.—Allister Coots
- Previously: the teams took the Trans-Siberian Railroad and Mike White wondered if Luke was hiding a more sinister side. But it was Victor who turned out to be trouble when he ditched his friends, with a lame "sorry." At the roadblock, Luke ran the undie-race and he and mom Margie won. The flight attendants, Christie and Jodi, came in last, but were spared elimination, though an additional speed bump looms.
Back in Unspellable, Russia at the Siberian Colliseum. Seven teams remain. Margie and Luke leave first, heading for Jaipur, India, The Pink City. Then they have to race by taxi to a remote area to find a sacred tree. Luke decides he's doing the strategizing while his mom does the communicating.
Leaving second, Victor enjoys that the Race is allowing him to do the unexpected. The cheerleaders look forward to ditching their puffy coats as everyone heads to the airport. Mike's dad Mel is worried about running out of steam. Mark and Mike, the stuntmen, leave next.
At the airport, there are flights leaving at 7 and 10 a.m. to Moscow, where they connect to the same flight to New Delhi and then Jaipur.
They all arrive in India at the same time and the race for taxis begins. Mark and Mike nearly lose theirs to Margie and Luke, but reclaim it. Mel and Mike end up with a driver who doesn't know where he's going and then he leaves so they can't get their stuff out of his trunk. When he comes back, they're falling behind but the guy swears he knows where he's going. Mel decides that the race isn't important enough to "dehumanize" someone by yelling at them, so he's going to feel bad about it the rest of the day.
The cheerleaders prove to not share his philosophy. Jodi and Christie are also not happy when they're driver has to stop for gas. They all try to remain calm for the hairy drive, spotting cows and monkeys on the side of the road. There are fires in the street and kids running around naked. They take in the extreme poverty and it starts to affect the racers. Luke cries as they see children eating garbage.
Tammy and Victor find the tree first, where big red telephones await. They dial a number for their next clue. Directions are given in a super thick accent, so they get their cab driver to listen and off they go.
All the other teams are in a row behind them. "Alright guys, were at war," Mark says seeing the caravan. A mad dash for the phones breaks out. Nobody figures out at first that they're supposed to pick up the phone. The two men sitting there don't offer any guidance.
The blondes, delayed by getting gas, still haven't reached the trees as the teams finally figure out to listen to the phones.
Some of the teams don't understand, but decide to just follow others. They think they're heading to a parking place.
The blondes see all the teams leaving as they pull up.
Tammy and Victor reach the road block first. Care for Camel means they have to load and carry enough food and water for each of the camels. Victor starts loading the food into the water bucket until Tammy yells at him to use the basket provided. He spills some on himself. "Tammy, camel food doesnt taste that good," he declares.
Jaime and Cara continue to get irritated with their cab driver for going slow, while Mark and Mike appreciate that theirs is hauling rear.
Victor finishes with the food and starts loading water, running back and forth to fill the trough.
The teams begin arriving. (There is actually a snake charmer playing as a cobra dances-- yikes.)
Jamie doesnt understand what she's supposed to do with the water and reacts by telling a local that he's annoying her.
Margie drags as Luke cheers her on. Mel is also having a rough go of it. Kisha also does not enjoy her close encounter with a camel.
Mike worries as his dad huffs and puffs to lug the heavy water-filled bucket.
The blondes still haven't arrived as Victor finishes and gets their next clue. As a side note: a man gets kicked over by a camel in the background. Tammy also falls. The clue directs them to a puppet store for their next clue.
The blondes arrive as Tammy and Victor hop into their cab. Mike can't handle watching his poor 68-year-old dad struggling. He wishes he'd done the challenge instead of his dad.
Kisha, Margie and Mike start loading food down their shirts (really), not noticing the baskets at all. Mel figures it out, remembering the clue directed them to use a native tool.
Tammy and Victor arrive at the puppet store and hit a Detour. They choose between Movers and Shakers. In Movers they travel to a gate and pick a cycle rickshaw loaded high with barrels, which they then have to pedal 1 ½ miles through traffic. Then they have to search through their containers for a small metal elephant, which they exchange for the next clue. In Shakers, they put on traditional costume and make-up, join a dance group and try to earn 100 rupees in tips, which they exchange for their next clue.
Tammy and Victor dress up and dance. They have a blast. Back with the camels, Mel has made up serious time by using the camel basket provided. Eventually the other teams figure it out.
Mel finishes first, Mike can't believe it. "My dad just smoked the road block," he says.
The cheerleaders are next, followed by Luke and Margie and the sisters. The stuntmen leave next, followed shortly thereafter by the blondes, who are hoping another team will have some bad luck and save them.
Tammy and Victor earn their 100 rupees and go to the next pitstop at Jaigarh Fort.
Mel and Mike arrive at the Detour and pick Shakers, enjoying the locals.
The stuntmen opt for the rickshaw while everybody else goes with dancing. Luke dances even though he can't hear the cacophony of street sounds and music. His mom ends up with lipstick on her teeth.
Christie and Jodi hit their speed bump: they have to go to a temple and decorate the waiting elephant with paint for a festival.
Tammy and Victor arrive at the pit stop where Phil and a dude playing two nose flutes waits for them. They're first. They each win an ocean kayak. Victor's proud that they've recovered from their travesty in Romania.
Mel and Mike finish dancing, followed by the cheerleaders who have lost their taxi.
The blondes really enjoy making up Dumbo and rehit the race. The cheerleaders realize the driver left with their bags. When he comes back 20 minutes later, they scream at him. Margie and Luke leave, followed by Kisha and Jen. The stuntmen start sorting through their barrels and Christie and Jodi start shaking it.
The stuntmen dig through the straw in the barrels furiously, futilely looking for the tiny elephant charm, as the blondes rake in the cash.
Mel and Mike make their way to the fort and come in second. Mel's thrilled he made Mike proud.
The blondes get all the rupees they need as Mark and Mike keep elephant-hunting. Mike finally finds it in the piles of straw and they head for the fort.
Margie & Luke, Kisha & Jen and the cheerleaders all arrive at the fort at roughly the same time. The sisters are 3rd, Margie & Luke are 4th and the cheerleaders are 5th.
In the cab, the blondes hope they're still in it, but have no idea.
A cab pulls up to the fort: It's the stunt men. Mark and Mike are 6th, and still in it. They turn around and see Christie & Jodi making their way up the steps. So close. They're eliminated.
Christie says she did the race for herself, to have an adventure, and Jodi wanted to prove to her daughter that she was strong enough. Jodi calls the experience "priceless."
Next week: Off to Thailand, where an elephant tenderly kneads their backs, they pose with tigers and the sweltering heat makes Margie pass out.
