Gospel choir Voices of Fire have linked up with Pharrell Williams on their new single “Joy (Unspeakable).” Listen to it below.
Based out of Hampton Roads, Virginia, Voices of Fire is a gospel choir led by Bishop Ezekiel Williams, Pharrell’s uncle. As documented in their eponymous Netflix documentary, the group is intended to be a showcase of some of the world’s most talented gospel singers, with its members curated by a team of leaders in the gospel scene. “Joy (Unspeakable),” of course, showcases this talent, placing the choir’s vibrant, bright harmonies at the center of a Pharrell-produced beat complete with melodic interjections and dashes of his signature 808-driven sound. By the tune’s outro, the track elevates to a euphoric, bouncing celebration of joy, fit for a jamboree.

Photo: 'Voices of Fire'/Netflix I’m going to be entirely upfront with you, as a native of the Bay Area, I know very little about gospel music. In fact, I know very little about daily life in southern American states at all. So, as you can imagine, I was in for quite the culture shock when watching Pharrell Williams’ new show Voices of Fire. The show centers around Pharrell’s uncle, Bishop Ezekiel Williams, in his quest to build the perfect gospel choir. Through the ups and downs of auditions, rehearsals, and the debut concert, Bishop Ezekiel Williams and his team of all-star vocal leaders maintain a message of hope, community, and love through the beautiful songs they feature. Ultimately, the passion behind this choir reflects in the show, making it an inspiring and uplifting watch for everyone. Related article: Why Queen Elizabeth II Is One Of...

Pharrell Williams makes nonstop jams, and his wife since 2013, the super-stylish Helen Lasichanh, seems just as cool. Together, they're one of the cutest and most fashion-forward couples in Hollywood. Though the parents of four kids are intensely private about their relationship, they've occasionally stepped out together. One Night in Miami
Based on true events, Regina King’s directorial debut tells the story of Cassius Clay (soon to take the name Muhammad Ali), Malcolm X, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke’s legendary meet up in Miami following Clay’s heavyweight championship victory. The upcoming Netflix music series Voices of Fire features Pharrell Williams as one of its biggest draws, so exactly how did he get involved with the show? As it turns out, he's not just a celebrity guest, but the main force behind the show even existing. It's pretty personal for him - here's why.
Pharrell both stars in and produces the show, but that's not where his personal connection with it ends. The other main figure in the cast, religious leader and musician Bishop Ezekiel Williams, is actually Pharrell's uncle, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's also set in Pharrell's hometown community of Hampton Roads, Virginia, (in the Virginia Beach area). THR shared Netflix's description of the show as a search for talented musicians to "[build one of the world's most inspiring gospel choirs . . . With the belief that diverse backstories can give their collective voice a greater meaning, the bishop and his team will search for people of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds."
