“There is an excitement level about scary movies,” Dominic Monaghan tells Et about his fascination with the genre, and “if you do it right,” he says, “you tend to feel like you are screaming at the TV, trying to get the hero or the heroine to turn around or run away. It is an interactive experience that I enjoy most about it.”
While known for playing Charlie on ABC’s Lostand Merry in The Lord of the Rings film franchise, Monaghan has also starred in a couple of thrillers and horror-comedies, explaining that “the scary-ish movies that I have done up to now, I just based on my response to a good script.”

Almost 25 years after the film was released, The Nightmare Before Christmas is getting a sequel. THR says the sequel will happen in the form of a manga made by longtime Disney collaborator TokyoPop and will be titled The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero's Journey. The sequel will center on Jack Skellington's ghost dog Zero as he gets lost in Christmas Town.
The book is set to be out Spring 2018, and while it's not a Jack Skellington adventure, it is cool that this film is getting more love so long after its release. Are you interested in reading it? ...

Is The Nightmare Before Christmas set at Christmas or Halloween? Director finally settles the debate
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a bona fide animated classic - but debate has raged on for 20 years about one aspect of the film: Is it set at Christmas or Halloween?
The stop-motion movie's director Henry Selick has settled things once and for all, answering the question at the recent Telluride Horror Show film festival.
"Oh boy. It's a Halloween movie," Birth.Movies.Death quoted Selick as saying.
The filmmaker, who directed the film based on an idea by Tim Burton, admitted that many fans have told him they prefer the Christmas Town portion of the film to the Halloween Town parts.
"They love Santa and say he's all-powerful," he added.
So, consider that the final word on the matter!

It's a debate that's raged ever since the flick's debut in 1993: Is "The Nightmare Before Christmas" a Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie? Fans have their own reasoning for picking a particular side, but now, the film's director, Henry Selick, has weighed in with the definitive answer.
In an Q&A session following a "Nightmare" screening at the Telluride Horror Show last weekend, Selick was asked directly by a little girl in the crowd, "Is this a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie?" After a pause, the director revealed that he came down decidedly on Team Halloween.
Birth.Movies.Death. reports:
After the question was asked Selick looked a little surprised, and he said, "Oh boy," likely knowing that whatever answer he gave would be controversial.
"It's a Halloween movie," he said, definitively. He acknowledged that a lot of people liked the Christmas Town stuff waaaaay better than the...

Henry Selick admits that Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is intended to be a Halloween, not a Christmas film...
What's this? We've always worked on the notion that the brilliant The Nightmare Before Christmas, directed by Henry Selick with help from the brain of Tim Burton, was a November movie. That is, because it's a Halloween story set at Christmas, we've always tried to do our annual rewatch somewhere towards the end of November. Call us fence sitters should you so desire.
In a new Q&A with Henry Selick however, he was asked whether he sees it as a Christmas or Halloween film. And he's firmly come down on the side of the latter.
"It's a Halloween movie", he confirmed, accepting that many people prefer Christmas Town to Halloween Town. However, as Bmd reports, he also added that 'this is a movie about Halloween, and the people of Halloween,...

What's this? Yes, it's a new official fashion collection based on the classic animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Hot Topic range includes trousers, T-shirts and hoodies with Jack Skellington adorned all over.
The limited edition range has a wealth of clothes inspired by the Halloween/Christmas movie.
But remember - these clothes aren't an excuse to not make an effort this Halloween!
The original film, which contrary to popular belief was not directed by Tim Burton (although he wrote the story and produced), focuses on Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town.
He stumbles upon Christmas Town and tries to comprehend the alien world.

Watching and marathoning movies on Halloween is like a tradition. They don’t have to be horror movies either. I personally like to watch both horror movies and cherished Halloween movies from my childhood. The films below are the quintessential Halloween movies from your childhood that will make your holiday even better!
The Addams Family (1991)
Con artists plan to fleece the eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long lost Uncle Fester.
This movie did a fantastic job of bringing the television series to film. It was funny, zany, off the walls but at the same time it was endearing and gave us one of the most lovable families ever.

This time of year there's no shortage of tradiontional holiday flicks floating around on TV to help get you in the Christmas Spirit. Watching these films go hand-in-hand with the season and the Cinelinx crew is breaking down some of our favorites and why it simply isn't Christmas until we've watched them!
The holidays are a special time of the year that brings people together. Tasty meals are cooked up, joyful music plays on the radio, and magical films play on TV. It is a time to make memories and enjoy the company of friends and family. Due to all this activity, the holidays can also be a stressful time of year. Sometimes we need a little help to get in the mood and see how endearing the season can be. Sometimes we need a reminder of what makes this time of year special and fun.
That’s where movies come in.

Neil Patrick Harris has no shortage of things to do: He stars in the box office hit Gone Girl, recently finished a 20-week run as the title character in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, just released his first book, and will be hosting this year's Oscars. But one opportunity he missed? Starring on American Horror Story. Long before Twisty the Clown made his debut on this season of the FX show, American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy asked Harris and his husband, David Burtka, to play a couple in the show's first season, Murder House. But the two had...

So here's a top ten devoted to his fellow upright leafy green characters. Trees have often played key roles in dramas, fairytales, and horror alike whether as fantastical homes, formidable characters or mysterious passageways to adventure.

Even though we’re still a while off from the North American release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX (it was recently confirmed for December 2), Square Enix seems eager to show off the spiffy new high-definition coat of paint that the two playable titles within the compilation will sport in their jump to the PlayStation 3.
The collection of clips shows several cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. The Kingdom Hearts II portion focuses on protagonists Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy visiting Christmas Town from The Nightmare Before Christmas, while the Birth by Sleep portion showcases Aqua, one of the game’s three playable characters, protecting a child who may look familiar to fans of the series from enemy drones before Mickey Mouse shows up to aid in battle.
Until this point, Kingdom Hearts II was only available on the PlayStation 2, and Birth by Sleep was a PSP exclusive.

I can’t think of an HD remastered game compilation that’s taken longer to come out since its initial announcement than Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX. The PlayStation 3-exclusive collection of three titles in Square’s popular Disney-themed franchise was originally announced last October, and things have been very quiet in terms of further details since a new trailer was released in December. Now, nearly six months later, we have some new media, as well as a tidbit of information regarding a possible release date.
As previously reported, the compilation will, much like last year’s 1.5 ReMIX, consist of three earlier games in the series, two which are fully playable (Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep), and the third being restricted to a collection of remastered cutscenes (Kingdom Hearts Re:coded). Both of the playable games will be the enhanced Final Mix versions that were previously exclusive to Japan,...

Warning: The following contains possible big time spoilers from the "Doctor Who" Christmas special. If you don't want key moments and plot points spoiled, stop reading now.
If you thought "The Day of the Doctor" was intense, the "Doctor Who" Christmas special might blow your mind. The Sun has revealed what they claim are spoilers for "The Time of the Doctor" and they paint a very bleak picture of the 11th Doctor's (Matt Smith) final episode.
According to The Sun (via MTV), 11 will be seen growing old in the episode, and even lose his leg during a battle with the Weeping Angels. It seems the episode's plot will see him fighting a 300-year long war against the Angels, Daleks, Santorans and Cybermen, all while trying to save a city on the planet Trenzalore called, of course, Christmas Town.

Tim Burton’s seminal stop-motion classic The Nightmare Before Christmas turns 20 years old today, which is surprising since Jack Skellington is looking as slim as ever. That means that the question of when-do-you-watch-it has never been more relevant.
Every season, when I get to geek out about the holiday movies I’ll get to watch again, there are a few that easily come to mind—I know the sassy ladies of Hocus Pocus will grace my screen during Halloween, just as confidently as I know that emo Rudolph and the Rankin-Bass Claymation crew will take up space on my DVR during Christmastime.

He scores Tim Burton's films, wrote The Simpsons theme tune, and met his wife Bridget Fonda on set. But Danny Elfman still yearns for the mosh pit
While Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are widely considered to be joined at the hairdo – an emo-hipster version of Scorsese and De Niro – it's composer Danny Elfman who has been the director's most loyal and enduring collaborator. Think of any of Burton's deranged goth-com fantasies, from Beetlejuice and Batman to Sleepy Hollow and Frankenweenie, and it will be Elfman's barbed and bouncy compositions that spring to mind as readily as man-child misfit heroes or morbid, arachnophile art design.
Elfman, now 60, was the frontman of performance art outfit turned rock band Oingo Boingo when Burton asked him to score his 1985 debut film, the comic road movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Only twice since then has Elfman surrendered the baton on a Tim Burton...

With Christmas upon us, we thought it'd be fitting to list our nine favorite characters from holiday flicks sure to put you and your family in a merry mood. Let's face it, there’s nothing better than sitting together with the gang and getting the heartstrings tugged, and the funny bones tickled, with a glass of eggnog by your side.
On a side note: We know our list is lacking in female characters — and those of color, for that matter. But don't blame us. Blame Hollywood!
