I liked this movie, apparently a lot more than some other reviewers. I thought the actors did a good job. Nazneen Contractor as our heroine Kendra was great. The diversity cheerleaders will doubtless make a big deal out of the fact that she's of Indian descent, but I just liked her performance. She was warm, fun, engaging, and her enthusiasm for a mere piece of jewelry was infectious. It doesn't hurt, of course, that she's beautiful. David Alpay as Michael was good too. He seems to be one of the go-to leading men for Hallmark romances. He played well the handsome, if somewhat rumpled love interest, with an initially prickly exterior that hid a warmer, more sensitive guy underneath. I thought the two of them had decent chemistry together, though their quest to uncover the mystery of the ring seemed more to overshadow the romance developing between them, rather than augment it.
The mystery of the ring was fairly engaging. Sure, we've seen this type of plot before, but it kept you curious through much, if not most of the movie. At one point, it became pretty obvious that the ring had likely been sold to fund Michael's grandparents' dream of a store, At that point, a lot of the dramatic tension was gone, like air escaping from a punctured balloon. The predictable plot development where Kendra's boss turns her feel-good story into a tabloid hit piece on Michael was also a bit overdone. At least they didn't have her actually writing that hit piece, as in some other similar stories. But his overreaction to it was a little over-the-top. Of course, it was a requirement of the rom-com formula, where some pseudo crisis threatens to derail the budding romance, only to be swept away at the end as if nothing had happened.
So, all in all, I found this movie to be enjoyable. I liked the characters, including the supporting characters, and I thought they interacted well with each other. This was a sweet story and is definitely worth a watch.
