Sexton Blake and the Demon God was produced as BBC sunday teatime serial. Aimed at a family audience. The serial was produced by Barry Letts.
Blake played by Jeremy Clyde is very much envisaged as a Sherlock Holmes type. Which he was when his stories were published in the 1890s.
Set in the 1930s. The first episode starts off with an Egyptian mummy being stolen from a museum. Sexton Blake is requested to investigate rather than Scotland Yard. Young Tinker (Phil Davis) assists him as long he is not tied up.
Soon they go off to see Hubba Pasha. A middle eastern royalty staying at a top class London hotel. The Pasha too showed an interest in the mummy.
Blake knows his cousin Maremma Bey and has a dim opinion of him.
A good start, it is very much the type of family adventure serial shown in that era. The Pasha is up to no good. Bey has brought a woman into the house and it seems good money was paid to her uncle for her.
