Netflix has announced a slate of Japanese dating, comedy and reality shows, part of a wider push into Asian unscripted content, which also takes in South Korea and India.
Speaking at a showcase in Seoul, Netflix Japan content manager Dai Ota highlighted the importance of unscripted content in the wider Japan market, accounting for 70% of linear programming in 2022, with sketch comedy, dating and other reality formats among the most popular.
Heading Netflix’s Japan slate are romance-themed reality shows including Is She The Wolf?, a co-production with Japanese broadcaster Abema; a second season of Love Village; and a new hybrid format, Love Like A K-Drama. The latter show, which starts streaming from November 28, pairs up four Japanese actresses and four Korean actors to see if real-life romance can be sparked by a Korean drama-inspired kissing scene.

Mumbai, March 6: Ott shows seem to pushing the envelope in terms of story-lines and plots, and there are a lot of taboo and sensitive topics being dealt with on the platform. With shows such as The Married Women, which is based on a homosexual relationship, and Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives, where Botox and face upliftment procedures are openly discussed, the Indian audience is now exposed to content on topics that have not been dealt with freely on the Indian screens before.
Sahir Raza, who has directed The Married Woman, says that he is glad that Ott is open to topics as the one his show addresses. "I am glad that Ott doesn't have boundaries. People need to understand that there will always be things you don't like, but putting boundaries only creates restrictions for people who are telling the story. I feel that as we evolve, we need...

There’s the sort of wealth that buys designer clothes. Then there’s the sort of wealth that shuts down Rodeo Drive for a private Lunar New Year party, has a nine-piece band and a Gucci claw machine for a 1-year-old’s birthday, and takes a friend to their favorite restaurant — in Paris — as a treat.
These are the socialite activities of Netflix’s “Bling Empire,” part of a wave of Asian and Asian American unscripted fare that has popped up on TV screens in the wake of the 2018 hit film “Crazy Rich Asians.”
“I bet Anna goes to Paris more times in a year than she goes to Silverlake,” quips cast member Kelly Mi Li in the first episode, referring to L.A. socialite Anna Shay, who flies Li to France for her birthday and buys her a friendship ring from high-end jeweler Boucheron.

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, who has often faced the dark side of cyber bullying, is a positive person and does not go into a low because of something that has been said about her, says Bhavna Pandey, who tags herself as a protective mother.
Talking about being a guarded mother to Ananya or letting the actress handle her own things, Bhavna said, "Yes, I am guarded and protective of her as any mother would be about her child and, of course, with her being in the public domain there are a lot of judgements that are passed."
Bhavna said that initially she would get upset reading comments about her daughter.
"In the beginning, I would read every comment and read everything that came her way, and I would get more upset than even her. But now as time has passed, I have got used to all that and I understand.

Netflix series “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives” delivers exactly what it promises: a glossy window into the lives of four wealthy, glamorous women celebrating their enduring friendships on screen. Bravo may have gotten there first with its “Real Housewives” franchise, but the streaming giant’s take is the first of its kind out of India.
The chemistry between the four women — all of whom are married to actors — is palpable. Of the four, Neelam Kothari is arguably the most successful, having enjoyed a long career as a Bollywood leading lady in the 1980s and 1990s.
Some 20 years ago, Kothari called time on her acting career. She is now married to actor Samir Soni (“Student of the Year 2″). “To be back on screen after so many years and, that too, with my best friends, has been an exhilarating experience,” Kothari tells Variety. “We wanted the audience to see us for who...
