The film was partly shot at an active prison, though during production the filmmakers were confined to a non-active lock-up section, an outdoor transport area, and, later, the interior entrance to the facility.
A key section of the film was shot at the family run Verrill Farm in Concord, Massachusetts. Some months after filming a fire engulfed the large farm stand store located on the grounds, destroying it. Thankfully, the Verrill family was able to rebuild and the operation continues.
Although actors playing inmates and Correctional Officers were wearing different uniforms than their real life counterparts there were several brief mix-ups while shooting was taking place in the waiting/entrance area and parking lot with people associated with the facility who casually confused the actors for the roles they were playing. Several of the actors stayed in character during these interactions and their identities went undiscovered.
